Car insurance is a poor comparison. You are required to have auto ins. only if you own a car and drive, all a voluntary choice. Mandating that a person has to have auto ins even when they don't own a car is more like what the gov't is doing now. Social security is another of the gov't social we know best programs and look where it is. Hope you are not as old as me cuz your SS will be gone by the time you need it, mine will.

Well, I wouldn't be so sure about all working people being able to pay for their own medical expenses. Let's even put aside the fact that the real unemployment rate is probably more like 20% now. Even if you work it really depends on where you live. Take NY for example. About a year ago NY cops for example made something like 28 thousand a year (i dont know if it's still the case). 1-month rent for 1-bedroom apt in Brooklyn or Queens is on avg $1000-$1200. Imagine the rest.:)
@binplhh I agree with you for the most part. But if the ins co. had an entry level, inexpensive coverage plan for those that don't make as much money as others, this would not be a problem. The level of care wouldn't be as great as those that can afford a better plan, but at least they are covered.

Making health care (and by derivation insurance) cheaper is great. This bill doesn't.

Removing the "pre-existing condition" loophole that denied service, for example, regulating changes in rates etc. Those are good things, but there's 2700 pages, and I know for a fact that those parts don't take up more than a third of the bill.

@binplhh Somehow I don't think that our only choices truly are the FED or Putin (or China, or whatever other nation theoretically has the manpower to occupy the US). Sure, China or Russia or hell, our "allies" in NATO or at the UN might move in if all hell breaks loose, but getting rid of the FED doesn't mean that would happen, nor is it a requirement. Even if the worst happens and one of those countries invades, then we fight back. It's not like we lose all our weapons and soldiers in one go

Car insurance is a poor comparison. You are required to have auto ins. only if you own a car and drive, all a voluntary choice. Mandating that a person has to have auto ins even when they don't own a car is more like what the gov't is doing now. Social security is another of the gov't social we know best programs and look where it is. Hope you are not as old as me cuz your SS will be gone by the time you need it, mine will.

You're completely right about the social security, but our social security has been consumed by our last president's Iraq war (Cheyney's Halliburton charging America $100/bag for laundry of our soldiers' uniforms and $40 per can of soda.) These are the guys who stole our social security. I believe Obama is afraid of them and all of the shady people that surround them and thats why he's afraid to cut off their money machine's cables.

It's a hard enough blow for people with all the economy crisis around...people are hurting enough.. Level of anger among the general population must be somehow controlled. @binplhh Well there you have hit on the key note. JOBS. Working ppl can pay for their own ins. with NO gov't intrusion. The ins. companies need to be regulated somewhat to ensure that they do not dictate care levels, but doctors do. Also regulate them on pre-existing, termination of coverage when sick, and make them provide a low cost entry level plan that those who want it can afford.
We can do all these things in this country and we can't fix a simple problem. Pull together ppl.

Well, I wouldn't be so sure about all working people being able to pay for their own medical expenses. Let's even put aside the fact that the real unemployment rate is probably more like 20% now. Even if you work it really depends on where you live. Take NY for example. About a year ago NY cops for example made something like 28 thousand a year (i dont know if it's still the case). 1-month rent for 1-bedroom apt in Brooklyn or Queens is on avg $1000-$1200. Imagine the rest.:)

@binplhh I agree with you for the most part. But if the ins co. had an entry level, inexpensive coverage plan for those that don't make as much money as others, this would not be a problem. The level of care wouldn't be as great as those that can afford a better plan, but at least they are covered.
I just have a terrible problem with supporting those that do not want to work and contribute. Some need help and I gladly pay for this, just not the lazy.

@binplhh The thing is, he's not saving anybody any money. It won't make those crisis moments more affordable. It won't provide jobs, increase production, or even lower the costs of actual treatments and procedures. It mandates insurance, increases taxes, and through the auspices of "cutting costs" reduces the quality and options of health care. Do I want everyone to have access to health care? Hell yes. Making health care (and by derivation insurance) cheaper is great. This bill doesn't.

Removing the "pre-existing condition" loophole that denied service, for example, regulating changes in rates etc. Those are good things, but there's 2700 pages, and I know for a fact that those parts don't take up more than a third of the bill.

2. EVERYONE should have access to QUALITY health care, but not this way.

4. Healthcare change can be written on one page, not 2000.

@tubebandito All he does is READ what other people wrote verbatim. So do you pity the literate? If one simply reads what these people write and then observe their behaviour, it's easy to follow. If they do so continually over decades then it becomes very easy to make projections on the trajectory of their behaviour and thinking. Do you pity people who use logic? Do you believe 2+2=5?

I can't believe this shit. I was up from midnight to 4am watching C-Span. It won 219 to 212. The politicians against it even said that this is communist, socialist and a totalitarian takeover of the healthcare system and is unconstitutional.
