Muslims say that translations from the arabic are not accurate and you have to read arabic to understand the true meaning, I know youve covered this part, however the passage in the koran that says you can beat your wife is different from arabic to english. Argh... just for the record, when we are discussing texts that are hundreds of years old, can we take that current social/political situation into account?
Lets consider what Islam in the time of Muhammad give women shall we? Female infantcide was prohibited (Sura 81:8-9), sexual abuse of slave girls was prohibited (Sura 24:33, Sura 4:19), women are allowed to inherit.
I could go on. I'm not a scholar or muslim but as is the case with all holy books, you must look at them holistically.

For example, praying. The Qur'an doesn't teach you how to do that, Ahadith do.

Around two minutes in there is an error. Most Qurans state in Surah Maidah that "if you have been in contact (had sex) with a woman". Its not suggesting to touch a woman makes one dirty - but it states after having sex, ejaculation etc.. One has to clean themselves, its nowt to do with a woman. Please show how many people converted to Islam last year as opposed to other religion. Being born a Muslim is an unfair advantage to be used in describing growth of a religion. Muslims say that translations from the arabic are not accurate and you have to read arabic to understand the true meaning, I know youve covered this part, however the passage in the koran that says you can beat your wife is different from arabic to english. In english it says to lightly beat, in arabic it just says to beat your wife. No indication whatsoever to how hard to beat her.

So, in response. 1. Read the bit after. Specifically how it then talks about God, i.e. "You can have sex with your wife, but be good about it. 2. Women would have been working in the house, as was the typical cultural thing of the time- why would they know about the happenings? Such is why two are needed. 3. Touching a woman in a sexual way = something that needs to be purified because praying is presenting yourself before God. And sand is allowed because they're in the DESERT. Lack of water.
