  • What snare is been used in this:)? Anyone know accurately ?

  • may i just say, the queens of the stonage song was a song for the DEAD, the album was song for the deaf, but still i agrre with everything (else) you said

  • dont forget he drummed for TENACIOUS D !!!

  • this is strange to me... dave grohl is the foo fighters drummer, guitarist, and vocalist?

  • @Mrgoodfella2468 He played virtually everything on the Foo Fighters' first record, save for one guitar part. On the second, he played most of the drums, one of the guitars, and sang. Since then though, he's pretty much just been a guitarist/vocalist for the band.

  • Ohno!! did he really compare Grohl to Bonham? dear lord....

  • @therickmon1 I can understand what you mean in a way, but have you heard any of Them Crooked Vultures' stuff? That's definitely got groove.

  • Sorry guys, can't seem to feel Dave Grohi as a drummer. Makes a lot of noise and body movements which excites a lot of people, but that's about it. He's technique has no style

or signature. In fact, I like the guy in this video much better. Oh yeah, I'm a drummer of 30 years. Guys like John Bonham had a certain spirit. He can play 2 bars of anything and make you drop what you're doing. Spirit is what's missing in music now. Isn't there enough of this "Mad all the Time" Music????

  • @therickmon1 dave grohl wasnt a taught drummer, he learnt by hitting cushions when he was younger, and before you pass this a bollocks, read one of his biographys

  • Dave did INDEED drum for some of the foo fighter songs, i think he actually redid the entire drumtrack on one cd before letting go of the original drummer

  • what drumset do he use in this dvd,? it sounds wicked!

  • It's really too bad this DVD was made just before Them Crooked Vultures came out. Dave's drumming on their album is great.

  • i love seeing left handed drums like myself, but this dude is a hell of alot better than me :P

  • Does the DVD teach how to develop Dave's stamina? He plays HARD for a long time.

  • whats that song at 1.09

  • @Vidmakr6302 My Hero with Foo Fighters!

  • a song for the dead, not song for the deaf

  • @kevthedrummer You're wrong.

  • @torque102891 No he's right. The guy says "A Song for the Deaf" which is later on the album, the song he's playing is called "A Song For the Dead".

  • dave grohl played all the drums for the first 2 albums except for doll, because it was the only track he liked from that drummer

  • I couldn't find the DVD on the Lickslibrary Store... is it available in the US?

  • @WritingandLiterature Hi there i've updated the link in the description to this video. If you follow that it will take you directly to the DVD to order. Hope that helps!

  • @WritingandLiterature Hi there we've updated the link in the description to this video - so if you follow that you will be able to order to the US. hope that helps.

  • Pete Riley is playing on left hand? Say hi to him.... (from a left hand drummer) :p

  • Yeah, Dave is a LEGEND!!!!!!!!!

  • teen spirit its quarter notes on the high hat.

  • that ride cymbal :P awesome drumming man

  • Fuck you poser kiddys He did play Drums but not on live shows Mofuckers

  • you don't have grohl power

  • he's right grohl played all the instruments in the first album i believe. he actually split recording with Taylor hawkins on the later albums as well.

  • Chorus of Teen Spirit is not played well... this dude plays 4/4 on hihat and is 2/4. Touche!

  • Sully played all the drums on Godsmack's first disc as well.....

  • Wow I've never seen a left handed drum set. Weird.

  • dave ghorl is not foo fighters drummer

    he was nirvan's drummer .

and he played in queens of the stone age

  • @wayne1515 Dave did play the drums on the studio recordings of 'Monkey Wrench' and 'My Hero'

  • @licklibrary

He redid drums for the whole colour and the shape album. the old drummer was suffering from carpel tunnel and dave wasn't satified.

  • @licklibrary

He redid drums for the whole colour and the shape album. the old drummer was suffering from carpel tunnel and dave wasn't satified.

  • @licklibrary haha licklibrary just pwned you... Dave played drums on the first two foo albums :D i have the taylor hawkins and dave grohl dvd and they are awesome by the way!

  • @licklibrary as a matter of fact dave grohl played every instrumemt on the self titled album and on colour and the shape william goldsmith played doll and the intro to up in arms, but dave finished off the album to make the deadline. taylor hawkins was bought in straight away to promote the album via singles and touring.

  • @jbmboy i like that you're the only person here who has stated anything atleast 98% correct. props.

  • @licklibrary and everlong ^_^

  • @licklibrary few others as well. just about half and all on thier first album

  • @licklibrary I'm pretty sure he did for all of Color & The Shape, according to the Back & Forth documentary.

