  • why this is on Eb instead of E

  • @lalopumas14 Italian baroque pitch is about a half tone down. French is a hole tone down. Pitch wasn't as firmly one as it is today with 440.

  • what is the sound at 6:19 ? is that the organ ? or what is that ? sounds nice anyways

  • is this a real funeral?

  • @ibijoy Of course it is. That is why they are on stage, have a opera-orchestra in the ditch and are preforming in front of an audience.

  • awesome

  • owwww you should never delete this .. this is the best version I have heared .. AMAZING ! AMAZING I cry here right now, sooo beautifull !

  • Essa adaptação foi encenada em Viena, Áustria e é de extrema criatividade. Passe-se num velório contemporâneo, com o texto do original inglês de Händel. A encenação, a direção cênica e musical está perfeita. Parabéns e obrigado a quem postou o vídeo. Nelson (SP, Brasil, 1.2.2011).

  • Forgive my modern English colloquialism...but the tenor is freakin' awesome!

  • Interesting. I think the funereal represents the passing of the old

ways of the the old testament and the child representing the Messiah and the prophecies being fulfilled.

  • Isn't this lower? But his voice is beautiful.

  • Hi, i just wanted to know, why the recit for behold darkness shall cover the earth was removed! it was one of my favourite videos!!!! could you post it again? please :) !!

  • Now you can order it on DVD at Amazon.com

  • Now you can buy it on Amazon.com :)

  • On a more serious note though, is there any way that I can find out what the signspeaker is saying in English?

  • I just noticed there is no man in the 2nd violin section

  • This scene made me see that text from a very different angle. "Every Valley shall be exulted" He touches the mourners as if to remind them that the valley of their grief will be raised and the mountains and hills of the troubles in front of them, will be laid low. Beautiful.

  • I love this guy but truth be told he is sounding pretty rough. And he sings it a full step lower! Sorry Richard, I know you've had better days.

  • Buy the DVD on amazon. com!

  • Gorgeous voices and unique staging. I just bought this on amazon.com, blu-ray DVD. Look for Messiah staged by Claus Guth with soprano Susan Gritton, countertenor Bejun Mehta, Tenor Richard Croft, Bass Florian Boesch. Arnold Schonberg Chor, Ensemble Matheus, Dir Jean-Christophe Spinosi., Wien Theater an der Wien, April 2009.

  • its a pity that boeschs aria "thus said the lord" is missing. a few months ago i found it together with "and who may abide".

I second jonnoedwardo, but im especially in love with boeschs voice. so impressive.

  • Die Gebärden sind wunderschön! Sehr bewegend, selbst wenn man sie nicht versteht.

  • What performance is this from and how do I get a copy of it? I would love to have this on Video or DVD. Thanks for posting such beautiful music. :)

  • I must watch this every week or more. I absolutely love the tenor; I love the staging; I love Händel! Thank you so much for posting this.

  • @jonnoedwardo

Watch it, watch it even everyday if you want, this make my video and my channel only more popular eh eh :-)))) Cheers

  • Really wierd with that cheerfull music att the funeral! xD But I liked this version! How did you like our schools version carosaxne? Videos are on my channel

  • Thanks for posting this!!!

  • Wow! The tenor is soooo awesome! Very talented.

  • Performance is marvellous, but... the staging! Whilst the actual set design is quite clever, but the singers' gyrations are completely ridiculous! =/

  • Non male questo Haendel. Noto con piacere che Spinosi si è dato una calmata nell'esecuzione. Ora sì che mi sta più simpatico.

    PS

    Questi registi di teatro... :-(
