  • there may also be a slight edit at 2:02, probably not though.

  • and thus the matrix lobby scene was born

  • no one reloads...

  • beatass long take???

  • i read online that this whole thing is called "Gun Kata" it was used in FEAR, Max Payne, The film Equilibrium with Christian Bale, and i think Shoot 'em up. And obviously all of John Woo's films. "Gun Kata" sounds awesome

  • just another day in Hong Kong...

  • Man Chow Young Fat is such a hackz, he always has the no clip infinite ammo cheat on.

  • This scene reminded me of Left 4 Dead

  • I feel like I'm playing Time Crisis 2, except I don't monumentally suck at it.

  • Is it just me or does some of the soundtrack sound like Predator 2 which was out the same year?

  • I've had the unfortunate experience of seeing more than ONE John Woo film. I will not make that mistake again.

  • MAX FUCKING PAYNE is what this reminds me of...lol i gotta watch this movie now

  • @igotyou62 Max Payne was inspired by the John Woo movies. Hell, even one of the difficulty levels is called Hard Boiled.

  • @bffoxjr not to mention, the password to go into one of the gangster's joints is "John Woo". remember that? :)

  • @pageshadow

damn man i remember that lol

  • thats an awesome shotgun. John woo makes great movies

  • Shotgun + Machine gun = UNSTOPPABLE

  • I am baffled that John Woo is allowed to continue to make movies. Horrible simply horrible stuff. Unwatchable. Sooooooooooo boring. He will NEVER get my money again. Shame on Woo.

  • @princez413 Did you even watch the whole movie or just based it off this scene?

  • @princez413 then go watch twilight or some shit

  • @princez413 Wow, you obviously have no taste in anything whatsoever.

  • "Only two things are infinite: human stupidity and spent shotgun shells in a John Woo's film. And I'm not sure about the former."

    Albert Einstein

  • @HomingMissiles when your that bad ass you dont need to reload

  • Comment removed

  • Anyone else know what Chow Yun Fat mixes his tequila with? At the beginning of the movie he pours tequila the something else from a can. What is that, can anybody tell me?

  • @GORIZARD6 I'm pretty sure it's Schweppes

  • It's like one of those Arcade rail shooters.

What they didn't do was shoot all the little things like the television screens or the lights for bonus points, otherwise they would have received the bonus stage.

I also noticed they skipped the explosive shotgun shells flashing in the corner, if they had gotten that, by shooting it, they would have done a lot more damage in the scenes to follow.

    Fortunately, there were no hostages...

  • Omg, this movie ages very well. Recent gun fight movies have nothing on Hard Boiled.

  • the graveyard shift just got worse

  • 2:45 I swear to god I thought i was playing Time Crisis.

  • This scene always reminded me of those arcade lightgun games where you're just going down hallways shooting anything in your path ;)

  • there's a hidden cut before the elevator when the the camera turns from the dying cop to tony

  • This Scene is just fucking Badass .

2 guys with weapons, walking in a corridor = Badass

  • I think everyone should get on down to amazon where this is only £2.50 brand new.

Can I get a thumbs up?

  • The shotgun sounds makes the movie badass. =D

  • I watched this then played counter strike... it was amazing

  • on 1:07 the bullet seems to have a straight fly

  • The guy with the eyepatch is one of the five deadly venoms. I believe it is the lizard.

  • Anybody have a body count?

  • i HATE mad dog so damn much!

  • There's a cut at 1:11 look carefully at the actor's eyes. But still a cool scene. Awesome!

  • nice use of Predator 2 soundtrack

  • @pacificimporters Predator 2 soundtrack? serious? Hard Boiled was in 1993, when your P2 comes only in 1997

  • @GlinkoPlayman Predator 2 came out in 1990

  • @pacificimporters oh, sorry. My mistake

  • This scene ought to be the main inspiration for Time Crisis. Two guys, a set of four weapons, hundreds of innacurate mooks just jumping into their sights...

  • @EnemySnipa18

And I wouldn't have it any other way! =)

  • Wow, that take was almost 3 minutes! Hardcore!

  • You just pissed off the WRONG chinese guys! You might aswell pull down your trousers and paint a target on your ass, cos its gonna get a hell of a lot of caps busted in it.

  • actually there is an edit after Tong Leung's character shoots the cop.. it's at 1:11-1:12.. if you look closely..

  • @dragonsflame35

    Ha! very sneeky

  • @dragonsflame35 Tong?? haha.. I mean Tony!

  • Time crisis style "ACTION!"

  • the only realy stand out error in this epic take is when chow yun fat aims his shotty at the window, it doesnt fire but the bloke falls out 1:01

no director has the balls to do a take like this, when they get in the lift the whole set is changed, including scenery and all the squibs for the gunshots

    epic shit

  • Today, the long take has become a cliche on its own.

  • I like how he has no cuts on him after all of that.

  • I reallt like the sound of the guns.

  • It's sad that we probably won't see action scenes like this anymore. All the new films are all CGI and quick cuts.

