Also to have her saying that the 'drugs' took over is such a poor excuse for her not being able to restrain herself from even taking it in the first place. It isn't possible for someone to be 'addicted' to the drugs itself, very much like being 'addicted' to tobacco. Plus, Oksana has more of a real emotional problem than do Nicole. Model athletes don't use drugs as an excuse to try to destroy themselves and their career.

40 years ago when I skated, we didn't speak openly like this. I wish we did. Myself and other skaters then had our own issues with drugs, but things were always kept quiet...even if and when we did seek treatment.

She let the drugs take control over her. There is simply no excuse for Nicole Bobeck. Oksana Baiul, on the other hand, had trouble dealing with the death of her mom, so she expressed her pain through the abuse of drugs and alcohol. I don't blame Oksana Baiul. She was more a victim than what Nicole Bobek is currently being described as, a drug abuser.

I loved her photo spread in Vouge back in the day, used to love watching her skate.

Meth seems more addictive than crack/cocaine for some reason. I think this was the same drug the girl from Full House took, Jodie Sweetin.

I wish Nicole the best, she could still have a great career as a skating coach

@victoriaindigo I totally agree with you. she can still have a career as skating coach. she was one of the best looking figure skaters then I guess drugs just took over her life. it's really sad to see her face like that now. drugs are part of the sleazy side of life like prostitution, sex trade, etc. I hope young people learn from her mistakes.

I just thought it was dumb that they chose to show a double Lutz she did from 1993. If anything, why wouldn't they choose to highlight her Triple Lutz/Triple Toe Loop from the 1995 Worlds. That was one of the first times that combination was performed in competition by a woman.

i actully met nicole when she was sent to do community service in fl last yr. she help teach the special olympics skaters for a bit(my husband and i are special skaters too) and made our routines for the se regionals. . she is very sweet and realized that she screwed up. she deserves to be a human and be treated like one. no matter what we love nicole, as a skater and friend! and i know you can stay strong just find the will:)

actully i got the awsome oppertunity to meet nicole! she has an enormous heart and loves helping others. she is alot like me in many ways. weve both delt with pressure and tough times in our lives, and i unfortunatly did meth in my past. mybest friend from highschool overdosed and it was a real wake up call for me. i actully got involved in skating about 10 yrs ago and i love every moment of it :)

@beilmann2008 : absolutely. That is an effect of mehtamphetamine. It is a very common, unfortunately. Unless you have bookoo money, like MacKenzie Phillips, it's not fixable.

@pinto89100 Heath Ledger reportedly died from prescription drug toxicity of 5 different drugs, and it was reported Britany Murphy who I may have confused with K.H. had died because of nonprescription drugs. Although others say it was pneumonia and that non prescription drugs had weakened her system, I wasn't medical examiner and not sure how reliable tv and internet news are so is only what I have heard and read about, can't say as an absolute fact, sorry if any confusion.

Im very proud of Nicole how she is taking responsibility about her life. She has really grown up. I always loved her skating but not always her effort to the best skater. But she has come a long way since then and i admire her enormous and wish her all the best from now on. She still has the same grace and elegance on the ice and off ice a real mature warm lady!!

My cousin is addicted to meth. It's not acne scars -- be warned everyone: That's what meth does to your skin. It causes ulcerations that itch, and the tearing from scratching leaves scars. It rots your teeth from the roots (meth mouth). It ruins beauty. Period. She can get the skin fixed.  I'm not sure about her soul.

@fatherfabulous Hi---I just had to respond to your comment re Nicole Bobek. like you, I have loved ones addicted to meth. You are right, we are not looking at acne scars. One of my cousins has been clean for 3 years 7 months, and she will always be an addict, but she just tries day by day to stay clean. Scars on skin are one thing, but as you say so aptly, other scars go so much deeper. Best wishes re your cousin. This will be a lifelong challenge. I wish Nicole well.
