@lei3m true that. when Islam came, they teach about how to respect a woman. prior to that, they treated a woman like a slaves. when we we talk about marriage, of course woman is not lesser than a man. BUT, they need to respect their husband. and vice versa. i think because of the lack of knowledge of their own religion, in this case, Islam, they don't know how to deal with this thing. Islam always have the answer. It just the matter you want to find it or not.

@SaiyukiGS Dr Azalina has also said it out loud that membership is voluntary. Don't like it? Don't join. Polygynists should enjoy freedom of association too. Also, I don't quite agree with the translation of ' isteri mithali' into 'the obedient wife'. To my mind its more appropriate to say 'the good wife'. I haven't looked up mithali in a dictionary, it's just a feeling I have.

@SaiyukiGS I don't feel concerned about polygynous families unless it results in a cost to me. I could think of a few possibilities. The family not having enough money to go round that children end up malnourished, lacking good education, or not having access to decent healthcare. Women and children being left without support from husband/father. But then, these problems exist in monogamous-type relationships too.

@thewarr10r No, Islam does not say that. It is just a misinterpretation by women like Dr Azalina. If she bothered to do more research, Islam acknowledges the capabilities of a woman and a man. Marriage in Islam (and to everyone else with common sense, for that matter) means a partnership. Men and women complement one another. Men are not the lord and master.

To think that she herself has accomplished things like accepting her husband's other wife and at the same being obedient to her husband makes her an outstanding woman who can actually show us how being obedient to your relationship is what makes the whole marriage work. But the matter that needs to be addressed is their belief that, while God is the Absolute Power, the husband may do as he pleases as long he thinks it is right. Dr Azalina has some strong points, but the knowledge that she would, methaphorically speaking, accept her husband's decision to purchase a sports car instead of a more convenient vehicle simply is absurd.

Mrs-Obedience-is-the-answer-to everything is forgetting one very important aspect of Islam: The Quran was given as guidance, but God also gave us brains to use. The Quran is like a textbook that gives the reader a general guideline on certain issues, which then can be derived and applied in everyday life with the help of common sense. But like all knowledge, it is useless in the hands of a fool.
