  • I come to youtube to avoid TV's publicity, and what i first find before a beautiful song from my favorite band IS MORE FREAKING PUBLICITY!!!!!! ADSFSDFASDFASDF

  • Gran canzone!!!!

  • The greatest threat to humanity is human greed, we need to transcend fiscal gain and control, we need to stop being cogs in the Rothschilds machine, we need to regain what we were intended for, unconditional freedom.

  • goosebumbs

  • my dad was a huge fan of pearl jam. he showed me what real music was. its bands like this that keep it going. bands that are real. true. bands that interpret life. bands that put their life in their music. this was my dads favorite slng by pearl jam. my dad passed away at the age of 36 on dec. 13, 2011 of stage 4 brain and lung cancer. he was the greatest man to walk this earth and one of the greatest guitarist ever. i love you daddy. i hope they have guitars in heaven. rest in peace daddy.

  • @grimheart13 My condolences.

  • i think he wrote this song thinking in KURT.....as of the other one called off he goes just listen the lyrics

  • @ThePutamadre21 well ... no

  • @ThePutamadre21 Eddie said that Off he goes talks about himself.

  • that feel...

  • eddy´s sad greetins from Argentine

  • one of the best album of the history of rock world

  • I've always loved Jeff Ament's bass explosion around 4:00.

  • @TribuneOfPlebs check also the ones at 4.19 and 4.23, just great.

  • BLISS

  • perfect song

  • Myself i think each album is great, unique & expresses the journey of there music with there experiences...im will allways be a fan of them ,cant wait for there new album to come out.... Standing on all 10...every album has some songs i like more then others but thats an album people tastes of music varies....not here to judge or bicker...just saying!!

  • great bass solo

  • Love this tune!!! I'll never forgot how it sounded live that awesome night in Toronto.

  • This is probably my favorite Pearl Jam album. I know I'm in the minority. It came out when I was in high school, and got me through some hard times. I still play this song when I get depressed or go through bad times and I'm in my thirties now. Pearl Jam helped to save my life when I was a kid, and I mean that.

  • @rivermoonrise I too have No Code as a favorite album - along with with Vitalogy and Binaural (Yes, Binaural!!).

  • eh, What a song.What a band!

  • "Do you see the way that tree bends? Does it inspire? Leaning out to catch the suns rays. A lesson to be applied. "

  • "Do you see the way that tree bends? Does it inspire?"

  • Its band like pearl jam that actually save lives unknownly. Truly an inspiration ^_^

  • bonita cancion

  • This song has helped me through a lot, and hopefully it will help a friend in need as well. Pearl Jam sure has charisma. There's something about just letting loose after looking inside that's magical (i.e. 2:52).

...one more beautiful spot is where Stone comes in at 2:23, just want to put that out there too.

  • ke canzone....magnifica.....

  • i have these lyrics tattooed to my arms

  • @BCgordong i should to as a reminder

  • @BCgordong you must be elastic man

  • God...this song is fucking deep.

  • God...this song is fucking deep.

  • I used to love pearl jam, kinda checked out after yield. Idk why, yield was one of my favorites. Guess I just never made the time, I'd like to catch back up, but theyve put out so much stuff it's almost like where do I start. My favorite album was no code, then vitalogy, then yield.

  • @tcstylist hi, how can you not include ten?????? ha! or rearview mirror??? how old are you? i have been listening to pearljam for 16 years. anything eddie vedder rites is so powerfull. his voice is the best i have ever seen live!! i have seen mick jagger, eddie van halen, lemy, axel rose (dick), dio, dave groll, kings of leon, alice in chains, NIN, goo goo dolls etc etc......... put eddie vedder is still god!! his voice and lyrics are just emotional tear drops

  • @pakmanmanc I'm 31, I've been listening to them since they came out. To me Ten seems like an album full of singles, and some of the others I mentioned it seems like the who album flows and I just listen to the whole thing at once. I'm not trying to rank the albums by any means, just sayin which ones were my favorite. With a band who has so much great material, some good stuff is bound to be left out. And I don't dislike Ten by any means. Maybe I over played it when I was young, idk

  • @tcstylist I'm very much in the same light. Ten is a great album but far from their best work. It's so easy for people to just say Ten is the best and not dig deep and see the soul of each album. No Code has always held a spot in my heart for the passion that is displayed throughout the album.

