  • any psycologist out there I have a question.. Im kind of shy, so do i need to be outgoing to become a psycologist

  • I just realized i wanted to be a psychologist s few days ago

  • I absolutely hate this subject. It is an absurd science that merely explains what we already acknowledge in out subconscious mind and therefore this defeats the purpose for even having the subject. Also, I'd like to point out that psychology is highly unreccomened for those who are looking for a real science to specialize in. Moreover, it is well explained in the job description of clinical psychologists, that in fact all they do is listen to people's dilemna

  • @TheBadbowman WOW...that's so superficial...you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about...please don't let such prejudices overwhelm your thoughts..

  • i m going to study psychology

  • I am now in a bachelors program for a psychology degree and now I am finding that a seperate certification is required for addiction counseling. Why is this so when Psychology covers counseling with it's coures?

  • I think I want to become a Clinical Psychologist, do they help people who have personal issues like a teenage girl who's insecure?

  • @cadettipk yep i think so

  • does being a psychologist have anything to do with body language or reading people?

  • Psychologists and Psychiatrists needs Therapy themselves. This Roman Empire stuff is therapy itself. People don't need brain drugs unless they have brain problems. If they have blood problems you give them drugs only relating to the blood. And a blood drug is a blood drug, not a sleep drug that makes you sleepy. They force you to take drugs that you don't even need. The Death Rate after Psychologist Triples. This Roman Empire Stuff needs to quit.

  • @AnagramISP after completing medical school and receiving their Medical Degrees (M.D.) Medical doctors may choose to further their study at a psychiatric residency for 4 years. Then they may be called psychiatrists. definitely not failed physicians.

  • Clinical psychology is pseudoscience. It will ruin your life, regardless of how you wish to encounter it. If you wish to seek treatment (which is both statistically and practically insignificant) then it can scar your record and ruin a lot of things from job prospects to custody battles (i.e. it sticks with you). If you become a psychologist and you're not an idiot, you will be forced to accept that your only form of income is through defrauding innocent people.

  • @Antipsychiatry123 What a cynical mindset you possess. Don't criminalize the entire field of psychology because you happened to have a bad experience with it. Psychology helps countless individuals with problems ranging from drug addiction to poor self-image. You're either a troll or very naive.

  • @clichesucks

That's not why I'm criminalizing clinical psychology and psychiatry. Both are pseudoscience because they do not rigorously explain any natural phenomena. A good example is depression. If you walk into an office and say, "I'm sad" then you're ill. But this isn't true. Sad is an observation - the first step in science. It can be explained via the null hypothesis. Yet psychiatrists ignore the null and call it an illness. You should research how actual science works.

  • @Antipsychiatry123

Yeah actual science depends on careful analysis of the same event over and over, and yet it says that no two events are ever exactly alike. Quite a paradox, and yet science STILL works. Amazing!

Yes, quite amazing that science STILL works.

Isn't it amazing how it's a paradox yet it STILL works?

btw, psychology cannot and does not claim to explain everything that goes on in the mind, you should probably read up on it.

  • @ArtistsThatSuck

I have no idea what you're talking about and neither does any scientist. You're just rambling nonsense. The only remark worth addressing is the one regarding psychology's lack of a claim to explain everything. But if that's the case, they shouldn't be inventing ever more illnesses and drugging kids. But it's a business, not science. It wants customers which is why it's "lack of an explanation" becomes a very severe problem.

  • @Antipsychiatry123

Hi, excellent work combining psychology with pharmaceutical corporations and shareholders.

    A+

  • @Antipsychiatry123 Let me take you through a quick scenario. John is depressed. John seeks professional help. John spends a few months visiting a trusted psychologist in his area. John comes out of therapy feeling like a new person with a more positive outlook on life.

Where's the problem? I can't find one. You're really going to turn this into a debate of nomenclature? So what if it's not what you refer to as science? If it helps, it helps. That's all it claims to do and all it will ever do.

  • @clichesucks

Well, that's great. But religion also helps people. Should we throw everything we know about science away because, hell, religion is helpful? No of course not. We seek after the truth. And of course, the benefit is something that is actually useful. Of course, apart from being the right thing in and of itself, the fact is that a lot of people have their lives ruined because they walked into a psychiatrists office (or were forced by parents who believed it was science).

  • @clichesucks

You can't find a problem with people making huge sums of money off a scam? Off drugging children to the nth degree because they're being children? If you can't find a problem, then why are you bothering me? It's not my fault you don't see an ethical dilemma. The fact is it's not science. If you want to make an argument that pursuing fairy tales is moral, then that's a much more subjective question and i can't help much. I would assume it would be obvious that it's wrong.

