Miracle Strip @ Pier Park I truly hate to burst everyone's bubble (and there are literally thousands of you wanting the Starliner back), but we have looked into acquiring the Starliner and it is in terrible shape. Several experts including the FL State inspector have said they would not touch it for any amount of money. Their conclusion is that... the coaster is beyond repair. We'll have to look at other options... maybe a "Son of Starliner".
Starliner has been sitting Idle at Cypress Gardens for the same amount of time was sitting idle at old MSAP. It should not have deteriorated that fast. Also, is this the experts you're talking about, or Land South "relaying what the experts have said" about Starliner. I would not believe one word that comes out of Land South's mouth. Also, Triple Hurricane should also be in bad shape if Starliner is, yet Legoland is keeping Triple Hurricane in their plans.
Well, I was just going by what the owners of the new MSAP said. They really wanted to bring it back to panama city beach. I wish I could see the condition of the starliner for myself even though I don't know squat about roller coasters. Keep me updated if you hear anything about the condition and fate of the beloved starliner.
I'm a member of Cypress Gardens Photos MSG board. Starliner will be expensive to move, maybe thats what they meant, or, they were fed a load of garbage by Land South about Starliner's condition. She was fully functional on the last day of CG's ride section being open, Also, wood coasters have sat dormant longer than Starliner , and were still in good enough condition to be reactivated after some restoration work. I hear Leap the Dips was downright pathetic, yet they got it going again.
OMG,. This was my first big roller coaster ride back in the 1970's when it was at Roseland park in upstate NY.. I hope its still at CYpress Gardens! I want to go as I really dont live too far from there.
Starliner will be saved. Someone in Florida will step in again to save this classic. What would be really cool if Lake Winnie buys the coaster. Two classic John Allen coasters in the same park, even though Starliner will no longer be in Florida if that happens.
there is a new miracle strip amusement park opening up in panama city beach next month at Pier Park. The owners of the new MSAP were going to buy it, but the FL inspector said that's impossible to save now and they wouldn't touch it for any amount of money. I guess cypress gardens let the roller coaster rot or get weathered real bad. This has been confirmed on facebook by the owners of the new MSAP. The starliner was the oldest coaster in florida history, but now it's space mountain.
Guess this video is the only way to experience the Starliner now. We have Rob Harper and Brian Philpot to thank for destroying this piece of Florida history. And for probably destroying Cypress Gardens itself. Thanks guys! Enjoy your condos!
I went on the Starliner just after it opened at Cypress Gardens.
Going back to the States in September, but definately will not visit Cypress Gardens this time - by taking away the rides/animals, they've lost 3/4 of their audience, surely?
Rode her at Miracle Strip and at CG. Awesome job restoring her, though she was in great shape at MSAP for a 40 year old woodie. Starliner may look tame, but its one of the best Wooden Coasters in the South. Its wicked fast.
i dont like the starliner at all. i went on it 4 the 1st time & i tried screamin during the 1st drop but i coudnt. it held by breath & i stayed quiet during the whole ride
I wish that they would have kept the dragon tunnel when they moved the Starliner to Cypress Gradens. That was the best part of the ride in Miracle Strip.
That roller caster was my first and I hate to say thats my last!! LOL!! No I will go on other roller casters but that one is BAD!! It looks like its NOTHING!!! BUT ITS BAD!!!!! And I am a KID!! Like I said that was my first roller caster!! Thanks for posting AWSOME vidoe!!
i love that roller coaster its only 16 dollars to get in but u like the hurricane thaz right next to it and the orange one hurts it shakes too much and u keeo hiting your head on the bars
haha....i feel bad 4 u guys that want to ride it so bad...i live like 10 minutes away from cypress gardens....ride it every weekend since its been out....its pretty fun....the ups and downs jerk you out of your seat alot, fun ride and you should check it out
Rode this today at Cypress Gardens, great little out and back woodie, gives some good airtime aswell and pretty quick for its age. Great move by Cypress Gardens to keep this coaster alive. Nice video also.
Thanks for the vide! Hope this helps the park as well as lend a hand in the park's growth. -Preston (co-founder of "Coasting For Kids" Cypress Gardens May 21st 2006)
Fantastic - they've rebuilt it even wonkier and warped than the original was, the profile is even less precise. Modern coasters are great (Balder at Liseberg is one of my favourites, probably well over 100 rides on it now) but old woodies are a gem of an experience that should be preserved where possible. It may physically be new, but Starliner looks 'older' in style than it ever did at Miracle Strip. I must get over to ride it next year...
Omg! My dad and my sister got on that but they hurt their backs on it

Guess Starliner wasn't saved... just saw it for sale on a used amusement park ride website, unless its a different coaster.

Its the same, however as long as its still standing, there's hope.
