Mao was a genuinely evil and highly corrupt dictator, of this there is no doubt, and to this day has created generations of otherwise great people who are full of hate for people (Americans, capitalists, etc), without even really understanding why. Like hating someone just for being black. Or white. Or whatever. But to you other people on here who are neither communist nor American attempting to incite further hate, what the hell is the matter with you? Not enough hate in the world already?
Mao is certainly the savior of of freedom human right and socialism in China and the fight against facist capitalism. Also is important to remember he is our inspiracion for many revolusions in Latinoamerica like in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela world capital of Maoism!!!! Long live glorios Chairman Mao memory!!! Long live Comander Chavez!!!
On the other hand, I think he needs to be held accountable for some very disasterous plans in China, such as Great Leap Forward and possibly Cultural Revolution.I know Mao was old and suffering from Parkinson's disease during CR,so I don't know how enfeebled he was and could thus be used. Other thoughts:I think any political leader that won't allow dissent and stern criticism, even ridicule of him/herself is absolutely wrong.Freedom means taking it on the chin sometimes and turning other cheek.
I think the question of Mao is very complex.I've heard both sides, from mainland Chinese and Han Chinese in Taiwan.I'm not Chinese, but I had a Chinese husband and I've listened to many discussions abt. Mao.I think the Chinese people, connected much better w/ Mao than Jiang.Jiang was really for business people, and was viewed as a sellout to West. I tend to agree, somewhat.I think he made too many compromises to West.
Mao was a great man, look at China before him a broken divided country full of uneducated peasants exploited by western powers and warlords.
Mao is no different to other leaders who achieved great things who could have united a country and built it up without difficulties.
Stalin said "One death is a tragedy a Million a statistic" numbers written on internet without real facts who can be sure of accurate population statistics, its exaggerated higher and higher by anti Communist propaganda.
may be u are better in jokes that in all the rest of it.
In Italian the Soviet Union is said Unione delle Repubbliche Socialiste Sovietiche= URSS. I've said so for more than 50 years; or, as I suppose u know CPPP, in Russian.
So said u seem loose yourself in details. And to discard the essential.
your jokes already were old at Adam&Eve times. For that I believe u are a Polish.
That about the 3 KGB agents in Italy was said about Carabiniers; and before them (in the anti-clerical Italy of the 20 Century start was said about 3 Pope soldiers).
Just pure rubbish which doen't make laughing not even the most easy palates.
First of all they are Communist era jokes that came from within Communist nations of the former Soviet Union. They were collected and put into a book. Humor can often break down peoples hard line and one sided politics. Of course some people are so one sided they don't care and pick it apart, as you have done. I would have hoped you could look at the meaning behind the jokes, but then again, you are a Marxist. Humor is probably one of those creative, individualistic things you people hate.
I'm in Samui now, and I'm tacking bathes( which liked to Mao, Che and Trotzkji by the others); I cannot follow you.
If u fill alone, existencially alone, instead of being stucked at youtube, get a rifle; go to Nepal; reach the anti-imperialist guerrilla warfare of Pachandra' partisans which is possibly restarting, after his resignation; and enjoy the class clashes from there.
griparbellie, Communism is a failure. It cannot compete against capitalism, it just cant. It has been tried over and over again. Why od people like you still hold on to it? Because you think it will help the poor people of your nation? Controlled capitalism, limited and ruled by a rational set of lawas, is the best system. That has been proven. Holding onto some romantic idealistic notions while ignoring the actual results of the system you are idealizing is foolish.
Sohei, as far as Communism & workers movement in general is concerned I don' t believe I will discuss with u.
There is that Woody Allen movie, were the comedian tell about his experience of going to the veg. market and find all that old aunties & retired colonels cursing the youth and Socialism.
Here we are u look to me, in spite to your age on the lines of that old aunties: what the use to discuss?
Plus I' m sure u don' t give a blessed shit about the dead of the Chinese famine: isn' t it?
