  • was always my favourite b-side

  • Love the ending to this.. sounds like the voices :)

  • oh, baby, burn !

  • my poor nicaraguan father works in one

  • In my opinion, this should of replaced "Sulk". I love The Bends, but hate that song.

  • @mgnewage479 this should have replaced high and dry

  • @VILFRID44 Yeah cool; by the way, it's not that I dislike Black Star, I'd just rather have Lewis or Maquiladora on the album. I guess I see how you could see it that way, but I disagree. I like Iron Lung a lot more than Creep. I find there's more to it musically and lyrically.

  • @VILFRID44 I share your disinterest with Sulk and Nice Dream, and I could understand Bulletproof, but My Iron Lung is easily one of the best tracks. I don't really get what more you could ask for on that album. Do you like The Bends (the song)?

  • the end of the chorus sounds really minimalist... well, to me anyway :D

  • Grass is green at the edge of the bubble

    Beautiful kids into beautiful trouble

  • I could totally imagine myself in 1997 rocking out to this. It would have fit right in.

  • ma è bellissima mai sentita!

  • If you planned once to speed up you car on a wide road, just listening to this song at max level, thumbs up

  • this song could've easily replaced songs like black star or sulk on the album...

  • @realrockriddim I know right? Same with Lewis (Mistreated). That and Maquiladora should have replaced Black Star and Sulk.

  • this song has been around since 1988 XD

it was on their 'on a friday' demo

  • this should be have been on the bends!

  • people can do stupid things.....like not putting "lewis and Maquiladora" on the bends.

  • people can do stupid things......like talking 'bout Muse in a Radiohead's video o.O

  • I love this song!(: my boyfriend showed me these songs and since then, i have loved Radiohead but i really love this song alot

  • 2:22

  • Is it just me or did Thom Yorke's voice sound a lot better/likeable back in the days of Pablo Honey and The Bends?

  • @majhankee just you mate :)

  • Comment removed

  • Honestly, if they had put Maquiladora and Lewis in The Bends, it probably would have been boosted up on the greatest albums charts of all time, maybe insted of being 111th greatest it would have been maybe 60th. Two great songs can make that difference.

  • If I wwere in the band, and we were jamming this for the first time, I would've been stoked that we'd wrote it. I'd be like 'This will be huge!!!'

So shocked it didn't get more publicity.

  • What does maquiladora mean?

  • @godsmistake01 Wikipedia is your friend :)

  • @godsmistake01 it's like a factory, (not sure)

  • most bands are going downhill after their first album, including muse. but radiohead just seems to keep going uphill. i wonder what they will sound like if they ever reach the top

  • Muse didn't sell out. if you take that logic, then Radiohead sold out to Twilight and so did Paramore

  • this is more than music i am just wordless i cant elieve radiohead is the best of the best. this makes others bands shit. i just dont know what to say im speechless.

  • What!? How have I been a Radiohead fan since Pablo Honey and not heard this!? It freakin rocks!

  • I think the fact that Muse finds its way onto so many radiohead videos and the fact that radiohead rarely makes its way onto muse proves how amazing of a band Muse is that we have to convince ourselves that its worse than radiohead.

I'm obviously troling but its the truth

  • @veryhighsamurai *Facepalm*

Your argument fails so badly it's difficult to describe. -.-

  • @LMA0NAISE just try to dismantle it with reason :)

  • @veryhighsamurai By your logic, that would make Justin Bieber the greatest musician on earth...

  • @shishera1 ya but no one actually argues that he is a good musician all over the place hes just an easy target of pop culture. people aren't like "muse made 50 accounts to dislike this" they're like "muse is a pretty good band" there's a difference

  • Blue and white birds stepping hard on the pedal, Interstate Five runs straight down the middle and it seems to fall out of the sky and come down on you. Oh baby, burn.

  • Here it comes, here it comes. I can feel the hills exploding. Exploding gracefully. Burning up the freeway. Here it comes. Grass is green at the edge of the bubble. Beautiful kids into beautiful trouble. Well it seems to fall out of the sky and come down on you. Oh baby, burn. Fast Toyota, burns rubber. Useless rockers from England. Good times had by all. Just swallow your guilt and conscience.

  • I still have faith in Muse, they will persevere.

  • OMFG THE SOLO!!!!