  • Seems that needlessly it`s gettin` harder.

  • One of the Greatest songs, even though different from their usual style

  • @MARSELIMADHE one of the greatest grubge songs ever, grubge is just against the norm and this is fucking powerful and against the norm. eddie is the only person who could of sang this.

  • i still got my polaroids, teeth, a wave, man falling from building, banana, dog teeth, bone and some others, and you?

  • so true!

  • I know a lot of people who could use the wisdom of this song tonight............

Hope peace and love finds you all. Pearl Jam really opens your mind to be a better human being.

  • this is my favourite album by pearl jam I think :D dunno why it gets so much bad stuff

  • @Annonymus121 no code was made to detemine real PJ fans some of there best work, but all there work is good so how does one determine what is the best

  • classic song classic album

  • Pearl Jam: still making music that makes your soul think, your mind feel, and your heart ache.

  • whatever they do is great

  • everyone stop saying that pearl jam only have 1 or 2 gems on their albums, ive been listening to Pearl Jam since 1991. and every album has at least 5-6 awsome tracks on and the rest are great also. went to watch them in manchester last year for the first time ever and vedders voice live or recoreded is the best in the business. I am a nirvana fan also but i still think pearl jam in terms of grunge were better from 91-96.

  • @pakmanmanc Dude I hear that, all the greats from the grunge era had racks of killer songs. Pearl Jam just kicked ass at everypoint. Like Alice in Chains. Stone Temple Pilots. I mean have you ever heard a STP song you didnt like? Doubtful. Same with Pearl Jam. Its all good.

  • Comment removed

  • @pakmanmanc from ten to backspacer back to back i cant think of a bad song. "grunge" was just a media word that most of the bands found to be silly while some felt genuine contempt for that lable

  • @pakmanmanc Ive been listing to PJ (Mookie Blaylock) and before them mother love bone..... There is no bad pearl jam song they are all golden! Even better Live!

  • @DungeonChampionship I totally agree, which is why Pearl Jam is my favorite band. Hearing them live too was the best.

  • @pakmanmanc i was born in 96, i was a grunge baby yeah

  • @flmvdvsrg lol that just sounds stupid! especially since grunge started in the 80's and had its "prime" in the early 90's. The genre was already fading out by the time you were born. :P just messin with ya though. if it makes you feel better to call yourself a grunge baby, go right ahead. lol

  • @jazzhart25 you made my self-esteem go down

  • @flmvdvsrg lmao! Kurt Cobain died in April of 94, and Justin Bieber was born 1 month before that. He is more of a grunge baby than you are! Thought you would like to know you are in good company. LMAO

  • @mallrat115 whats a justin bieber?

  • what a song...!

  • there is nothing that touches me like this......... PJ this is what they do

  • great song

its like on all there albums there is a hidden gem that just is amazing

  • This album is sooooooooooo under-rated!!

  • this song alway inspire me...pearl jam the best 4 me!

  • you can spend your time alone redigesting past regrets or you can come to terms and realize you re the only one who cannot forgive yourself....

I should listen to this more often. Eddie IS the best.

  • and the rest of the band? they do nothin?

  • @Ekyvvsaq since now i was commenting specifically on this song's lyrics, and since Eddie wrote them... yes. Don't try to teach me how to love Pearl Jam and not only Eddie Vedder.

  • When Eddie goes into the 2nd chorus an octave higher than the 1st chorus, it takes the song to a whole new level.

  • amazing...nice inspiration for my life.

  • beautiful

  • Eddy is so right if you don't learn to live with your mistakes and embrace who you are even the flaws then you will fill yourself with negative thoughts and they will eat you up from the inside out and you will end up empty full of regrets . joyless! love yourself and love and repect Life. live lfe to its fullest each day move forward in a positive way don't carry around regrets and anger . let it go live in the present .

