Fancy that... The Great Messiaen himself, improvising so vividly - sometimes, it doesn't even 'sound like Messiaen', either, with some 'real', 'normal' major chords - without the default +sixth - and the whole improvisation becomes very warmhearted and honest indeed!
Sublime! I never thought I'd hear what a Messiaen improvisation sounded like! Sheer talent! I had no idea what he was saying at the start though. Hopefully my French will be better in a few years! I just love French organ music.
@organ444 Well, I'm not French-speaking, but it must be something like: «and the shepherds in the fields saw the appearance of a host of angels singing "Gloria in excelsis Deo", glory to God in the highest»
I remember when I was working for my Performer's Diploma I had to learn Les Anges from La Nativite. A marvellously impressionistic piece, which I performed after Midnight Mass about 3 months before I took the exam. The congregation thought I was just messing about! I've never attempted to present Messiaen to them since :( Not that my technique would allow me to these days :( He has remained a profound influence on my own improvisation and composition however.