  • @samuraiblaze666 Who says we won't?

Besides, there's nothing wrong with CGI. It's just how it's used. It's like any other filmmaking tool--in the hands of the right person, it's magic. In the hands of a hack, it's garbage.

  • @samuraiblaze666 Three words for you my friend: Tom-Yum-Goong.

  • Yea Amazing Movie. I love John Woo Pumgun action. need a john Woo Collectors edition with a Mossberg 590. Need only two shots to destroy my house^^

  • 2:58. Hit detection FAIL, just like Black Ops lol.

  • @Agent1W

Werent you paying attention to the rest of the scene? It was lagging.

  • @Fatmouse25 You've got a point there!

  • this is like 2 rambos on steroids.

  • Almost 20 years later and this action scene has YET to be topped.

  • The best action film ever made, enjoy or die!

  • dammit i wanna play this scene on pc

  • I've always wondered if shooting a desk really cause papers to fly everywhere like they do in the John Woo movies, since I always see that happening.

  • Don't the Chinese ever teach firearms safety like "keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire?"

  • Idiots, they change takes in every slow motion part. it was NOT a single take.

  • @sukebe9

Actually, the slow motion parts are done manually in the camera and the first 2:50 is a single continuous shot. That is a fact.

  • @sukebe9 How does that even make sense? It's impossible to make that sort of cut without being obvious, especially with the technology they had when they made this movie. Sorry, but this is all raw, single shot footage. Besides, this isn't Children of Men when they run into dark areas and then theres a cut.

  • @kevinohisamazing, according to the Hong Kong Film Net review: "Woo wanted to do the shot all in one take, but money was running low, so (even though the crew offered to work for free) he had to splice two shots together."

  • @JosephKuby Hm, this is true, I stand corrected, and I apologize. but the cut happens at 1:11 if you watch closely, but it seems kind of unnecessary and more like a film glitch then a cut seeing as they had the crew rush in and change the set anyways. There could also have been another one at 2:41, but I can't really see how it saved on money either. But oh well, there is a cut, and I stand corrected.

  • @kevinohisamazing, it's okay, you don't have to apologize. It could be that John Woo did multiple takes of the same shot since longevity of a shot requires good memory and it would be common for there to be mistakes to be made.

It could be that 2:41 is a glitch and 1:11 is a cut.

Anyway, I wish the film Doom had shots like these.

  • What word other than "BOSS" can be used to adequately describe this scene?

  • This would have been the perfect action movie if it just has better humor. Some of their one liners and puns were so stupid and shallow. There are times when the action is so elongated that you forget what the story is all about.

  • @Zamudiokid It's just hard to translate shit like that. I can almost guarantee that it doesn't sound anywhere near as stupid to a Chinese-speaking audience. I don't speak Cantonese, but years of watching bad translations and the occasional good translation, it's hard to judge dialogue like that with only subtitles to go on.

  • @sestsa Im not saying how it comes out. The pathos is whats funny, because they say shit like they know its funny when it dry like sand. Good bad ass action though, good coordination with time.,

  • @sestsa plus these movies aren't really about the dialogue. You can pay attention to the acting without understanding the words. For me the characters are still great because of the emotions and inflections in the speech. The subs get the job done so you have a general idea of what is going on in the plot.

  • i actually thought they used real guns...

or they are really using real guns??

  • long uncut shot is long.

    F'in win.

  • Stranglehooold

  • The only game that best recreated this scene is The Getaway on PS2. Playing as DC Carter in the second half of the game.

  • Man, it's like time crisis!

  • i think he can hav the "Tactical Nuke" kill streak!

  • And to think this film was made with 4.5 million dollas!

  • 1:13 he just realized he killed a man

  • Kinda reminds me of madness combat

  • 2:45, I thought it went into first person mode for a second xDDD

  • 3 people mistook the dislike button for "Dis I like."

  • If you count the shots and consider that theirs no cut for most of the shootout, then apart from the black handgun the amount of shots fired is fairly accurate.

  • Why waste your time with an AA-12 when Chow Yun-Fat has a shotgun which can blow buildings apart?

  • hahahah EVEN ASIANS! ARE MORE GANGSTER THAN BITCH ASS NIGGERS! HAHAHAHAHAH! FUCK YALL BIIIITCHES!

  • Resident Hard Boiled 5.

  • wft at o:15 he shoot a shoutgun at him and flying throw the window were he was shot at

  • Major props to the stuntmen in this scene! I also wonder how the two main characters had enough blanks in their guns to continue making muzzle flashes, or whether that was added later

  • ROFL it's funny how the corpses will roll to the edge of the hallways to make way for these two guys

  • dagegen ist ja die szene in terminator 1 (Polizeistation) gar nichts.

  • The only person to take down Chow-Yun-Fat is

    Chow-Yun-Fat

  • @bourneishere same for Chuck Norris and Jack Bauer.

  • Is it true that when they got into the lift the lift doesnt actually move and in those 20 seconds they changed the set?