Fine, don't discuss it with me. It seems to be a common thing with Communists. You don't want to have realistic discussions about how Communism worked out in the countries in which it was tried, the fact that it failed miserably, caused famine and destruction of culture and identity, was shed by the majority of Communist nations after the boot of the Soviets was removed and goes against basic human nature. It has been tried many times. It cannot compete and caused more harm than good.
griparbelli, I don't even have to prove with words and facts that Communism doesn't work. History does that for me. It amazes me that people like you hold on to it so tight, it is your religion. Russia has shaken it off, although it has left a deep wound in their society that keeps them form becoming a free, open society where dissent is allowed. China is the same. Communism tends to do that to a people. It strips away their culture and soul, makes them slaves to the state, and the state is God.
And one more thing griparbelli. I give far more of a belssed shit about the people who died in the famine than any person who continues to admire or support Mao ever could.
Eventually, the official motorcade drives him to the foot of the Eiffel Tower, where Brezhnev finally stares up in amazement and astonishment. He turns to his French hosts and asks in bewilderment: "But, Paris is a city of 9 million people... surely you need more than one watchtower?"
Leonid Brezhnev pays a state visit to France and he's given a VIP guided tour of Paris. He's conducted round the splendours of the Élysée Palace, but remains as stony-faced as ever. He's shown the masterpieces of the Louvre, but the curators fail to get any reaction out of him. He's taken to the Arc de Triomphe, but displays not the slightest interest.
if u want know anything of Mao, you can start reading " the little Red book" if u don' t want to read the 5 volumes of his collected work.
If u are really looking for indipendent sources, have a look at Shramm, Jang Ch'en, Hinton, and now Mobo Gao and Dongping Han (all are non Communist source but scientifically serious). Mao, the undefeated transformer, was not a joke.
Or u can start with the always excellent Edgar Snow' s Red Star On China. Not a Commie ,
Edgar Snow is not as simple a figure as you state. Many believe he was highly biased and far too close to Mao. He is critisized for his reporting on the famine caused by the great leap forward. Everyone has a bias of one kind or another. I personaly really liked the work of Chang and Halliday, even if people with a more favorable view of Mao might dismiss their work.
I've no time to answer u now: I'll do in due course.
Jang& Hallyday, two former fanatical maoist, are a ludicrous scandal in theyr fonts: for ex they quote (casually) Walesa . What Walesa knows of Mao is a mistery. Any way if u knows as scholar search has to be done u understand immidiately their bogus : a scandal.
Good for Breznev, for Bush for stopkilling in Tibet. But not for a serious person.
Apparently YOU are the one who doesn't know what you are talking about. He wrote in one of his books, The Other Side of the River, that there wasn't really a famine. He was too close to Mao and Zhou Enlai, he took them at there word that there was no food problem. There actually was.
To start knowing Mao historical figure by reading Jang&Hallyday (2 ex fanatical Maoist); it is like if a child asks Who God is? and u answer : read (about him) the Black book of Satana worshippers, so u can understand who God is.
Does anyone have a non-biased non-propaganda information on him? I want to make up my own opinion but from sources that aren't Communist or Capitalist.
LadyE; A recent book (2005) on Mao called "The Unknown Story of Mao" written by Jung Chang and Jon Halliday, is an amazing, and factual book om the life of Mao.
Chang was born in China with a Ph.D in Linguistics from a British University. She was in the Red Guard briefly at the age of fourteen, and has lectured at Sichuan University in China.
In regards to the "real" Mao, this book will blow your mind wide open. The book is highly documented with thousands of real sources.
Dealit707 advised u a book which is" an intellectual scandal" (Mobo Gao).
Can possibily u believe that the man u was a schoolteacher, who won many battles in a small party, who overthrow Marxist dogmas, who gave an organization to million of desperate peasant rebellions: who did the Long March; who founded a powerful State; who made a second revolution against the mummies in his Party; who was the idol of millions of young rebels; can be slurred by a joke of 2 baby impostors?
Their books-he was a fervent maoist in the '70's (and as every ex fells under the more then actual Isaac Deutscher assessment on this tyoe of renegades) - are an intellectual scandal (Mobo Gao). And I add: much more then only " intellectual". Never seen anything alike.
