Ercoupe crosswind gear makes it easy. Transitioning to another plane could be an accident waiting to happen. Thought that second Bonanza pilot was going down for sure. The 180 pilot was no better and he should know what he is doing. Looks like you and the T-34 won the landing competition! Great video!
It reminds me of my failed attempt at Ione last fall. I got over the numbers and went up on my side. I did an go around and tried again. Same result. I went home. Just tooooo gusty. I went back a month later and it was dead calm. Finally got Ione in my log book. :)
Great video of an Ercoupe crosswind landing. I have landed my 1958 coupe in cross winds that kept pipers and cessnas on the ground. Its a blast of a plane to fly, taken it from NJ to Oshkosh. Its also the only plane referenced several times in the book Stick and Rudder. Keeping mine forvever.
The 'couper did a very good job--wings level, crabbed, and floated it onto terra firma. Physics dictate, that at touch down, it straighten itself and continue in the same direction.
I have the distinct impression that several of the people commenting were unaware that the standard upwind wing low & cross control technique used in most GA aircraft is inappropriate in an Ercoupe. Heck, with no rudder pedals and the rudders actually interconnected directly to the ailerons; it's impossible to cross control !
i thought it was the experimental AIRCRAFT association, not the experimental PILOT association. those were some horribly dangerous crosswind landings. only the one yellow aircraft (i think was it a really old beech WWII training aircraft?) did a good landing, as you pointed out with the title "crosswind landing 101." watching everyone else land made me think the camera man might be choped up meat any second.
Oops, never mind, this one WAS the 2006 event. I was thinking about going to it but didn't go. My video that you replied to was filmed during the Veterans Day Celebration at Flabob, maybe you were there too?
Cool, more videos of Flabob. The last EAA sport pilot event was just last saturday, this one says 2005. Weird, it was windy during this year's event too.
That weekend was wonderful for flying in the LA area, but the wind was pretty scary in some places! Some of those LSA craft look funny but I bet they're a hoot to fly. Nice video.

Both Bonanzas and the taildragger Cessna had pucker-factor landings. My hat's off to you and that T-34 pilot for 2 great landings.

From the owner o the Ercoupe:
My Ercoupe (N3968H) has no rudder pedals.
Nope, the landing gear does NOT caster.

Just noticed you said "departing runway 7, flabob"
:D
Oh well, we make mistakes..
Your video is being talked about over there, one of the flabobians told me to check out this video. :)

And those were not the worse landings. I had some bad video where I was trying to keep one eye on the plane in case I needed to run.

Awesome video, Frank! That Aercoupe looked like he was crabbing at about 45 degrees to the runway. Incredible.

Yet he had the best landing of the day. Go figure?

Great video! Don't know what's better, CCR or the Ercoupe? What was the wind?
