I have to make one correction, the rest I agree with. Mohammad was not illiterate. Muslims like to say that as one of their "miracles" that he wrote the Quran. Actually, when Mohammad and his band of merry men made a peace agreement with the Quraysh, he was actually told to sign his name and the name of his father on that contract. He did so with no problem. He also asked for a writing tool on his death bed to write the final verses.