I would add that Chang and Halliday were very meticulous on listing their sources. To dismiss them, in my opinion, is to show a bias in facor of a more positive view of Mao regardless of evidence to the contrary.
For all who still admire Mao I suggest you to read the book "Mao the unknown story, ISBN:0224071262. I bet you will have a different view of him after reading it...
That book is proven to be full of lies, written by an angry old upper-class woman who enjoyed special privileges and fled China first chance she got, with not even the slightest HINT of an ATTEMPT to be objective. Just do a google-search and you'll see for yourself. It's nothing but propaganda...
"Mao Zedong didn't set out to be the world's most lethal dictator. It was never his goal to kill more than 80 million of his own people. But then, sometimes things just happen. And anyway, somebody's gotta be the world's deadliest political leader."
Communism is among the most dehumanizing political/economic philosophies in the history of the planet. But then, if people are but biological machines, as the evolutionary synthesis-du-jour mandates, then its *logical* to dehumanize them.
The socalled femine between 1957 and 1960 was also another lie of the bureaucracy and bourgeoisie.
The everage mortality rate of those years was 18.14‰, and the highst was 25 ‰, lower than any year before 1949! The mortality rate rised indeed a lot, but only for bad economy and medical care! After the collapse of Soviet Union, the declining population data of Russia reached several millions in a only 150 millions population! Were they all starved to death?
highly agree. china now is not a socialism country any more. Deng is a betrayer of the people of china. i do believe mature socialism is far better capitalism, in all aspects including human rights and democracy.
True, the exploiting nations certainly benefit from the free market, as do especially the capitalists.
There is something important to note here about the empowering of the state: If the state, holding all the economical power, doesn't represent and act in the direct interests of the people, it isn't really socialism; classes can't exist within socialist society.
A big government that acts out the wishes of its people is a far better and more democratic government than a small powerless one.
I'm a son of a poor chinese farmer, that's why I love Mao so much. He is hero of workers and farmers, not those rich exploiting bastards. I don't think he had done even one wrong thing, included in the GLF and the cultural revolution.
china's population 1958 was 673m...40m (5.94%) died in famine..compare that percentage with other famines around the world ie total death:total people involved
In fact Mao only killed when absolutely necessary and always warned against unecessary deaths. He admitted to necessary executions to secure the revolution but always enjoined against wrong and hasty executions. Chairman Mao is the greatest liberator in history. Chairman Mao - you will live forever and ever in the hearts of not only Chinese people, but oppressed people everywhere.
If Deng were to be the paramount leader earlier, shit like great leap forward and cultural revolution would never had happened. China would definitely be world's super power No. 1 today. Too bad, history had chosen a fatty pork lover to rule china for almost 30 years. Which in turn means 30 years of economic stagnation, or worse, regression
If you believe Jung Chang you are a fool. Her book is chock full of mispresentations, half-truths and outright lies. There is hardly one respected China scholar that has not roundly trashed that crap she put out.
The book isn't alowed n china cus it tells the truth, she grew up there. I doubt any chinese scholar is allowed praise the book, since human rights in china are piss poor. The Chinese were the oppressed mao was no liberator. He was responsible for the famine that killed 30 mil and the cultural revolution, where thousands were driven to sucide and beaten to death. Your nothing but a pissy wannabe communist, clear your head. The man was crazy, read some of his old works, from when he was at uni
YOu are a fucken idiot. Chairman Mao mistakes but these were well-intentioned because he was desperate for China to bring a good life to the peasants. His mistakes was he was too impatient to help the poor. Chairman Mao started the barefoot doctor system which provided health care to almost the whole population for free. This system has been praised in many medical experts in the West. Life expectancy 1949 was 35 years. Life expectancy 1978 was 68 years. Think how many lives Chairman Mao SAVED.