  • @wayne1515 He did drum for the foo fighters album the colour and the shape though.

  • @wayne1515 True, but he did play drums on the first two albums

  • @DaveGrohlage thats right all the instruments of the album foo fighters voice, bass, guitars and DRUMS was played by him

  • @rtb65

except for one guitar part in one song. forgot what song tho.

dave grohl is a fucking god tho!

  • @wayne1515 Dave Grohl played all the instruments the initial albums of Foo Fighters when the band first started. Later on he added Taylor Hawkins and the rest.

  • @wayne1515 He played drums on the first two albums. He hired Taylor Hawkins after he had finished recording Colour In The Shape.

  • @wayne1515 Dave recorded drums on the first three Foo Fighters albums.

  • @wayne1515 but he did do alot of drum tracks on foo fighters albums.

  • @wayne1515 dave recorded the drums for the foo's first two albuns

  • I know that loads of people are talking about the essence of Dave Grohls drumming but the dvd's are just tutorials that show you how to play the music, not about how to play like DG or any other drummer.

Excellent stuff BTW, dave grohl is my favourite drummer and this will help me no end.

  • It's correct the way he played, but he missed the point of the essence of Dave Grohl.. You must play like if your killing Oxes with a toothbrush... And @DaveGrohl85 is totally right. The playing on Smells Like it's it's wrong. The left hand it´s not right, i don't know how it's said in theory, but he's givin many hits on hit-hat...

  • Some may laugh, but a really challenging album to pick apart and play to is Tears For Fears first album The Hurting.

Manny Elias did an incredible job on that one. Also, check out Echo and the Bunnymen's Ocean Rain. Pete did the entire album with brushes.

Sit down with those 2 albums and you'll agree that they are challenging.

  • Dave grohl wasnt the drummer for foo fighters lol

  • Dave Grohl played the all the drums on the studio recordings of the Foo's debut album 'Foo Fighters' and on most of 'The Colour And Shape' (with William Goldsmith and Taylor Hawkins playing on other tracks on that album)

  • yeah he played the drums and all other instruments on the fist album.. it was really just him.. then he got a band together for touring

  • @mbergy09 Ooh i nevr knew that

  • @licklibrary I like that someone else actually knows this. cheers to being informed

  • he played all the early stuff for the foo fighters

  • @IntoEverythingMusic I'll stick around album version by Foo's is one of his best drumming

  • @santanaincubus

His drumming in "Alone + Easy Target" is really good too, especially the drum fill in the middle of it.

  • @IntoEverythingMusic my friend, get it through your head he recorded drum tracks!! Stop ambushing the lick library artist and pretend you guys know everything!

  • Drumpart from Song for the Dead is epic!

  • Yeah, the intro is fucking insane!

  • awesome drum fills in no one knows, way to go Davey boy

  • At last a left-handed drummer :D I've got someone similar to me ^^

  • Im left handed too lol I like left handed drummer like Dominic Howard cause he rocks

  • very interesting.....

  • left hand in smells like teen spirit is wrong..

  • @DaveGrohl85

And he's not playing the kick drum part correctly, he missed the most complicated part of that beat.

  • yeah lol dude doesnt even know song, that song is song for the dead

  • He probably got it confused with the album man, give him a break.

  • WOO monkey wrench

  • its song for the dead

  • O.o i gotta get this dvd

  • No 8th notes in smells like teen spirit

  • hahaha you're right, just a small detail but indeed incorrect

  • what tipe of cymbals use Dave with nirvana?

  • Zildjian

  • Zildjian

  • Anyone have a lead on the make, model, diameter, and depth of the snare that's being played? It sounds fantastic.

  • a black panther snare? and looks about the same depth as mine (not the same actual snare tho, just the depth) 5-6", and then compared to the 14" hihats im saying its about a 13" snare, the head is remo coated it looks like. hope anyone else can share their opinion on this...

  • uaah the sound of snare won't let me sleep :(

  • dude everybody knows that dave drummed the coulor and the shape therfore he drummed monkey wrench heheeh x

  • Dave Grohl drumming.

The first song is Taylor Hawkins?

  • lol yea but hey taylor hawkins is amazing too

  • NOWHERE near the groove Grohl has.

  • do you mean david grohl or pete riley?? i bet your a young guy whos into lars ulrich right??? as you get older youll enjoy the subtletys of daces druming i promise you

  • ahh well, everyone gets things wrong sometimes, and they are very similarly named songs :P

  • awful drummer

  • Yea the dude who zeppelin was gonna choose if jason bonham couldn't tour real awful drummer dude

  • stop being so negative, its fun that they makes these dvds.

    i like 'em :D

  • i agree

  • dave grohl played drums on "the colour and the shape" so he played drums on monkey wrench...and my hero etc ;)

  • now it makes sence xD i love those songs!!!!

