Everyone stop bitchingggg...DT SX and there rest of the bands that you are all comparing are all amazing in there own right and way,,extremely talented musicians that have been busting there asses of to make amazing music for everyone, why cant people just appreciate music more instead of making autopsy on the fuckign artists. for fucks sakes....
Althought Symphony X might overdo these songs a bit. They ARE still prog metal, but unlike dream theater, they actually have melody. (I still love DT)
the melody thing that u mention is because Symphony X call themselves "Progresive Power", Dream Theater just "Progresive". And, yes, they both are gods.
Dream Theater has amazing melodies, even better than Symphony X, don't get me wrong i love both bands. If you say DT has no melody, then it's obvious to me you havn't heard much of they're music
i like these guys alot but i feel like they are trying to hard to be prog metal. also i think they have a hard time keeping it soft. they try to achieve that multiple times throught this song and they never truly do it. very good song though. 4.5/5
like they are trying to hard to be prog? if any band could be classified that it'd be dream theater with their 42 minute long song. dream theater is my favourite band, but everyone knows it's true.
@BloodReverence yea. dream theater is my fav band too. they actually have a 56 minute long song too. but i feel like these guys are trying too hard to be like dream theater but more metal.
They don't have a 56 minute long song unless it's live. I have all their music and none of their recorded songs are past the 42 minute long song epic of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.
Either way, if they were trying to be Dream Theater, they'd have all their songs like this. They have their own style, you should try listening to their other songs.
Note to poster- you have broken the song perfectly into three parts as three movements- well done
This one is Best/favorite part IMHO... I remember a time when there were people into speed, thrash, melodic and other forms of metal. People werent into grind because of the voacals- symphony x was one of those that bridged the gap.
1:20 to 3:30 - my favorite part and you can sense some of the grind/death metal riffing within that segment.
how about enjoy this Godly music sober you fools...Drugs just make you appreciate the song less because you cant even interpret the song properly unless you play an instrument or sing...this song is a masterpeice.
i agree with you...but alot of this kind of music can trigger amazing things with your recording and playing sometimes when ur high...lol..
symphony x dream theater opeth and between the buried and me are all some bands that do this...and of course tool and NIN....but i like ur take on this
try listing to this and dream theaters a change of seasons on shrooms it makes it more epic then it already is. i know that seems impossible but just try it =D
Its probably the recording, the way this sounds makes it sound like it was ripped a few times then uploaded a few times then he downloaded it but if you heard a few songs from the album The Divine Wings of Tragedy then you wouldn't say that.
Everything was written by Romeo but 2 parts. Journey to Ithaca was cowritten by Allen. The Fate of the Suitors / Champion of Ithaca was cowritten with Lepond
We forge ahead seeking glory
Yet the journey has just begun

I like SX's melodies better than DT's but that's no reason to call someone who disagrees a dumbass lol
I like DWOT more than this song, but it's still one of the greatest epics ever written

Weird.
The other day I was thinking it would be cool to make an album around the Odyssey. I just found out about this album today.
Darn it....

Well, saying Dream Theater doesn't have meody is like saying Iron Maiden doesn't have a vocalist

yea they do. its called the 12 step suite. Glass Prison, This Dying Soul, Root of All Evil, Repentence, and The Shattered Fortress.
warsquirrel7 2 years ago
That's still 5 different songs. They are all based on the same thing but they aren't a continous song bro.
BloodReverence 2 years ago
i suppose. i count it as one song.

it kind of is, because one song begins where the other ends

did Michael Romeo write this whole song? becuz u wrote [music - Romeo].

copy and pasted from a website
I assume it was him and Russell Allen. Most likely Romeo based off of his solo album.
MusicalEwok 3 years ago
I think Micheal Romeo directed the complete song (except the Circe part with Rusell) , because everything is very Romeo style