  • la parte finale è straordinaria e geniale

  • grandissimo pezzo

  • One of my favourite Pearl Jam songs

  • I luv this song :D

  • this takes me back to driving in the early morning up to the mountains in NZ, love ettt

  • in what way?

  • Dumb comment! I like Radiohead but they are shit compared to Pearl Jam. I can't even imagine them covering this.

  • Dumb comment yourself! I love radiohead and pearl jam and many other great bands... Radiohead did not cover this song. use your ears ....

  • I never said they did. I was replying to an older comment

  • you could'nt compare different things like RH and PJ... so shot up...

  • you idiot id really like to see that..lolol

  • anyone who has anything bad to say about this is out of their effin mind I will admit PJ has good and bad moments but this period was 100% perfection-backspacer is dicey at times but also awesome at times what are ya gonna do i guess

  • Pearl Jam saved my life!!!

  • Barry White saved my life!!

  • Perhaps one of the most underrated 'hidden gems'/album tracks Pearl Jam ever recorded. I'm currently on an ideal 'lookout', for the albums "No Code" and "Yield".

  • I think Backspacer got a great gem named Untought known.

I'm in love with that song, it sounds to me like a track out of No code.

  • You're right i forgot that song, that 's the most appealing of them as well, among the waves is also ok

  • @Mavsare4real I love Unthought Known and The End, they seem really underappreciated to me. And Shoplitfters named a lot of great stuff in his list. The gems for me though are Footsteps, Yellow Ledbetter, In My Tree, I Got Id, plus so many more

  • @Mavsare4real amazing song man. the fixer and got some were absolutely incredible live aswel

  • @Mavsare4real

wow...my first response on you tube ever....this totally is my thought exactly....where i live there is this bar and i stick unknown thought on the juke box all the time

  • @Mavsare4real @Mavsare4real

wow...my first response on you tube ever....this totally is my thought exactly....where i live there is this bar and i stick unknown thought on the juke box all the time

  • @Mavsare4real To me, it sounds more like a track out of Yield. But while Yield was a great album, Backspacer is a bit dissapointing. The experiments and complex sound is gone.

  • @Mavsare4real - you mean its got a great gem among gems

  • @ShopliftersUnite what about just breathe or the end or unthought known?...seems strange you cant find a gem in it

  • lol I have a different "gem" for all their albums so i have to post a response!

    Ten (Black/Oceans)

    Vs. (Indifference/EWBTCIAST)

    Vitalogy (Immortality/Better man/Nothingman)

    No Code (Present Tense/Red Mosquito/In My tree/Off He goes/etc)

    Yield (Wishlist/Given To Fly)

Binaural (Light Years/Nothing As It Seems)

Riot Act (I Am Mine)-Not a fan of this album overall though

    Pearl Jam (Gone/Come Back/Inside Job)

    Backspacer (Just Breathe)

  • @ShopliftersUnite youre a bit wrong friend :) Ten - Footsteps (i know its was on a single but still counts) VS - leash - most energetic song ever by pj Vitalogy - "Immortality No code - present tense (agree!) Yield - given to fly Binaural - dont like it Rioct Act - love boat captain Pearl Jam - dont like it Backspacer - Just Breathe
  • @ShopliftersUnite

You call Unemployable a gem and not Force of Nature, Unthought Known, or Amongst the Waves. I call you crazy!

  • @jordn6971 But I am!

  • @jordn6971 But tbh, at the time I posted this I hadnt listened well enough to Backspacer, I really enjoy Amongst The Waves, Unthought Unknown and The Fixer they would be the 'gems of backspacer... I just do not like the quieter songs at all on that album

  • @ShopliftersUnite backspacer definitely has something to offer, its good for an artist to change styles over time

  • @ShopliftersUnite I think every track off Backspacer is great

  • @ShopliftersUnite shut up

  • @ShopliftersUnite just breethe off of backspacer is great and i think that johnny guitar is one too

  • @ShopliftersUnite i agree with u, but i thik from the perspective of eddie and the band every song has a meaning in their lifes. but those song for shure are the most reflective ones :D

  • @ShopliftersUnite Backspacer ( just Breathe) "actually was my wedding song" And please don't discount Supersonic. lotta old pearl Jam energy in that song! .......Oh and I can't believe you didn't include Vitalogy's (Bugs) on your list :) Peace brother !