  • how the hell did this NOT end up on pablo honey or the bends?

  • The minimum wage for the border region is highest at 49 pesos per day. The average starting wage for most maquiladora workers is 110 pesos per day, with workers who stay for more than 3 months realizing a significant increase.[citation needed] Mexico has a 48 hour work week, with employees receiving a full day of pay on Sunday. Additionally, Mexico has a socialized medical system which every employer must pay into, social security, severance pay, paid holidays, mandatory bonuses and child care.

  • Not only do I love Radiohead's music because of their uniqueness and depth, but I love how political and intelligent it is.

  • Radiohead is probably the only band that does not have a weak track (let's just ignore pablo honey)

  • @Vidhole What about Creep? Actually wait that's on pablo honey. Sorry :P

  • this is a b-side?? damn

  • Omfg stfu about Muse.

  • the title sounds like a spanish soap opera... Antonio Banderas voice: Maquiladora...

  • @danielmarc08 actually a Maquiladora is a factory that usually lies on the border between mexico and the United States. They hire young female workers to work on the assembly of american goods.

  • @BattonofDeath thanks for letting me know that.

  • radiohead reminds me of christianity, the followers/fans tend to bring it down.....great song though

  • @unicorn4sure i agree with this statement...comming from a catholic obsessed with radiohead

  • i wouldnt say muse sold themselves to the industry, maybe their new album is their plan b... to "conquer" the masses, open their eyes "sacrificing" themselves(not entirely of course), i respect them too much to accept a possible "turning away", besides their lyrics are quite obvious, they want to save us lol (yay), be part of the awakening, this is all about passing the message...imo at least...i might just be completly wrong

P.S but i still prefer the radiohead awakening

  • jonny doesn't wake on guitar , he explodes on it.

  • yeah poor muse, they've become frustratingly shite..

  • is that someone speaking in tongues at the end?

  • I honestly didn't like the first 45 seconds or so... then it got pretty epic!!!

  • muse upset me, I loved them when they had their own sound, but their newest album is just a missmatch of.... well, queen, justin timberlake and phil colins, really. Exogensis saved it.

Love Radiohead though- they've done every album with a tottally differnt sound, and its still a Radiohead sound.

  • @blackblackgrey Yes, Sadly but true. And worst of all they became a "Twilight" band since they've been featured in all the soundtracks of this crappy movie and it's seems for the rest of the coming movies.

Thought sometimes these soundtracks got good music (Even Thom Yorke was featured in the last one) But Muse already sold out themselves to the market and forgot about their original fans u_u

  • @inferneko

To be honest I don't mind about bands putting music to twilight... I don't like all the bloody raving fangirls that seem to spread all over my beutiful internet when they do, but I've nothing against them putting their music to the films... but I actually thought resistance was a joke on my behalf until I heard exogensis and realised they took it seriously... I agree, they sold themselves to the market. Have you heard their track for the new twilight? its flaming terrible....

  • @blackblackgrey No I haven't but just because I still consider them I look up for their new material, but I keep in mind that they're not going to bring something like "Sunburn" or "Space Dementia" again, but oh well, thank god Radiohead knows how to create unique pieces of music and I enjoy each and everyone of them :]

  • @blackblackgrey I guess you're talking about Neutron Star Collision....the cheesiest song EVER, cheesy chords, cheesy melodies, cheesy solo like Resitance a bit, however for the moment I love hearing new Radiohead songs like Present Tense, the Harry Patch I think it's really exciting cause I love those

  • @blackblackgrey Thom Yorke probably loved the Twilight series... maybe that's why :D

  • @inferneko they're not a "twilight" band.

  • @inferneko In Rainbows is amazing, and still has an incredibly distinctive sound. Are you honestly telling me that you're not in love with Weird Fishes? What about Nude? That sound like Justin Timberlake to you? It's only a few steps away from The Bends. The reason so many people have this "they were better in the old days" thing about Radiohead is because they either a) have this misguided feeling that they just ought to, or b) they're scared of changed. Either reason is stupid. I <3 Radiohead!

  • @lifeinsepia ooohhh weird fishes....thats an amazing song if you ask me

  • @lifeinsepia I find the production horrid on In Rainbows - maybe I just like the fuller sound/electronic like amnesiac, Kid A etc. In saying that, OK Computer is mostly same instrumentation and their tones are much better. I still like In Rainbows...don't worry.

