aaaahhhh...the american way of life....its incredible how easy it is for u guyz to have weapons and shoot them too....right in ur back yard...im from england...even our POLICE dont have guns........ no no....SERIOUSLY.
@quadbassblaster Unfortunately, most of us can't shoot in our back yards. In my state for example, you have to own at least 20 acres before you can shoot on your own property. Parcels of land that size are kind of hard to come by in much of the country, and can be quite expensive, especially if you want to live there (and get electricity to them). However, out in the Western states, there are places where you can just pull off the side of the road and wring out your guns!
@notreallydaedalus i am a farmers son in minnesota. pastureland is good. i have plenty of land at my disposal however another problem is that the ground here is so flat that when i shoot my 300 win mag i have to make sure it hits a hill or it could go for ever. south dakota is damn perfect for my kind of shooting. acres on end of valleys
What happens in the chamber is a deflagration with gunpowder a low explosive. Now a detonation would be like the tannerite shot in my video on my Channel . The process would be deflagration pushing the bullet and the detonation would be on impact where you see a shockwave from a high explosive. Great vids btw
But they really are not nearly as energetic as a typical explosive decomposition, which is an entirely different reaction. Fuel/oxidizer mixtures can be made to break the sound barrier by increasing confinement so they are forced to reach a higher pressure before the walls burst, whereas decompositions that I consider to be real detonations are hardly effected at all by confinement, and have a predictable rate of detonation that will occur as according to the density of the explosive itself.
There's actually a fair deal of dispute about what a detonation is compared to a deflagration. One point of view is that anything that expands faster than the rate of sound is a detonation, the view you present. The other point of view is that nothing should be considered a detonation unless it is an explosive decomposition of a molecule, not merely an oxidized fuel able to burn quickly enough to break the sound barrier. Some fuel and oxidizer combinations will break the threshold (continued)
@lamestbiokinectic When you fire a round of ammunition, what happens is that the primer detonates, which ignites the powder and launches the projectile. The primer is not the bullet, and so no, the gun would not explode.
@TheModernCrusaderV if it detonates wouldnt the bullet explode the brass shards will just jam/break the chamber?( the primer tingy explodes causing a chain reaction)
anyways thank you and can u answer my last question it will be appreciated
alright dude to be truthful i thought that gun was automatic but i was wrong, but just imagine it as a auotmatic gun like shotting like a mechine gun =o that would be sick =)
That was deflagration in the chamber and combustion on the target. A detonation in the chamber of a firearm isn't going to make your face any prettier, though it might make you smarter.
The Dragons Breath is more of a tracer round, and your incindiary rounds are more of a spotter round. What brand name do you use? I would love to google up a 12guage clip for my own!
This is great. Stumbled on your video when checking out Dragons Breath ammo on Google. Me and my family have always been into guns but as far as I know they all believe the ammo detonates in the barrel just as I did before this video. I've subscribed and wish you goodluck with your channel, it shows real promise.
As I understand it, a bullet does not create an explosion in the chamber. Instead it Deflagrates and the pressure created by this pushes the bullet out from the casing and out the gun's barrel. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though
You are correct. The primer detonates. I get alot of flack about that not being clear enough in this video. it was my first one in this genre so I've drastically changed the way I spell everything out now.
Aperture on the camera? Switch camera to aperture priority then unscrew the lens, disconnecting the drive motor. Then switch over to video and it will meter for you.
@GRAFFIXTIGER Not necessarily... with a tightly choked shotgun firing 00 buck, the pattern can be pretty wide but there's not enough pellet density to cover a smaller target.
If the reaction in your gun were a detonation, the barrel would be ripped apart ;-) Those are both deflagrations... detonation is pressure-moderated and occurs above the speed of sound in the energetic matertial. Deflagration is temperature moderated and occurs below the speed of sound.
You just want enough pressure to be generated in your gun, that's why the propellant is designed to deflagrate. Black Powder for example can't be driven to a detoantion, even if it gives a big boom ;-)
Do you have a cite for the gunpowder detonating? Otherwise it seems like you've fallen into the typical fallacy of "if it goes bang, it's a detonation".
@destinws2 Ha, I just had someone leave a comment on one of my videos who didn't see the text. I wish they didn't hide it by default.
Anyway, tagging the gun firing as a detonation is still a bit misleading. Showing an actual detonation and deflagration of the same material would make a better demo, though perhaps beyond your ability to set up.
I enjoyed the bullet high-speed video, nice work.
@bbrockert Since most rifle/shotgun rounds move at supersonic speeds, one can logically conclude that the explosion that propels the bullet is likewise supersonic. The speed of sound varies depending several factors, but the average speed of sound on a warm day is about 1150fps. Muzzle velocity on a 12 gauge shotgun is 1200-1300 fps.
@BlueRonin44 "Logically" only if you don't understand the speed of sound or how explosives work. A detonation is supersonic in the exploding medium. Whether or not it drives something beyond the speed of sound in air is completely irrelevant.
@bbrockert You're right. I have no idea what I'm talking about. I kept my reply brief because of the youtube character limit on replies. It's clear now that you are only interested trying to sound smart on the internet rather than actually learn something. Please resume stroking your own ego.
Looking forward to the series! Not to geek out too much but the smokeless powder in the cartridge is oxidizing (deflagrating) rather than explosively decomposing (detonating). There is speculation that a light charge in a large chamber can cause the powder to detonate (so called 'light load detonation'), but these can damage the gun.
The primer, on the other hand, is detonating. And so would a half pound of Tannerite, if you should so equip yourselves. (Would LOVE to see that at 100k fps :)

@destinws2 Really? It looked like he was rubbing some kind of reactive paste onto the metal, then heating it to etch intaglio letters underneath. It didn't look like a plain old cutting torch.
@chumgrinder25 The white letters were written with chalk (pause at 0:14). The welder then traced the chalk lines with a MIG welder. The MIG 'gun' (pause at 0:16) is hollow and has a thin welding wire being constantly fed from it. This wire feeds new metal into the welding process and creates a bead of metal just like a tube of white hot toothpaste. This bead is the bright purplish/whitish lines in the 'new' letters. The black on either side is the soot from the flux core of the weld wire.

Awesome! Perhaps you could adopt a fake Russian accent (though you must admit that storming a "drug house" and shooting blow up dolls was pretty neat)...

Nah, the goal is to be educational and wholesome. I do find his stuff wildly entertaining. I just wish he didn't drop the F Bomb so much.

Guess I haven't though about that since I'm not a family man myself, but I can see how that could be problematic for you. You succeed in your goal my friend, I always enjoy when I have a new video from you in my subscriptions list!