  • @700gsteak yup

  • wait a tick at 1:08 you here a shot fired from the shotgun while the man with the hat is shoting the cop could it be chow finished off the guy who was playing dead

  • ha ha at a 1:03 a guy that didn't even get shot flip's out of the window and die's chow was going to shot him but was fooled by his act of getting shot and playing dead ha ha ha

  • This whole scene alone is better than the max payne movie :)

  • guess they got sick of wait for the public health reform bill to pass

  • @InsaneDoJo ha ha ha ha ha ha, I like your comment very much. That's Obama's department.

  • shotgun and pistols are his favs ahah

  • The asian Chuck Norris?

  • if only one of them decided to not run out and suicide, but instead shoot from cover, they'd unable to progress.

  • the sound power is fucked

  • fucking epic!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So majestic, almost operatic is the violence of this scene.

  • yes there is technically 1 cut in the 4-minute take, but it is still really damn impressive! even split apart, those are some long takes for choreographed shootouts!

  • Why do the gunshots sound different in this one? Which version is this?

  • IF YOU CAN'T CONQUEROR YOURSELF HOW CAN YOU FIGHT OTHERS?

  • A Shotgun which fires deadly smoke at people.. wow!

  • i wouldnt wanna see what would happen if you could combine chow yun fatt and chuck norris it would be the end of the world he would be the one being that could kick fight jesus and win

  • I'm not sure but I think somewhere in there Chow Yun Fat said reloading is for pussies!

  • how many damn terrorists are there shit.

  • I got my ass kicked just from looking at the title of this movie...

  • oh my god that was whats up

  • its crazy how powerfull they make the shotgun look

  • when hollywood-producers saw this back in the 90s, they spontaniously exploded

  • If they ever made a Virtua Cop movie (or a movie about any lightgun shooter), it should look like this.

  • @TrippyJing

Funny you should mention that, the Time Crisis games are loosely based on this film. Wild Dog, the series recurring "boss" villain, is based off the main boss from Hard Boiled.

  • Comment removed

  • Yea lets see hollywood pull of something like this... THEY CANT!!!

  • This is how you shoot an action sequence-- shoot it like a goddamn orchestra.

  • Obviuosly these guys don't know what hiding around a corner means and shooting is.

  • This was before women started hiding. REAL men rush into battle with guns a'blazing.

  • The gunshot sound effects are simple orgasmic.

  • 1:13...they cut!!!!

  • This scene is the reason that is my favorite movie. :)

  • you can't say they don't make films like this anymore, because this is the only film like it

  • Dude. This looks like it would make the most insane, yet kickass, co-op shooter ever created.

Also, have you noticed how amazingly exaggerated all of the shots and grenades were? lmao!

  • KICK ASS SHOOTOUTZ!

  • It's the asian chuck norris

  • i didnt like this crap it makes American action films look like crap.., its anti-American.

  • @1415gateway

American? It's fucking Hong Kong action!

  • Legendary scene.

  • omg! 0:10 to 2:50 was one goshdarnholymotherofgodfreakingly take.

  • this has to be the worst shot, fakest, and bad acted movie ever which makes it one of the best action films of all time

  • @heathawesome 1. It's not shot too bad. It's cheesily shot, yeah. But it works.

    2. Fake? Of course it's fake, it's a movie!

    3. Well, it is over-acted at times, but that's how HK cinema is. Melodramatic. And oftentimes the acting is just good and nicely balanced. It's definitely entertaining.

    4. But, yeah. One of the greatest action flicks of all time. = )

  • I love this film 1 of my best action inpact movie. thks for upauding this movie

  • LOL at 0:48-1:04

  • That's a bad-ass cop. We need more officers like him. Gangs wouldn't stand a chance

  • BEST ACTION SCENE EVER.

    Amirite

  • I'm just playing Stranglehold. Chow Yun-Fat FTW.

  • this is why you do not fuck with chinese people, Bruce lee, jet li, chow, they'd all fuck ur white asses up, so next time you call us a chink or make fun of our eyes, make sure its not the wrong person

  • one take...masterful

  • its awesome its like an interactive movie

  • John Woo is really good at making crazy shootout scenes such as this. lol

  • holy shit!, im getting a 12 gauge now!!!

  • Sorry Chuck Norris. Chow Yun-Fat takes your place.

  • @Goku3388 in fact is chuck norris morphed like a asian

  • @Goku3388 I'll be at your funeral.

    xD

    I'm kidding.

  • That's cool how they know exactly where the enemy will be, must be some kind of sixth sense.

  • CYF wallhack.

  • wow..that was cool

  • Holy motherfuck'n god that shit was the shit.

while watchin' I was like:Yeah, get 'em chow!!!!

  • You haven't seen the movie have you?

  • brilliant

  • that was so fkn badass. one continuous take like a godamn Max Payne game XD

  • Actually, you probably wouldn't have Max Payne, or anyone that he was based off of if it wasn't for this.