  • @inferneko Well I love both radiohead and muse with my whole heart (radiohead a tad more) but the discussion about forgetting the original fans I believe is invalid in this case. Radioheads latest for example has gone to a very electronica way and taking away the guitar sound I do love a lot (I also enjoy the new album though) I think the bands should do exactly what music they want, they should not really take notice about what the fans want musically, more in the way of live performance.

  • @swedenxtrem

    Nice comment. I completely agree.

  • @blackblackgrey when did muse ever have their own sound?

  • @blackblackgrey i love the second part of your comment :)

  • The Atoria Version is SOOOOOOO Much better. It's insane. And that says something, because this still rocks.

  • This reminds me of some of the heavier Jeff Buckley material. Fantastic, rocking Radiohead.

  • @termsofusepolice

If only he had lived. Would've been 100x better than Dylan, Springstein.

  • just fucking perfect

  • I have this B-side :D along with alot of others :)

  • I could see this being on The Bends... it's one of their best. :D

  • Thom, you seduced me all over again <3<3<3

  • jonny is one hell of a guitarist

  • I find p1nkgrapefruits' comment witty and informative.

  • wow, i'll wake n bake to this!! long time fave!

  • i miss the 90's

  • agreed

  • They just played a session of this on 6Music, had to listen again.

Great song, great radio station too.

  • The only time Radiohead should be mentioned in the same sentence as Muse (other than this sentence :P) is when you are talking about Muse. If you are talking about Radiohead then Muse shouldn't even be thought about. Radiohead created Muse but Muse are nothing to Radiohead. I DO like Muse alot though, but Radiohead are on another plane of existence - that's how far apart they are.

  • Muse are probably my favourite band having grown up with them in the 00s rather than Radiohead in the 90s. However, I have to agree. When looking at why Muse are so popular, you have to say that a massive part of that reason is the existence of both RATM and Radiohead, probably the two best bands of the 90s. I think Radiohead and Muse are both amazing, but in more different ways that many people assume.

  • rage against the machine has noting to do with this....... -.-

  • @childofthesun32 SO true

  • @childofthesun32 Well put. I wouldn't say they "created" them by any means, but without Radiohead there VERY likely wouldn't be a Muse.

Kind of like the butterfly affect, but in a much more obvious and straightforward way. Lol

  • the majority of maquiladora employees are women.Women are considered to be preferred to men because women will typically work for cheaper wages, and are easier for male employers to direct. Some maquiladora operators have admitted a preference for women also because women often display a greater level of patience and higher dexterity than men in performing the standardized and repetitive work of an assembly plant.

  • This is on their 4th demo tape.

  • @dangeroftime

Almost. it's called Shindig and features the same guitar parts, but different lyrics.

  • Radiohead IS the jizz...

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, hahah.

  • kick ass

  • yeah it's one of my favorite radiohead b-sides as well...if not my very favorite...good choice!

  • omg it's unbelievable how awesome this shit is!one of my fav radiohead tracks

  • Holy crap, this should have fuckin been on the album or at least an EP. Only 2 youtube vids of this song?! Blasphemy!

I heard this while watching the live at Astoria concert video, i didn't realise how obscure/rare it was until i searched it up :(

    Makes me upset :(

  • But Don't worry, they re-released lately all the Radiohead albums packed along with the singles, so you can have all the Radiohead goodness of the b-sides and rare tracks at once. It's a lot easier now to find these tracks than few years ago.

  • yeah but the maquiladora from the second cd of the bends 2-disker is a bbc radio recording session version still sick though. and sounds actually alot the same

  • What? my version of "The Bends" has the original version of it. Track 7.

  • @PantheonLincoln if you're not lying, do you know how much that must be worth?

  • @inferneko Which I think really sucks from a collectors point of view (few?)

  • Best radiohead b-side! Should have really made it onto The Bends or My iron lung EP

  • how i made my millions is a great b side, take a listen

  • I have the whole Astoria show on my profile in HD if you want to watch it. Video owner, link it in the description :P!!

