It probably would have been easier to fill the canteen w/ the dirty h2o, put the filter in the canteen and then suck that shit. It would also obviate the whole drinking spit water thing.

Some water tablets/filters take care of protozoa, but not bacteria or viruses. Chlorine Dioxide tablets kill Crypto, Giardia, bacteria, and viruses (if you can wait the full 4 hours). Rumor is that a lot of iodine can be bad for you on long trips, some are allergic, or just hate the taste. ClO2 is just another option.

-Kills viruses in 15 minutes

-Kills Giardia in 30 minutes

-Kills Cryptosporidia in 4 hours

Boiling kills everything and takes roughly 10 minutes.

Dude take it from a Special Forces ,Ranger...you do not wanna be just sucking down swamp water....it will catch up with you and possibly kill you....them little bugs can turn into a MAJOR problem really fast...think about it .....survival usually doesn't include a doctor or hospital anywhere near your little or big bugout.

Aluminum is better. You can boil water in it.

That works for just drinking it.

What if you want to pour the water in something, like to mix a drink or hydrate food.

It's good to do the work up front, so you are prepared for later.

I like to be able to chug water when thirsty too.

I have the same filters that I use as a last resort. I have thought about using the drink spit approach to filling up the canteen, but have never had to use it. Good vid. It is warm up there now. Get out and make those vids. LOL
