Yes, Obama has given many hope here in the US and all over the world, but that is besides the point. If you give a Peace Prize to someone, they should not be sending anyone to war, but instead looking for only peaceful resolutions. I am not saying either way if the war is good or bad, but only that war is not peace therefor there should be no peace prize. You seem to be forgetting that hope is not the only reason he's gotten this award. Actually being able to get the Russians in serious talks about Nuclear disarmament, being able to get the US in as a world player in international affairs again, actually DOING something about global warming, these are the reasons he received the award. Like I said, he may have done some great things, but if he is still ahead of a military involved in armed combat, that is not peace. Simple as that. Also, when you make the Einstein statement, there is a large difference. Obama is having soldiers actively kill other human beings and put themselves in the position to be killed. Einstein theories may have lead to the Atom Bomb, but he did not create it himself or even discovered those theories to do so. There is a large difference there.

I read that he was given the prize for giving people "the hope of peace". So the award was given to him for some future peace that may or may not happen. When are other categories going to be determined by events that have not happened. Medicine prize is handed out for the future cure for cancer. Physics for the time machine that is built someday. This is just ridiculous. Maybe Obama will do the right thing and give his prize to Mahatma Gandhi who actually did something for peace.

If there is any moodiness and negativity associated with her videos, it is only on the part of some of these posters, who feel compelled to display to the world their total ignorance.
I personally, find her videos to represent viewpoints that I totally agree with. I particularly like her videos in which God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit "tells it like it is". I thought they were absolutely humorous.

Yes, Obama has given many hope here in the US and all over the world, but that is besides the point. If you give a Peace Prize to someone, they should not be sending anyone to war, but instead looking for only peaceful resolutions. I am not saying either way if the war is good or bad, but only that war is not peace therefor there should be no peace prize. Actually being able to get the Russians in serious talks about Nuclear disarmament, being able to get the US in as a world player in international affairs again, actually DOING something about global warming, these are the reasons he received the award. Like I said, he may have done some great things, but if he is still ahead of a military involved in armed combat, that is not peace. Simple as that. Also, when you make the Einstein statement, there is a large difference. Obama is having soldiers actively kill other human beings and put themselves in the position to be killed. Einstein theories may have lead to the Atom Bomb, but he did not create it himself or even discovered those theories to do so. There is a large difference there.

Well, there is, and ther isn't a difference. Yes, Obama is continuing the fight in Afghanistan, but that is a necessary conflict. Granted, it doesn't warrant the Nobel Peace Prize in and of itself. But the point is, he's not being awarded the Prize because of that. It's for his humanitarian efforts thus far, and due to the large factor he's played in unification on a global scale. Like Einstein, he's being awarded for the good he's started, not the necessary evil he must partake in.

A lot of people who are really against peace won that prize, so I doubt it could help. Anyway, Cristina, the one to Obama is a preventive prize, it was hard for him to accept it and it can only be a good thing. I liked that idea, better than Nobel prizes on biotech or medicine that are usually given 20 years later. Obama's talk at the UN was something brand new, he is showing he wants to look different, let's see. A nobel prize will just give him problems in making war. Not bad.

um, what is the problem with reopening a previous health care plan. This country has the most expensive healthcare and it is the less affective. If we don't do something now, it is going to cause a lot of problems in the future. Getting rid of pre-existing condition waiting periods and denials and implementing an electronic health record seems good to me. I do not know why all the opposition. (actually i do know why!).

I can't understand why there's so much indignation over Obama winning the Nobel Peace prize for not being George W. Bush. That's just as good a claim to the prize as Menachem Begin, Yasser Arafat, or Henry Kissinger had. Clearly, this is a comment on a change in the US policy since the departure of Bush. It is a positive thing to have a thinking leader for the largest, most powerful military in the world.
While leaving Aghanistan is something many want to see, it may not be the wisest policy. Obama hasn't declared a strategy yet. Let's not jump to conclusions.

This is an excerpt from the Nobel website. Unfortunately, he does fall under the category. Do I personally believe he deserved it? Maybe in a few years...

I read that he was given the prize for giving people "the hope of peace". So the award was given to him for some future peace that may or may not happen. When are other categories going to be determined by events that have not happened. Medicine prize is handed out for the future cure for cancer. Physics for the time machine that is built someday. This is just ridiculous. Maybe Obama will do the right thing and give his prize to Mahatma Gandhi who actually did something for peace.

Unfortunately, Mahatma Gandhi nominated just before he was assassinated. He was however nominated several times before and for some odd reason did not win. I find that questionable when it comes to who decides these things. He could not receive a posthumous award since that its how it is stipulated in Nobel's will. However, the year Gandhi died, the award was not given to anyone since "there was no suitable living candidate".

Well, in my opinion the main reason the committee made Obama the winner is that this is a critical moment in time, where he has to decide on more troops for Afghanistan and also as an incentive to keep up the good work he is doing for more peace on the planet. Most people are ignorant to the fact that he already did a lot. You cannot change the whole world in a few months, you know and if you act too fast, you might end up like JFK - sad but true - and that wouldn't help anyone.

I think an activist like Muhammad Yunus or Wangari Maathai would have been a better choice, and I'm very uncomfortable with sending more troops to Afghanistan, but if the Taliban and extreme Muslim elements gain power there again, women will be stoned in the streets AS THEY HAVE BEEN IN THE PAST...Considering the horrible situation he inherited, maybe he's doing the best he can.