  • Just found this today on my itunes haha... what a great track!

and please have some respect for radiohead and stop mentioning them in the same sentance as muse guys... come on ;)

  • hate when that happens

  • all of muse's songs sound the same :S

  • I disagree with you sir D:

  • well mostly all of em

  • Especially Blackout and Yes please

  • radiohead is the best band ever!!!!radiohead fucking rules!fucking muse are fucking good but not as fucking good as radiohead!i cant fucking get radiohead out of my fucking head!fuck!

  • I think this is a bloody good song and too good for a B side and not good enough for the Bends, its stuck in limbo. I'm surprised this didn't end up on My Iron Lung.

  • Radiohead with distortion

  • Muse are a shit radiohead

  • Radiohead and Muse are both very great bands.

  • this song was written before Radiohead were even called Radiohead. The song used to be named The Greatest Shindig. look it up, it has a completely different chorus. this version is better

  • Wow! never knew that, thanks for the data, I should check it out :]

I can believe this song was so old, also I like Radiohead in their "On a Friday" days.

  • I can't find this song you talk about.

  • I always loved this song except the ending of the chorus, the singing after the pause.

  • This sounds like a Muse song!

Glad i bought the collectors edition.

  • muse sounds like early radiohead

  • Yea, i am able to enjoy both Radiohead and Muse.

  • same here!

  • yea. the only difference being that radiohead evolved from their earlier more primitive music, whereas muse did not.

  • radioheads better than muse. muse was good but i got over it fast

  • Very true.

  • agreed

  • @xXKyoushiroXx I agree. No one will ever get over Radiohead though.

  • Can anyone tell me what it says at the end of the song, i can hear this voice it seems like it's been played in reverse or something?.

  • can someone explain why this is a b-side?

  • It just means it's a song that didn't make it onto a studio album either because it was deemed not good enough or because it didn't match the vibe or theme of an album. For some bands that means it's not a very good song. But for Radiohead many of their b-sides are just as good as, if not better than, the album tunes.

  • just like oasis

    check out The Masterplan album

it is almost an atrocity for the gallaghers to have left out some of those songs

radiohead is the only other band i can say the same for

  • Great song.

  • For some reason, I love the second verse between 1:20 and 1:47. Maybe its the chorus and the other fills.

  • yeah man its wicked.

  • I feel such a mix of genres from this song. So awesome!

  • the version played lived at the astoria in 94 is way better imo

  • source?

  • yeah a maquiladora is a factory for multinational corporations that exploit developing countries.

    "Fast Toyota, burns rubber

    Useless rockers from England

    Good times had by all

Just swallow your guilt and your conscience"

that's part of the lyrics, and Toyota is one of the largest MNCs

  • thanks

  • what a song.....

  • maquiladora means makeup artist in portuguese

  • no it doesn't...

  • lol it actually does...

  • maquiladora it´s a kind of third world factory that´s produces goods for biggest brands around the world...

  • test

  • wow...great song

radiohead have to have the best b sides ever...

some of there b sides could be hits for other bands

  • yes maybe together wit bloc partys b-sides^^

  • bloc party does have some great b sides

  • One of Radiohead's best solos I have to say.

  • 1:00/3:29

    *hits favorite*

  • Can someone tell me if there is a CD or compilation that has this? The only place I know to find it is the High and Dry Single... did they ever put it on any other cds?

  • Mhhh, I've only know from some singles for The Bends, but theres no other official record that includes this track.

But don't worry, it's easy to find in p2p clients and also, if you're a collector, is easy to buy a single, many became easy to buy too :3

  • Yeah, I used to have an mp3 that I got through Limewire, but I lost a bunch of those when I reformatted my computer and wanted to hold out until I could actually find the cd or something. But this reminds me how much I love this song, so I think I'm going to go look for it again.

  • there IS, in fact, a radiohead CD i own, Lost Treasures 1993 - 1997,

which is almost all their b-sides and hidden gems packed into a 2-disc set

    pure unadulterated bliss

  • Wow, where did you get it? never heard of it before o_O

  • Flashback to 1997. I've always loved this one. :)

  • Thanx for posting this up!

  • good song.

ive only got their albums, so ive not heard their B'sides (except for the In Rainbows 2nd CD)

  • They got a quite big collection of B-sides for theirs albums (Except for Kid A), and I think I've collected almost all of them, yay XD

You should listen to some of those songs if you have time.

  • i need to find out what all the songs are...

  • Just search 'Radiohead b-sides'