  • @ShopliftersUnite

Backspacer needs time to grow on people. A lot of original fans checked out after Vitalogy. But, I personally think that No Code and Yield were an intersting high point in terms of creativity for the band.

ALL of their albums have "gems" on them. Backspace is actually really strong in this category. Amongst the Waves, Unthought Known, Just Breathe, and The End are already huge crowd favorites.

  • @michaeljamesmccabe No code album was creative, pearl jam was trying different sounds of music, they got rid of that grunge sound in which I hate the word grunge, each song was no code was different sound like "smile" was ode to neil young, "who you are" was inspired by nasret fateh alli khan cuz eddie and him wrote a song together for the movie " dead man walking.. I think the song "around the bend" is really an underatted song, very sweet song and very mellow..

  • @michaeljamesmccabe from Backspacer I actually liked Supersonic the best. Its just plain fast fun punk.

  • @michaeljamesmccabe NO code was made to determine who were real PJ fans or just bandwagon jumpers.

  • @ShopliftersUnite You forgot Lost Dogs (ALL OF 'EM), Backspacer (ALL OF 'EM,..) -:o)

  • I know those two are great, but No Code contains some real garbage like the annoying Hail Hail

  • Dude, hail hail is awesome, what are you talking about?

  • you're right. I'm talking about better man, immortality and corduroy.

  • Um, what?

Are you even listening to this song?

Pearl Jam always keeps things fresh. Hit and miss at times, but yeah. Binaural? They didn't change their formula there at all. Nope.

  • Are you serious? Wow! Personal taste I guess. Radiohead and SP are awesome, but they're not Pearl Jam

  • dude pearl jam changed their sound on nearly every album.

Radiohead is probably the worst example you could name, that band nhasn't even got a real identity

  • What are you talking about dude? Sure, the first three albums are pretty simialr, but they they went totally different for no code and pretty much everything after that. Went back a bit for the Avacado, but Backspacer is was sifferent than anything they had done before.

  • Pearl Jam is one of my growing musical influences, I currently have "Ten", "Vs." and "Vitalogy" and plan on getting "Yield" as my next Pearl Jam album; I've listened to the majority of the tracks off the album and love "In Hiding", "Brain of J", "Wishlist", "Given To Fly" and "Hummus" (hidden track). ; )

  • you should definatley buy No Code and Yield, thos are for me their greatest albums.

But they need to grow on you.

It's not like listening to Ten or Vs which are more simple to get into.

Check out -Pilate- from Yield. in case you haven't already.

  • Dude, i totally agree. The first three albums are really easy to get into, but the later ones take a while, but once you get into them they are fucking amazing

  • Comment removed

  • I love the way all the songs fit together. When I listen to it I usually listen to the whole album all at once.

  • I would like to hear this song with an Orchestra backing it, it has so much depth to it !.

  • Are you kidding, orchestra would completely ruin this song, it's beautiful because it's so simply :)

  • just keep it with true alternative!

  • SSSHHHHHhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

Just listen to the damn music!

  • Pearl jam are the best band in the world.

There is no one that could compare to them

  • One of my favorite PJ songs of all time, so hard to choose which one is the best. There are just too many. Can't wait to catch them on tour again this fall. It's like Xmas everytime they tour.

  • Kick ass album. Kick ass band.

  • go pearly

  • i got some lyrics from this song tattooed yesterday, this song is simply amazing

  • which ones

  • "makes much more sense to live in the present tense"

  • oh cool

  • @BCgordong Yes it makes =)

  • @BCgordong Yes it makes =)

  • I'm in love with this song.

  • this whole song is amazing

but from 3:30 on it takes me on a ride

  • 'Makes much more sense....to live..in the present tense'

What a lyric, what a song.

