I am as of now only about 25 miles from the air base and camp lajune, n.c i get buzzed all day long day and night by fighter, hueys, cobra's and that chicken bird ..and well me being a Army vet and was in aviation and been in a tank unit and tradoc and s-1 and the like ..i like it here..smell of victory and not the mention only about 60 miles from the big army base as well and airforce base too..ha..heck man i got it right next to me..get some...
not a "perfectly good aircraft" design is kinda cool with tilt rotor. they smoke like hell when they run up too, cant carry as many marines as a 53, cant lift as much as a 53.... im sure there could be more things done for improvement.
Brilliant design and aircraft in general. But please, correct me if I'm wrong, which I probably am, but must the aircrafts descent rate be kept to a low to keep it from entering a VRS and if so. Doesn't this leave the Osprey as a flying target? Just curious
That is definitely true to an extent. With a low forward airspeed the rate of descent has to be kept low, but with some forward airspeed it can descend fairly quickly. Sorry, I dont have any exact numbers as far as airspeed/descent.
all of you are dumbasses...the v-22 has not been decommissioned. all the pilots that fly this volunteered, trust me i work with them in VMMT-204 the Raptors.
Sweet, I should be there by about Nov. I just have to finish up the helo part of the pipeline in P-cola. Some of these people are jackasses who need to stop watching CNN.
HAHA soooo wrong...Cheney wanted to shit can it, and its not gone, Im training to fly it right now. It has been in Iraq for the last 3 years without incident, so its not quite the 'deaf ' trap that you say it is. All the pilots who are flying it right now love it too.
I'm glad the Marines officially decomissioned the Thunder Chicken (Osprey). when the props would rotate the the forward position, they would often cause uneven air lift causing them to flip or spin out of control killing everyone inside upon inpact. or destroying any cargo inside.
They aren't decommissioned. I'm a USMC pilot in training and we can select this aircraft track out of Primary training. Get your facts straight before you comment. They only went operational about a year and a half ago, why would they decommission a brand new aircraft? Lot of my buddies are pumped to fly the Osprey. Only people who have no idea what their talking about, who just watch that one crash video, trash talk the Osprey. Let it go folks...it's legit and here to stay.
wow. you're an idiot. where the hell are you getting your info from? they worked out great in afghan just like they did in iraq. those were mechanical issues that were worked out a decade ago. and often? happened twice, i believe. definitely very often. jackass.
@USMCfosho If they decommissioned the osprey, why did they use it to transport Barack Obama around in Iraq when he was visiting the troops... in 2007?
I believe its operational debut was when it camre to the aid of the Black Mesa facility in 'Half Life'
Kidding aside though these are awesome machines, the teething problems appear to have been fixed.
For something so radically different it's worked out pretty damn well.
If only us Euro's could build something similar but fat chance we can't even get a transport right - the A-400 disaster project I'm of course refering too which isn't radical or challenging (or shouldn't be) in any way..
It took a long time to get the osprey flying, and it even took lives in some crashes unfortunately. Looks like it's paying off, kind of makes me think a little bit about the pelican in halo for some reason...
Some of us in the USAF are going to be slotted to work on the USAF's version of the Osprey once the Pave Hawk is put out to pastures within the next few years.
I agree. I think if one looks at the pro's and con's of the MV-22 compared to other types of rotory aircraft, the MV-22 can gain speed, distance, and altitude a lot faster than say the CH-46 or the CH-53. I think the MV-22 will do a lot of good for the Corps
I think the name comes from the way it crashes down, I am not joking. They have a controversial history of accidents prior to their approval for deployment. Due to seemingly political connections, the contract was approved despite costs and safety concerns.
I bet there is one guy in the basement of the white house smoking a doob and making up names for shit.

Worst air craft ever glad they got rid of this shit can, it was a deaf trap.
The Bush administration forced this shit can down everyone neck when most of the pilots were scared to def of this thing and it was for a good reason.

Thunder Chickens = USMC VMM-263 Squadron
Osprey = MV-22 (NOT decomissioned)
