The artistry in how creepy and scary this boss can be lies on its face... at first it is expressionless, you can even see that it might have a stitched mouth. after a couple shots and its eyes blowout and a green mucus-like goo starts to leak...a couple more shots leads to more of the goo to flow. then after the generator blows out, his face busts into a mangled mess which only melts horrifically with the increasing abuse....the guys really hit a home run with this one.
when he's using the gravity manipulator, if you roll up in a ball in the bottom left corner (next to the locked door) then as long as you jump the lasers he can't touch you, so just charge your laser and pop up to shoot in diagonally when he's hovers up then go back to the corner I had more than three quarters of my health at the end because of that.
His first and second phase is kinda easy with a basic pattern, although you may get hit a few times, his third phase is the one that pisses me off. You have to keep moving so he doesn't hit you, one wrong move and you're screwed.

@marayno1 when he starts the gravity change use charge beams. when his face is exposed then just hang on to the climbable ledge and spam missiles. To me this is one of the easiest bosses in the game but it's my favourite boss.
For the final phase if you space jump correctly you can position nightmare so you can sit on the ladder and fire a metric ton of explosives into his face as he creeps towards you. Do it twice and he's gone core-x mode.
What I hated about this boss was the small GAP that actually your missiles can damage to reach the face. Otherwise, going with a full charged beam also works due to its power and nifty wide and piercing range. This was a really nightmare with emulator due to pressing more than 4 keys at the same time on the keyboard before it blocked itself and bleeped, but now that I have the official game in my 3DS, I'm going to kill him today at last. Revenge served soo cold, like 9 years cold >:)

At the start of the match...If you full charge your beam, climb up the ladder as he's appearing, Drop done before he shots the six beams and shot straight up? and repeat that 3 times? You can get him to his second pattern with the gravity manipulation....without taking damage. Also, You can charge your laser and shot at an angle to his his weak point whenever he goes up to shoot the two beams and just hope over when ever he shoot the two low...and not take damage.
@AmvFr34k Agreed. Only good parts of the Other M Nightmare fight were the first part with the gravity generator and, in the second fight, when he summons that black hole that attracts projectiles. Other than that, he just seems so... Not Nightmare. Like he doesn't charge by flying around erratically, but instead does the worm. And he shoots homing spheres instead of beams, and he flails around constantly, and he screams like a baby, and his music sucks, and his face doesn't melt, and, and... :(
To kill this boss faster, as a tip, at the beginning, when he has his tail, Use Charged Plasma Beam shots at his gravity thingy and it will be destroyed very quickly, after that, just continue to use Ice Missiles.

Putting Nightmare in Metroid other M didn't really make sense. Because, other M takes place before Fusion. And in Fusion you don't know what this nightmare monster is. But actually you do know, because you've fought him in Other M. Did anyone get my point? haha.

Nightmare, Spider, and Ridley are the only really hard ones on a 1% run since SA-X might be retarded.

Nightmare for some reason reminds me of an angel of death, a morbid creature created from the twisted experiment of biology and machine. It seems like its suffering and actually -wants- to be put out of its misery.

@InsomniacLegit I read it but somehow I don't see Giygas as being so much like Nightmare except in the hellish sort of way. I see Zero Two, in many ways, being like Nightmare, at least as far as being loathsome and hating all. Zero Two is arrogant. Giygas isn't per se but is warped and twisted. The Nightmare is, I guess, like Vincent Valentine from FF7-- a diabolical and grotesque creature no longer seen as a being but rather as a "thing".
Yeah, they both do look more bizarre. Although personally I found Nightmare unmasked in Other M scarier, due to the anger in its face and that scream it lets out.

When Nightmare turns on the gravity you can hit it with charge beams. I found out that works better and saves your missiles and energy. Then while it's moving around like that climb to the top left corner and then jump all the way to the bottom right corner. So when Nightmare moves around it doesn't hurt you .
damn, this was such a bad ass game :) i traded my Pokemon Fire Red for this game and it was hella worth it

Plasma beam is incredibly effective at the beginning of the battle. Somewhere around 7 charged shots that out the gravity generator.

Yeah, they both do look more bizarre. Although personally I found Nightmare unmasked in Other M scarier, due to the anger in its face and that scream it lets out.

For me,the first time I went through that game,that boss gave me nightmares:o and so did dark Samus chase(when you must run from him and hide!!)Now,that boss don't give me nightmares anymore,but dark Samus chase still does!!!!

@RoiBazar It's not Dark Samus that's in this game, it's SA-X. Dark Samus is in the Prime series.

I knew about ALL the metroid bosses except nightmare. He was easy, but...that face was really disturbing, it scared the living s*** outta me! All I wanna know is HOW WAS THAT THING CREATED???!!! What is the green thing controlling it?! Is it a mutant slug, or an artificial organism?!

When Nightmare turns on the gravity you can hit it with charge beams. I found out that works better and saves your missiles and energy. Then while it's moving around like that climb to the top left corner and then jump all the way to the bottom right corner. So when Nightmare moves around it doesn't hurt you .
