I wish she hadn't discouraged everyone from crying. What's wrong with crying when someone close to you is about to die? I think it's stronger to cry than to not cry in this sort of situation. People need to grieve their losses, so that they can truly move forward later on.

@bigjoetube thats the way it was back then, and she wanted them to focus on the time she had left, instead of spending it sad and crying. They would cry enough after she was gone, she wanted them to remember the good times.

i can't understand why Mrs. Sanderson says some people don't know her, and why she says Charles knows the folks better than her. Charles says her husband helped him many times and Charles hasn't been there long,so I assume the Sandersons have been there longer so folks should know her better probably than Charles.

i love how Charles comforts Caroline, he rubs her shoulders, and she always touches his hand in response. You don't see such acting nowadays, they really act like a true married couple that has had to endure hardships and joys.

When she says to John Jr, that your crying for yourself, it means that your crying because you are going to miss me. it's usually the reason we cry when the person is gone. We miss them terribly but they don't miss us.

I didnt think John Jr was not crying for himself at all.. He was crying cause he just gotten the news about his mother dying. How can you not cry on news like that?

That's something to remember. When you cry at funerals, you believe you're loved one is in hell, or you're crying for yourself.

What a burden to bear, it really is heartbreaking. However, she is so very lucky to have a window in which to make plans for her children. It may be an awful task, but at least she has a chance to try and do things well.
