The weird thing about the Joe Patroni situation is in the original Airport he was an A&P mechanic with a wife and I believe three young kids in the dialog, Airport 75 and 77 had him with ONE kid (still a wrench turner), so by Airport 79, all of the sudden he is an airline captain. I never got the sense he was a pilot in the previous films (maybe private, but not a commercial one). The whole thing seemed a bit... odd.
No this scene should not have been removed, it gives valuable insight into Joe Patroni's family, only other movie was Airport 1975. It shows him being a devoted father and hushand despite his busy schedule.
Is this from TNT's Super 70s Week circa late 90s? I taped Airports 75, 77, 79 when TNT showed them all in order and they were the extended tv versions and when I finally bought the Airport DVD pack, they left all these extra scenes out including the original ending of 79.
@YourFaceWillDie468 I had never seen this but when I did I recognized it was the same actor who played his son in Airport 75 but he was around 13. His son and wife both were on the plane but his wife was played by Susan Clark. Here it is Jessica Walter. That actor also was Maude's Grandson on Bea Arthurs TV Show Maude in the 70s for the 1st several yrs.

LOL this scene looks like an outtake from a 70s sitcom (the only thing missing is a laugh track).

Good grief, what an awful scene! And that's saying something given the entire movie!

This entire subplot was absolutely awful and unnecessary. It really ruins the pacing of the film up until that point. Good thing it was removed.
