Thanks a lot for the video, I was aware of the 1905 Model and had played with several very early .38´s with te same double barrel link, but didn´t know about the 1907 model intermediate development step. I heard the original .45 acp ammo was a bit milder and the bullet was 200 grains instead of 230, do you think the 1905 and 07 are too fragile to handle modern .45acp loads? I aso heard that "The Comission" requested the grip auto safety after seeing such device on the Luger guns. Regards.
@carlos45703030 There are a few of 1905's floating around that have had modern .45 acp ammo shot thru them. The slides are cracked at the slide wedge (usually a hairline crack at the back corner of the cutout in the slide). There was one that was recently on Gunbroker that had been braised back together. The 1905's can't handle the modern ammo. Interesting point on the "automatic safety" device (grip safety).
@snoozer987 The January 1907 Pistol Trials Board eleminated all the competition except for Savage and Colt. The Board recommended several changes including an "automatic safety". In May, Gen Crozier asked for bids from Colt and Savage for 200 field trial pistols. Colt responded with a bid of Model 1905 for $18 ea. and Model 1905 Modified for $25 each. The Gen picked the Model 1905 modified pistol and Ordnance named it the Model 1907. Just over 200 were made. I have a seperate video on it. Thnx!
Wow. You could see how it starts to evolve into the M1911.

Who decided that the 1907 Colt, needed a grip safety? You had mentioned that the U.S. Cavalry insisted on a thumb safety, in another video.