He also said that peasants were the purest people cus they were unintellectual and the more you read the stupider you were. The peasants life didn't change under mao at all they just got a different work system. He encouraged those shits the red gaurds by continuing to denounce "capatalist roaders" and "whites". People who had minimal connections to the kuomintang were savagely beaten and their houses vandalised. Mao was a despicible shit. Some day you'll realise
Mao did good, he did bad. But even Deng Xiaoping and Liu Xiaoqi were for the GLF at the beginning. False reporting covered up a whole lot of things that were going wrong. These leaders really believed that China would catch the West in living standards just a few short years. Sounds crazy to Westerners for sure. But China did not have a scientific revolution-they did not know better.Read about the 'cargo cult' effect. That best explains Mao and the GLF.
That wife of his and his red guards tore the place uprooted innocent people's lives, for what? A so called socialist paradise? Mao's first system of officials with privliges according to rank was so higherarcheal and un-socialist i dont know how he passed it off as communism. And just because there were other atrocities throughout the world doesn't justify mao, just cus someone gets shot doesn't mean its ok to stab someone does it?
Whatever wrongdoing of Mao, nothing compared to 50milln Chinese and Indians killed by British caused famine in 19th Century, up to 20million Congolese genocide by Belgians, and 100000 Herero killed by the Germans, the Native American genocide and African slavery. At least tragedies by Mao came from good intentions. Unlike those of the West who killed just to enrich themselves. China is building up by her own efforts -without colonies and invasion- unlike the West. Thanks to both Mao and Deng.

Chairman Mao is the greatest leader in world history. All you lesser mortals should think of Mao while bowing down to the greatness of China.
I like to look at pictures of Chairman Mao and think upon his greatness while having sexual intercourse with my wife. I also like it when she addresses me as Chairman Plough.
Sometimes I use pictures of my mother or my favourite goat. Funnily enough she resembles Chairman Mao too. (By that I mean my wife. My goat is very good looking and less hairy.)
Where are u from anyway, look, whatever good intentons mao had,he carried them out poorly, and had it not been for Deng Xiaoping Liu Xiaoqi the fucker would have done a whole lot worse, you cant mask his atrocites with good intentions, tho he distanced himself from many atrocties he let them happen.
The GLF was terrible tragedy. So was the cultural revolution. Mao sparked the cultural revolution because he did not want to see his brand of socialism subverted. And after his death this is exactly what happened. China certainly did take the 'capitalist' road - for the better. Mao had crazy ideas in his final years, but he did win independence for CHina. So without Mao there would not be the resurgent China of today. Deng Xiaoping said Mao was 7 parts good, 3 parts bad. That is fair judgement.
And whats this independance your talking about? After the communists took over what freedom do chinese have today? Remember the tienanmen square massacre? Because people wanted democracy? If people speak out against china today they're thrown in jail(provided they're in china) Mao was a despot, all the good intentons in the world dont cover up for the loss of nearly 70 million lives
and people complain that he had over 100 people sentenced to death. when in reality it was a good call over all. because he allowed people to criticize him, only it turned into violence rather than talks, and had he not done that, order would never of come true, and china would of plunged into a new set of bloody civil wars that would of costed millions of deaths.
what is dumb is people complain of his famine that came when he tried advancing china. oh sure 20 million chinese died in a 2year period to help boost the nation, yet nobody talks of how before mao came that 99% of chinese were dying of famine.
and the real reason he was cruel to the american soldiers in korea, was because before china officially declared war, the americans began bombing chinese cities near the yalu river to make sure the chinese could not come in, and it killed or injured over 50,000 chinese civilians...and one of them was his oldest son...
mao zedong is slightly misunderstood because when he first began reading communism, it was still very new and when he saw his great leap failed, he allowed citizens to criticize him as long as it was not going to cause riots or vandalism and even allowed chinese citizens to leave china if they wanted, and come back any time they wished to help get the chinese industry going. if it were not for mao, kruschev would of done this stupid cold war but mao refused to do a nuclear war.
