Beautiful song, it is said that it was written to honor the memory of his son Karac. I saw the last concert of the 1977 Led Zeppelin tour. Karac's death was announced after the show in Louisville, Ky and the the tour was cancelled. I remember discovering that the "sexiest" and most talented man in the rock world was remarkably human. Part of me will always be in love with Robert Plant!
I bet even divorced, Maureen would rather hear "thank you" instead of this one cause anyone will cry to this beauty of a song! U can feel Percy talking directly to Karac on this song!
I think the "Percy" nickname is reference to Percy B. Shelley the poet. Plant is a big fan of the romantic English poets. Plus the name is kind of a good natured taunt to his pretty boy image fronting ZEP.
This is one of the better videos from the 80s. It stands against many of the videos we see today. Robert always did have a good creative spirit. He was a very equal part of what Zeppelin was doing...and his own career stands well on its own. Not many mega group singers can pull that off. It is very scary to go out on your own after mega stardom with a super group. However, he was not afraid to fail that is why he succeeded. He just said *amn it all and gave it his best.
Ok guys I messed up on the timing. Yes this came out in 1993. This was the tail end of the 80s sound. You know after years go by you tend to forget which album came out at what time... my bad! I thought this one came out in his last 80s album. I think that was Manic Nirvana and came out around 1989. Keep in mind this is all of memory. Anyway this one is a good song and video we can all agree on that. :)
and the above song is about his son..... it was written long before it was recorded ...it just took some time before he was able to sing it without crying....but people around him wanted him to record because its such a geat song
robert plant is still married to maureen she split up with him due to all the publicity of adultry while on different tours with led zeppelin.he wants her back but she wont let him.... he had a son(karac) who died of aa mtsyerious ailment his daughter is married to his bass player charlie
wow...i cant believe someone such as yourself can have so much disrespect for a man who has given us as much as Plant has entertainment wise. please...b4 making any more dumb comments like that...i ask that you do some research...otherwise, just dont comment...thank you
In 1992 I saw Plant play at SaltAir, a tiny, shabby shell of a building on the edge of the Great Salt Lake. The place was packed with sweaty, drunk rockers. As Robert sang "I Believe", two guys 10 feet in front of the stage were beating the tar out of each other. A girl was punched out and dragged off as Plant sang "Neighbor, neighbor: don't be so cold". I was so unimpressed with Plant from that moment on--he could have stopped the band and called attention to the violence right in front of him.
What a weird nonsensical reaction. What was he supposed to do about it? He's not a bouncer. What did YOU do about it? Sounds like it was a low dive full of moronic poor white trash. Who cares if they beat each other up?
What is the singer and band leader supposed to do when members of the audience are beating the sont out of each other? How about stop the music and restore order, fool. Sound good? I saw Peter Gabriel do that very thing the same year--he stopped right in the middle of "Salisbury Hill" to tell a mob to STOP fighting. Get a heart, dick head.
Okay, I know I'll get thumbs down on this, but so be it.
I love Plant alot! But...I saw him at the Los Angeles Forum in the early 1980's. A really young girl ran the stage, and was cruelly dragged away by body guards. They really didn't need to be so rough with her.
plant is tryin to put on a show, security is delt with after the show its not his fault, but they have no idea what someone has in mind when rushing the stage..they play all over the world...they have to be careful during those type of situations...plant is a very unique individual... my only beef with him is the fact that he wont get back together with page and jonsey....so they are getting another singer and gonna do it themselves with bonhams son...
i was introduced to plant by my uncle at the age of 10 and i have followed his music career since then. i love everything he has put out since the zeppelin days...even tho alot of people around me have given up on him, i have not believing that the path he has taken is a strong one. this is one of my fave songs by him...in fact its from one of my fave albums by him too....much respect to you Robert!!
Yeah I agree with you. I got into Zeppelin when I was 19 (I'm 23 now). Then I started to check out Roberts solo stuff, and he's become my favorite artist. Did you hear his duet album with Alison Krauss? It's fantastic.
yes i have heard the album. funny you should mention that because im a big fan of Plant and my wife is a big fan of Krauss. So you could imagine how happy we both were when that album came out. its kinda like they got together just for us...lol. but its good to see people younger than me appreciate music that is older than me (im 34 now)

This is in reply to julietamurray. You're right. You do not ever recover from losing a child. I lost my oldest, 35yrs, 12-26-2006. The pain never goes away. I've just learned to go on because I have to. What else is there to do??
Smutne
You can know that there is a God. You cant have a creation without a creator just like you cant have building without a builder. I met God years ago and have no doubt that He is real. I have never been the same. I just asked Him to come into my heart and He did! I still remember the time and place that is happened.
I feel what Robert Plant want to say, even, if I do not really understand the connection of the english lyrics. But I feel, his fear, questions and nevertheless strength and courage to go on. That is what I and my family must do now, too. I hope there is a god. We'll never really now.
My father loved Led Zeppelin, met Robert Plant 2004 in Germany. My father was one of the greatest fans in Germany of the Led Zeppelin members. He died on December 08 2007. When I hear this song, I know this has so much to do with an unbelievable losing of a loved person. And now the person who is meant for me, is my father.
That's a beautiful story, I was looking for "Great Spirit" from 'Fate of Nations" but this is no disappointment at all. If you like this, check out "little by little" also.
love it ...

This song is a tribute to his son Carac (Karak) who died when he was 7 yrsold
When Carac died, and then John Bonham, it was too much for Robert
It was essentially the end of Led Zeppelin
Why not try to have a heart and look into the history
It plainly says,
"Look at your Father see his blood run cold"
Son, talk to me
Do your research before posting a crude, heartless and unwarrented comment about something you are so obviously ingorant

This song is about his young son Karac, who died from a mysterious virus... I believe the child was like 4 or 5 years old...
