This is the movie where he teaches the possie to shoot by having practice targets of guns in hands right? I haven't seen it in years! Thought it was called Cowboy's Rhapsody.
"Prairie fairy", what a great writer ! Back in the 80s before same-sex high schoolers began making out on campus. Change? Yeah, but the deteriorating kind.
Western spoofs don't get any better than this! I have never met anyone who has heard of this movie and yet when they watch my DVD of Rustler's Rhapsody they all love it. For a one word line you can't beat Andy Griffith's henchman's response to "Throw another faggot on the fire". It's too bad so many people are missing out on this brilliant comedy.
BTW - whose idea was it to make Andy Griffith's character a closeted gay man? For the record, I believe that if they'd done the same with "Matlock", it would have made that show 100% better. This movie's full of subtle stuff that you miss the first time you see it, and each time you see it you see things you missed before. I have this on DVD, and I actually saw this in a theatre when it was originally released. I went back the following week with my dad, and he laughed his ass off.
Major "Hell YEAH!" moment at 0:49 - the stunning Marilu Henner. The only better shot of her that I've seen is her nude scene in "The Man Who Loved Women" (her nude scene is the only reason to see that piece of garbage). This underappreciated classic was written by Hugh Wilson, the man who created "WKRP In Cincinnati" and "Frank's Place". Gotta love G.W. Bailey as the comic sidekick in this movie - "That was the town doctor . . . Nawww, just some real estate guy!" Hilarious.
I still have a copies of this on BETA and VHS!!! i grew up to this stuff!! and none of my friends have ever heard of it.... GOOD NIGHT BOYS!!! SEE YA TOMMMOOORRROOOOWWW
This was even a better spoof than Blazing Saddles. My favorite line,"The folks in the Spaghetti Westerns had better music and got to wear those nifty trenchcoats when it was 110 in the shade."
Yes this movie ROCKS. I wish someone would put the entire film on youtube. I saw it in the 80's, watched it a few times on HBO and haven't seen it on TV since. A shame hardly anyone has seen it.
This movie is wonderful... Music is great too. I can't find a copy of Lasso You The Moon even on I-tunes...Would love the guitar chords too...Any help out there....S
I actually used to have a copy of this movie . It is in my opinion one of the funniest movies ever made , but seems to have faded into obscurity . I think this movie either came out the same year as Platoon or the year before and Tom probably wanted it to die a quiet death . Regardless it will always be one of my favorites .
You're right—it is one of the funniest! I've seen a lot of Tom Berenger's movies, and two of my favorites are Rustler's Rhapsody and Last of the Dogmen. (Of course Platoon is excellent too, but depressing.)

How adorable is that? Tom Berenger!!!
He is so talented, gifted and a real gentleman to stay under the radar. Never could figure out Jack in CrASH.
Oh well, hello WaterBOYS.

Note to edwright105: he is the town "Root Junkie"
Note to everyone else: yes, this is one of the great underrated movies of the 80's.

Man, that third bad dude sounds like Nick Nolte, but obviously it's not People Magazines Sexiest Man of the year 1992.
Berenger AND Nolte, now that would've been something!

You might look under " I'll Get By " , which is the actual title of the song by Gary Morris .
snattler 3 years ago
My mistake . You were right about the title . But I hope it helps about the artist . Also there is one cover of the song here on youtube .