This obvious bit of propagnda reveals a naive, simplistic view of Mao. Historically, communism (as it should be) in China seems to be working toward a democratic end; the process is not over and requires time. Look out world! Social justice, personal freedom, access to free education to doctorate level for the poorest deserving citizens (me and you)and eradication of inherited privilege are noble ideals to be achieved, even here in the United States. It is a process.
and it is shown it was very rare that innocent landowners or teachers were murdered. most who died, died because they were being cruel to the peasants first by throwing them off their land, robbing them, stealing, killing or raping them. mao did not want the few innocents to be killed but of course it will always happen. but most who were nice got to live on the land with the rest of the peasants and go to schools and get food like everyone else.
shit, you are brainwashed by your governments. please try to reach the truth through your independent judgement and research. mao is the greatest hero in my mind.
Remember it was by maus policies that the terrible famine happened. He wput a policy that that many people the farmers had to produce steel. This caused shortages in food production causing the great famine, but their exuse was natural disasters. Im sorry i have to disagree.
Mao is a dictator,he is a KILLER for our chinese people ,culture etc,all i could remember what he did for our china is Killer,he just like Hitler, and more crucial than Hitler,Hitler kill Jewish,But he lill his fellow chinese~!
the famines and deaths were necessary considering who the enemy was. mao was successful in keeping the united states from getting to his people. he knew, for his entire life, he had to use every bit of his labor for his people and not let the imperialists get to them. now, since his death, america has his people in its pocket and the poor are getting poorer
idiot you don't know what your talking about. necessary to starve fifty million people to death.. you are a moron. the only reason h did this was he sent all the countrys food to russia in exchange for the bomb ! grow up and stop blaming america for all the worlds ills mao tse tung was pure evil end of story...
i don't disrespect his personalities jl044. only thing i did not like of him was that he made his first great leap a disaster by not listening to his people until it was too late and i did not like him mistreating war prisoners during the korean war. but other than that he was great. he is the most deserving person to stop ww3, not kennedy. had it not been for mao who refused to have a nuclear war, the soviet union would of attacked.
and he deserves to be known as the first chinese that abolished slavery. and made it that everyone could get education, health, food and housing tools for all and gave land to everyone. and he even worked for hours every day in the fields with peasants.
and those who think i am 100% supporting mao are wrong. i am not saying that he was perfect, but he was definetely better than 99% of politicians in the 20th century.
and it is shown usually only the landowners and teachers who did cruel things to peasants were purged when mao came, because those who were nice before mao came, got to live as equals with the rest, and were even allowed to give their ideas to the state if it involved making a better equal class.
Mao Zedong killed 50-77 million people, much more than Hitler's 15-30 million. Why is it cool to admire a mass murdering dictator funded by wall street and the bank of england.
The people that admire Mao are brainwashed retards. I hope most of them still live in China. At least this would explane their blind worship of a sadist.
People who only criticise him are also fucking retards. He did a lot of good things for his country as well; without him China wouldnt exist as a unified sovereign nation today. He killed a lot of people as a result of disastrous agricultural policies but he doesnt deserved to be called a sadist by shitheads like you.
thecalebman is right moa killed more people then hitler and joesph stalin combined. He also encouraged the chinese people to have sexand is a huge part of chinas overpopulation problem.
plus it's also documented that he had bad oder problems and didnt shower and would take young girls to bed with him.....what a nasty pig
i know that sounds disgusting and all, but you would have to consider, Would i really do this if i had all this power? Would i really not swipe young girls to bed? You have to imagine what you would do in that situation, I know you're thinking, " I WOULD NEVER DO..." but then again, have you ever experienced extreme control of power? I doubt that almost no one today could understand him, because no one has ever had that experience
If only half of you knew how terrible he really was, how he killed millions of people and so on... I've got to write a paper about this at school, and I have read a lot about Mao. He was a terrible person.
Yes, it's tough under Mao but no pain is no gain for the Chinese people. Without Mao China will continue to be invaded, divided, corrupt and weak under Nationalist Chiang. History speaks for itself. China strength today is the foundation of Mao. All Chinese knows that. Only foreigner loves a weak leader -- of course they criticize him!
you know nothing about how to be a good nation's leader. Mao is a great man, a real man by all means. He changed the history of China. We Chinese will remember him forever.