    Beautiful.

  • depressing intro, good build up and jam... impressive lyrics. makes sense..

  • one of the only albums with songs that make me wanna cry saw them a few years back at reading n didn't know what to do moss to fuck or watch in aww love pj in my opinion best band from the grunge ting

  • i hate when people compare pearl jam with creed. Pearl jam is one of the best bands ever. i like them way better then nirvana. no code and vitology are the best cds ever. If you notice every cd is so different but still very good. no code was their best cd by far imo.

  • yield takes the cake imo. whoever compares creed to pearl jam should be shot on sight. i'll give creed credit, they sold more records than any other rock band in the 90's but at the expense of their own self integrity. 90's pearl jam (and beyond) = pure gold.

  • Riot Act and Binaural for me ... this band is Legend .... Some bands just become part of who you are and they're one of them... that sounds corny as shit but it's how I feel.

  • This song puts things into perspective for me when things are shitty. I love Pearl Jam.

  • oH you should really check up on that lyrics =0

  • I dont know the lyrics but this song is still the shit.

  • lol i missplased the post up there.

BichinnShoes07 You should really look up those lyrics!!

  • Comment removed

  • Lovely and inspirational. Get's me through tough times.

  • I'm 18, and I agree too. Pearl Jam goes deep into the heart.

  • age means not much, so dont mention it

  • @8manticoreXbaricos8 for sure !

  • alessandro180577, you´re a beautiful person.

I´m 59 and I completely agree with you.

  • No code, was not meant to be a commercial album. This one, has so much potential yet remains a hidden gem for the fans, a gem that has not been mutialted & forced down many people's throats like Nirvana's songs...........I love those guys, but the media simply destroyed them. Kudos to Pearl Jam

  • Nirvana, the dead whore the media won't stop fucking, and pimping out to the hordes of people who don't know or care to know who they were.

One of the saddest stories in rock and roll.

  • that's right man, there's just something about this band.

i listen to them since i was 17. now im 25. and i'm quite sure that i'll listen to them when i'm 50, as well as always claim that they're the best band ever.

  • it sounds stupid to say, maybe, but i feel that people who really love pearl jam, who have their songs always in their minds, and repeat them in their heads in times of suffering and in the rare times of peace, all share something, as if they communicate silently their common set of feelings. and somehow it's warm and safe to know so. i approach pearl jam when i was 15, now i'm 31 and i still can be expressed by their songs. maybe it's not easy to say what i mean. anyway, thanks.

  • That is really cool to hear, I am actually only 17, but I often times feel the same way. There's something about this band...I can't explain it! It's great to hear you be so honest

  • well, it's something i realized by talking to the people. most of pearl jam's songs go so deep inside our souls, beyond personal taste. take "release", for example. it goes still so powerfully inside me, and takes me directly to my inmost feelings, and all instruments, including the voice, give their contribution and help me to "see" myself. in some ways, their music is ours, it's like we are the song in the moment we listen to it. and i never found any other band that is able to do this to me.

  • I agree alessandro i was 10 the first time I ever heard them and listened for years and years and they kind of fell out of view in late high school.. im 21 now and am rediscovering no code and vitalogy and its incredibly how I feel like it defines my life or expresses me as a person. WHen I first listened to the albums i understood them but didnt really connect with them and just appreciated the beautiful music. 10 years later and I heard Who You Are and nearly cried out of happiness lol!

  • i hear you, man. this song's (as well as a hundred plus other PJ gems) a part of me and my times and my life's pretty much defined by them. from where i live i rarely get to meet another true fan, but even just thru the internet i know that I'm not alone in my ordeals and in this precious source of happiness and meaning, I'm 22 but I feel like i've been a fan since all my previous lifetimes (are there?)....Present Tense a signpost in one of the most trying periods in my 2-decade road of living.

  • thank you for the song. the music and the lyrics are wonderful. every instrument plays the message, especially the bass in the last part.

the message is also clear: to live in the present is the only way to live, so difficult, nowadays more than ever, but he song helps us all.

    thank you again