  • It´s actually "song the dead" -_-

  • It's actually "Song for the Dead"

theres also song for the deaf

  • it's actually not that :P

  • sweet set

  • hit the drums harder...

  • its mic'd, no need

  • Why the hell not? How do you here it if it isn't?

  • "song for the deaf"

It might have helped if this guy had gotten the name right. It's "A song for the dead"

  • he gets it the third time lol at 3:01

  • I dunno why everyone is giving you thumbs down. You're right...

  • actually theres a song called a song for the deaf and a song for the dead on that album

  • shut the fuck up. shut the fuck up shut the fuck up. youre mediocre obsevations are completely un needed. youre that guy that people listening to this song want to beat in the mouth

  • i didnt know that dave was a legend?? O.o

  • He was the drummer for three of the most successful rock bands of the past 20 years, and the singer of one. I think that qualifies him.

  • Thanks man greetings from Georgia USA Really great !!! forget those idiot know it alls man. They r just silly pimples. dont even squeeze em mate. They will bust themselves. A bunch of non playing morons. I really like your teaching God Bless you.

  • this guy is in rythm magazine too isnt he?

  • i know i ment like actually like he playes the guitar in shows lolol

  • dave doesnt even play drums for the foo fighter....

  • Dave played all the drums on the first Foo Fighters album, 'Foo Fighters' some of the drums on 'The Color And The Shape'

  • Comment removed

  • can someone tell me the name of the played songs please!! ?????????

  • -monkey wrenge -foof fighters (first and seconde vid)

    -my hero -foo fighters

    -Songs for the dead -Qotsa

    -Smells like teen spirit -Nirvana

-no one knows -Qotsa (I gues)

-I don't know what song the last song is srry

  • The last song is the outro to Songs For The Dead

  • Last one is the end of of Song for the Dead.

  • what u talking about? This drummer is great. MUST be able to "immitate B 4 U create." Its a Ronnie Hawkins quote. U dont know who he is do U arm chair drummer.? OK I will educate U The Band started with Ronnie Greetins from Tennessee USA

  • Dave, Dave, Dave...!!!

  • This guy can play the tracks ok but is like drumming by numbers - he's got no passion. And he keep referring to 'A Song for the Deaf' when he's actually referring to 'A Song for the Dead'.....

  • no soul man, i totally understand what you mean. The dude doesn't know what he's talking about. A song for the dead isn't even THAT difficult, just listen it a lot and practise. But hey, I'm not on youtube.

  • Dave Grohl is a fucking drum legend you idiot. He's amazing.

  • DAve tehe best !!

He can play drums like a legend, also he can play guitar, bass and sing, including writes he´s own songs !

    so...shut up

  • he also can play piano

    watch foo fighters - home

  • dave grohl is a joke of a drummer if you want to speak on the terms of "lelends." a "drummer legend"? you seriously have to be kidding yourself.

he is nothing more than mediocre. compare him to dennis chambers. dave is shitty raw drumming compared to even him. haha. nothing more than a joke. keep on playing shitty songs, dave. any nirvana song is laughable on drums. google polly drums. haha. fuck you dave grohl, you're pathetic.

  • Grohl has never recorded drums for Polly mate :D and he is amazing, id like to see how you play drums

  • He did mate. It was called Polly (New Wave) on the Incesticide album

  • YOur a fucking retard! I hope you and your entire family dies tommorow! Especially your whore, cunt of a mom!

  • Dude, what the fuck?

There aren't any drums to polly aswell. I love Dave Grohl's drumming, but arguing about which of two drummers is better is like saying which of two painters is better. Its ridiculous.

  • ignorance is bliss

  • if i saw you tomorrow i would actually suffacate you with my foo fighters poster

  • sloppy hertas at 3:26

    bleh...

  • nice vid, whats that cymbal on the left?

  • They're all Zildjian A Customs. Looks like a 16" or 17" on the left.

  • Well, The foo's have some really good music,

and they grown very good these last years.

Dave always kicked some major ass,

and nice about the 90's was drums was allot 1basspedal oriented and a bit funk patterns on the hats..

    Good vid.

  • this guy has got really good control and technique. He's not flailing around like an idiot coming down from a crack-cocaine high because of that. If he wanted to look cool and edgy, he could do it, and sound great.

    people are stupid.