Moreover, she admit it was her own conclusion, her own personal conclusion and no more. In the early 1970s they sided pro-Mao and praised him in numerous articles, but now they contradict themselves. I don't know if she adores or hates him, 1970s they loved him, now they don't? You can't even verify her sources either, so much for academic rubrics.
Chang's "Mao The Untold Story" is not even recognized by historians. Most of her claims or evidence comes from "Russian witness" or "Russian Insider" or vague figures, historians offer numerous rebuttals to her claims. Half her statements she releases to the press is about how much she loves Britain and how great Britain is over China. It should be Mrs. Chang, it shoved 1400 tons of opium down our throats for years, I'm sure with that money Britain could afford social services.
Well Said! she is completely biased, a novelist trying to be historian. I am glad to find out that her book on Mao is Not in the history section only in biography.
Well Said! she is completely biased, a novelist trying to be historian. I am glad to find out that her book on Mao is Not in the history section only in biography.
The lessons of history are there. Read "Mao The Untold Story" by Jang Chang and Jon Halliday (Vintage Press). This is a chronicle of a cruel, horrid leader who allowed his ego and lust for power to direct food, funds and resources overseas causing massive famine and whose murderous groups executed, tortured and imprisoned who they wished. It is the most upsetting book I have ever read as the suffering drips from the pages. It debunks the probaganda through which Mao managed his nation.
Personal Anger. Her mother apparently suffered during the GPCR. Also, you don't get books published and endorsed by dubya if they are pro-mao. But outragoues claims about farting obsessions, and battles never happening are bound to be endorsed by the bosses.
Is MC auther mass murderer in korea war or after WW2 american vertern treatment? Is Washington true hero of American independence no british puppet? How do you know Maozedong is murderer, just cuz west portray him in their own propanganda?
Thanks bevgarylaura! That's exactly what we like to hear. Thanks also to everyone else who has posted thoughtful comments here. We realize that this can be a controversial topic, and it's important to provide a space for the civil exchange of ideas.
No, I read the history not written by people who's goal is to prove "communism is a failure". Great achievements happened in China. Read Edgar Snow. Read Anna Louise Strong. Read William Hinton. Red Maria Macciochi
The Red Guards did not kill "anyone who opposed" Mao. They exposed Counter-Revolutionaries. The Great Leap Forward was not the fault of Mao, it was the Soviet's who pulled out all their aid, and natural disasters that caused the famine.
Mao was a genuinely evil and highly corrupt dictator, of this there is no doubt, and to this day has created generations of otherwise great people who are full of hate for people (Americans, capitalists, etc), without even really understanding why. Like hating someone just for being black. Or white. Or whatever. It cannot compete and caused more harm than good.
sohei75 2 years ago
griparbelli, I don't even have to prove with words and facts that Communism doesn't work. History does that for me. It amazes me that people like you hold on to it so tight, it is your religion. Russia has shaken it off, although it has left a deep wound in their society that keeps them form becoming a free, open society where dissent is allowed. China is the same. Communism tends to do that to a people. It strips away their culture and soul, makes them slaves to the state, and the state is God.
sohei75 2 years ago
And by the way, your English is almost incomprehensible.
sohei75 2 years ago
And one more thing griparbelli. I give far more of a belssed shit about the people who died in the famine than any person who continues to admire or support Mao ever could.
sohei75 2 years ago
Eventually, the official motorcade drives him to the foot of the Eiffel Tower, where Brezhnev finally stares up in amazement and astonishment. He turns to his French hosts and asks in bewilderment: "But, Paris is a city of 9 million people... surely you need more than one watchtower?"
sohei75 2 years ago
Leonid Brezhnev pays a state visit to France and he's given a VIP guided tour of Paris. He's conducted round the splendours of the Élysée Palace, but remains as stony-faced as ever. He's shown the masterpieces of the Louvre, but the curators fail to get any reaction out of him. He's taken to the Arc de Triomphe, but displays not the slightest interest.

LadyEmilyElizabeth
if u want know anything of Mao, you can start reading " the little Red book" if u don' t want to read the 5 volumes of his collected work.