  • @Antipsychiatry123

    Psychologists can prescribe

  • @Antipsychiatry123

    psychologists can't* prescribe

  • Iv'e seen a psychologist for 7 years and I would be honest and say that half the time therapy hasn't done much for me...but its risk free unlike psychiatry where all these drugs have done is cause me suffering.

  • can an introverted person fits to take up clinical psychology?

  • That is a beautiful thing to actually love what you do and making a difference in a person life for the better...Very Inspiring

  • Some of the questions regarding wage are absolutely stupid. Get a grip and do your research.

  • are Polish psychologists welcomed in the UK? Is it hard for forigners to get a job in this field?

  • Is anyone studying psychology in the UK at the moment? What's it like?

  • its beautiful.

  • psychology A levels reallllly goood (Y) interesting and not particulaly hard =)

  • naa hun you need a degree in psychology then a masters then in your own time go or your PHD

  • ok thanks!

  • if you want to study to become a psychologist ( as in with a phd), would you need to study chemistry??????

    please help !

  • yes and no... depending on your specialty. There are many different types of psychology (i.e. sports psych, clinical, ...)

  • no chemistry is more psychiatry related i think because you have to go to medical school, psychologists study psychology and maybe even sociology

  • no you wouldn't. bio would be the best are you in the UK or USA?

  • I know that some psych grad programs require that you have taken some chemistry and/or biology, and calculus to apply to the progam. But, not all are like that. I'm sure it depends on what field in psych you want to study.

  • i beg to differ psychologist are people who can hedlp people with their everyday problems. People are not always comfortable to talk with their family about their personal issues. psychiatrist give their patients medicine to change their actions. its not always necessary to assign a diagnostic for a disorder. a patient just need someone who willl listen and give good advice.

  • Psychologists are the most highly trained psychotherapists. Psychiatrists treat with medicine. Not all mental health issues are organic, so medicine is not always appropriate treatment. Psychologists can make as much money as they want. There are countless career opportunites beyond "hanging a shingle." Money is not limted by a degree, but by the degee holder.

  • @pbunting Well said!

  • @pbunting hmmmm i like that

  • What a nice man.

  • psychiatrists must have an MD, clinical psychologists must have a Psy D. Psychiatrists make more money; it takes a lot of drive though.

  • i love this job

i am 16 and i am happy that i have a clue as to what i want to do after high school

    but i have one question

i love the job not because of the money but to be able to help people, but do psychologists get enough money to live a good life? like to be able to buy a house a car and still have enough for traveling twise a year????

  • Yes! My parents have friends that are psychologists and they make lots of money and are very rich.

  • Psychologists in my experience do not make a lot of money. Clinical Psychologist earn around 50k-60k a year.

  • Really 50K-60K? I thought their being in private practice or working for clinics etc. that they would be clocking at least 100k

  • when you 1st start out you earn about 20-30k then when your more experienced you can earm about 50-60k when your even more experienced you can make 100k or more

  • yes clinical psychologists do make alot of money for all that to happen. before you gain your phd you will be earing alot of money and will be able to travel and whatever you like their is no rush into getting a phd take ur tym on dat one .. the only dwn side bwt this ur gonna b old when finishing lol but hey its worth it ama do it

  • Hey...so you say, on the road to becomming a Clinical Psychologist, you can still make alot of money??...How??....

cuz to me, it seems like..intell u fully get it, you have to live PISS POOR....i dunno....tell me what you know tho lol, make sure you respond to this question right away..cuz im VERY curious!!...

  • i feel the same way that u do.... so do they earn a lot of money or not?

  • psychologists dont control people in any way, patient go to them to get a better understanding of their problems, the therapy is helpful for most people as they talk about whats bothering them.

the psychologists dont control the patients as that is againsts the ethitcs.

they only give them coping techniques ,reasurance and of course self belief.

  • Very nice info, and very inspiring.

I want to become a Psychologist, because seeing and knowing you truly helped someone is something that money cant buy.

  • To me Psychology is about creating a better life for anyone who has been abused or discriminated. However, Dr. Michael's proffession as an addiction therapist is very helpful and I certainly agree with everything he has said.

  • i still got 4 more years to become a clinical psychologist, i'm on my first year at the university of Malta, i hope i'll do it hehe.

It's such a wonderful thing to know that you made a difference in some person's life.

  • :) I am proud