  • John Bonham? Why people like this old dude so much? Both his band and his playing suck. Led Zeppelin's only good song was Immigrant song...

  • You obviously know nothing about the drums. Bonham is one of the top 5 drummers of all-time. Dave thinks so as well, hence the bonham tattoo he got before he joined nirvana, and the two cover bands he played when he was in Scream; Dead Zeppelin & The Zeppelin Brothers.

If anyone thinks John Bonham can't play, listen to the song "achilles Last Stand" or any live Zep audio.

  • your stupid led zeppelin hardly had a bad record or song

  • the drum part on Goog Times Bad Times is very good. tough quick bass drum work that sounds to me like its done using one bass drum pedal only (hi-hat is pedalled in quavers at this point also).

  • Yo on your "Drum Legends Dave Grohl" comment.."this old dude.." ehh get a musical education..before you open your mouth dickhole!

  • song for the dead isn't hard at all

No One Knows is fucking beastlike

and yeah he looks really stiff.

  • this guy is a great drummer!!!!!!!!!

  • He's a good player, and hits all the notes and stuff.

But, i think what makes Dave an awesome drummer is he proper gets into it. This dude looks as stiff as an ironing board. Just coz its all technically right, don't make it good.

  • Well for a drum lesson, i think its better to keep calm so its easier to watch and understand. If you have a guy going crazy its hard to pay attention to the actual notes being played.

  • none of these songs are from taylor hawkins. What are you talking about? Taylor wasn't even in the band for the recording of The colour and the shape. Dave is on all of those tracks, with the exception of a couple intros to songs that William Goldsmith played before he was gone.

Song for the dead isn't hard to play, even in it's entirety, but is totally kickass. This guys' performances are pretty sterile though, even if he is playing note for note.

  • Very nice playing!

  • most of the songs are from taylor hawkins stupid

  • dave writes all the parts including the drum parts. taylor hawkins just plays it while dave jams on guitar

  • No they aren't

  • Taylor Hawkins joins the Foo Fighters when The Colours And The Shape are already recorded. With Dave on the drums. So in tracks like Monkey Wrench, Everlong, My hero.. it's all Dave!

  • you are so wrong.

  • For the record, Hawkins joined the bannd in 97

  • don't be silly...it's dave

  • dude he is lefty!!! yeaaa!

  • "favorite track, song for the dead"

    100% agree

most fun song to play on earth :D

  • he said song for the deaf

he doesnt even know the proper name -_-

one of my fave songs ever

  • agreed!

  • A song for the dead isnt too hard to play, i learnt it all after only lsitening to it through twice, and i can play it 100% accuratly....this guy doesnt really give off the "grohl vibe" either...just doesnt have the power there.

  • Does any 1 know where to get songs with out drums on it. I really need to know. thanks.

  • you just re record it

  • He said Song For The Deaf but meant Song For The Dead

  • Dave is my favorite drummer but his parts are honestly kinda easy to play. The only thing he ever made that I couldn't play is that thing from Know What You Are by NIN. This guy is playing Smells Like Teen Spirit wrong like most people do good drummer though. Dave is awesome because he can make the drums as much a part of the song as the guitars without being a showoff. Also he ripped the My Hero beat from the Melvins song Night Goat and the beginning to Song for the Dead from a Black Flag song.

  • I agree, but "Scentless Apprentice" is difficult too.

  • cool...a left handed drummer...

  • Amazing sounding snare drum!!!!

  • to bad dave doesnt drum for the foo fighters lol

  • he did all the instruments for the first Foo cd and im pretty sure the second one too.

  • dave did the drums to i believe 4 of the songs on the colour and the shape

  • you're almost right. Dave did all the instruments for the first foo album, and sings/ plays mainly rythm guitar/ does all tracks bar four for TCATS, i believe, which William Goldsmith did before they had a falling out and left

  • no william did the drums for 4 tracks, and 2 are only part of the song, 1 is a bonus track, and the 4th is "Doll", which doesn't even really count as a song. dave did the drums on every other song

  • All the drums but doll and the beginning to up in arms!

  • he did the whole first two cd's... the self titled and colour and shape.... after the cd was released in 1997 taylor hawkins joined for the colour and shape tour....

  • wonder if he does the same thing as dave grohl in that queensofthestoneage song...where he's doing a nsare roll and you can hear his human limits driven through fiery passion! great stuff

  • If his favourite Grohl song is 'song for the DEAD', you'd think he'd get the name of it right....

  • it's actually called song for the deaf, which he is saying.

  • No, he's playing "A Song for the Dead." He is saying "Song for the Deaf," though.