Not a Commie ,
but an honest man.
griparbelli 2 years ago
Edgar Snow is not as simple a figure as you state. Many believe he was highly biased and far too close to Mao. He is critisized for his reporting on the famine caused by the great leap forward. Everyone has a bias of one kind or another. I personaly really liked the work of Chang and Halliday, even if people with a more favorable view of Mao might dismiss their work.
sohei75 2 years ago
I've no time to answer u now: I'll do in due course.
Jang& Hallyday, two former fanatical maoist, are a ludicrous scandal in theyr fonts: for ex they quote (casually) Walesa . What Walesa knows of Mao is a mistery. Any way if u knows as scholar search has to be done u understand immidiately their bogus : a scandal.
Good for Breznev, for Bush for stopkilling in Tibet. But not for a serious person.
griparbelli 2 years ago
sohei,
E.Snow never wrote anything about GLF famine, if u know what u are talking about.
And it's also clear why.
griparbelli 2 years ago
Apparently YOU are the one who doesn't know what you are talking about. He wrote in one of his books, The Other Side of the River, that there wasn't really a famine. He was too close to Mao and Zhou Enlai, he took them at there word that there was no food problem. There actually was.
sohei75 2 years ago
Elisabeth,
I don't want anything.
To start knowing Mao historical figure by reading Jang&Hallyday (2 ex fanatical Maoist); it is like if a child asks Who God is? and u answer : read (about him) the Black book of Satana worshippers, so u can understand who God is.
It this serious?
A historician would do this way?
Any way I am in my hollidays.
I will answer to u only when at home again.
griparbelli 2 years ago
He saved the name of Socialism.
When Socialism was dieing under mummies like Breznev, Usak, Kadar and other kings.
Till he was alive nobody (in West as well as in East ) dared to slur him, this eagle who fought many monsters, as mainstream cowards do today.
He was the chief Rebel against "new and old czars.
He told to us " Throw the Emperor off his horse".
He was the youngest among us.
He led rural people (80% of China) and took them as a base for a whole China&World transformation.

The everage mortality rate of those years was 18.14‰, and the highst was 25 ‰, lower than any year before 1949! The mortality rate rised indeed a lot, but only for bad economy and medical care! No Socialism is the problem never the solution.
Socialism creates bigger government which equals more corruption and taxes.
Socialism eats up wealth and empowers the state. Free markets and good policy combined with a small government is better than anything.

AManicPreacher 3 years ago
Depends what country you're talking about?
kkklownknight6699 3 years ago
True, the exploiting nations certainly benefit from the free market, as do especially the capitalists.
There is something important to note here about the empowering of the state: If the state, holding all the economical power, doesn't represent and act in the direct interests of the people, it isn't really socialism; classes can't exist within socialist society.
A big government that acts out the wishes of its people is a far better and more democratic government than a small powerless one.

Some day you'll realise
fuckapotomis 4 years ago
Mao did good, he did bad. But even Deng Xiaoping and Liu Xiaoqi were for the GLF at the beginning. False reporting covered up a whole lot of things that were going wrong. These leaders really believed that China would catch the West in living standards just a few short years. Sounds crazy to Westerners for sure. But China did not have a scientific revolution-they did not know better.Read about the 'cargo cult' effect. That best explains Mao and the GLF.

That is fair judgement.

mao zedong is slightly misunderstood because when he first began reading communism, it was still very new and when he saw his great leap failed, he allowed citizens to criticize him as long as it was not going to cause riots or vandalism and even allowed chinese citizens to leave china if they wanted, and come back any time they wished to help get the chinese industry going. if it were not for mao, kruschev would of done this stupid cold war but mao refused to do a nuclear war.

This is quite accurate, to my surprise in a way, though.

This is a very good attempt at being objective. You can't tell the full story in 2 minutes, but nice try.

normaly if you kill like 5 people you get labeled a "mass murderer" and get executed.
But if you kill like 50 million in the name of Communism, you get labeled a "Great Revolutionary" and get worshiped like a God.

Very interesting and thought-provoking.
This has inspired me to learn more about Chairman Mao.
