I think just criticizing doesn't help. Do you have suggestions on how to improve the electoral system?

@macxxiivv: Sure; look on Switzerland they have some 7 million inhabits, 23 cantons and 7 supreme magistrates; so there is some chance that there are a few among them who have at least a basic political understanding and knowledge and more candidates would mean less focus on personality and more on merits and concepts; so you Americans chose your favourite son-in-law and not the supreme magistrate!
