Remember when it was exciting just to hear about medicinal marijuana being decriminalized in a state or municipality, and now I'm hearing states are beginning to change the legislation that stops people who just want to get high for personal enjoyment, and have every right to. The MPP should have an advertisement on television with an elderly janitor speaking to the camera and saying: Marijuana is the only way I can enjoy my job. Why do you want to take that away from me?
Grats gentlemen! I totally support MPP and all the fantastic work you folks are doing there. Im proud to know we have great bunch people out there fighting to make a better change to this tense world we live in! God Bless You All!
Baby steps f/ rec. user's, giant steps for medical users, big business & government, Leaps & bounds backward for the everyday user / tax payer. Free the weed! Plant the seed!
then you have private jails and prisons. plus people don't realize that everything they spend on inmates is usually recovered. felons pay extensive fines after being released. then you have to do drug classes at around 20 per hour. drug screenings at 35 dollars per test and so i think with all that taken into account you can see why police and other so called "authorities" are against the idea. with marijuana legal i would think the judicial branch would get 50% smaller

I don't see how that figure would be much lower in the US, an offender would have to attend those drug classes for the rest of their lives to pay for their own bed and board.
well remember that when you are a prisoner you're worked for free. the state gets 12 prisoners per detail so you're saving lots of money from road maintenance to farm work. you only have to pay for one guard per detail. of course the state pays for each detail but only 30k so divide that by 12. where i was the facility listed that they earned 2.5 million in 2009 profits.
i definitely understand but like i said they provide free labor in most prisons. and they listed profits which means they are earning money not behind. plus even if its a strain on the government to pay these people. they pay taxes, they consume goods which they feel helps spread the money. plus like i said, the police force would shrink tremendously. look at the army. they dont need all these people but they still spend 750billion a year. if we pull out the army would shrink
First i should say that i am for legalizing marijuana. but one thing i often hear is that we could get revenue from taxing it. what people don't realize is that we make more money by keeping it illegal. what i mean by that is; you have cops, dea officials, judges, lawyers, district attorneys, probation officers, parole officers, prison guards, etc, etc all employed because we have a "need" for them. even though it costs money for all these people they generate money through taxes and consuming
All of those resources could be put to better use, catching real criminals instead of throwing people with debilitating illnesses in jail, where they die from neglect.
I hear you bro; but at the same time, all those professions/employments you mentioned will still be in "need" if bud were legalized. The difference would be that attorneys and agencies such as the DEA will focus on more serious crimes and etc.
The MONEY generated from a new GREEN economy will pale in comparison to just ENDING FAILED WARS LOL! Don't you know Afghanistan is where superpowers go to die??

Also oregon has OCTA 2010 Oregon Cannabis Tax Act 2010 this year trying to legalize marijuana and i believe washington has one as well and of course california. tomrichardson83 sorry to hear that because of our current laws you with some pile of shit, thats why everyone who thinks legalizing should needs to come together while this topic is being talked about like this, TAX®ULATE!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are ctizens who can't . For those citizens they will seek a source. So in order to get it out of the hands of some street corner distributor, and out of the hands of some CARTEL, there needs to be an outlet to buy it. Of course, unless you grow your own, you don't know how it was treated, pestiside etc., when grown. Taxing over the counter sales, and regulating/monitoring how it's grown and processed on a comercial bases makes sense
We should set up coffee shops and charge a fee for them to let people smoke cannabis and then tax this and the money made in the shop, people could meet up there to smoke the weed. This money could go towards any healthcare for the smokers and keep the goverment happy.
I understand why this is a talking point, but I really despise that such a healthy and natural source of medicine is so eagerly being advanced as something to tax. I'll grow my own. Fuck the state. They throw users in jail for 50+ years and then expect us to turn around and start paying them homage for living how we want? Fuck them. Government officials are good for absolutely nothing but causing trouble. They're the real criminals. It's extortion, period.
The Pot Prohibition Complex, a division of the Military Industrial Complex benefits hugely from prohibition. The gamut of players involved in the production and distribution of cannabis from organized crime, law enforcement, the prison industry and the pharmaceutical industry represent a powerful lobby against prohibition repeal. Also the government can use the draconian laws to control specific ethnic and social groups.
If you stay hot on their butts, they will realize that making marijuana medical, is not the best thing to do, the BEST thing to do to totally decrimanlize and regulate LEGAL Marijuana Where is the common sense, the USA could have legal funds coming in to the US WOW Talk about a shot in the arm, the US would come out of the red and in to the black!!!
YEAH NEVADA, The Entire US Will follow - The US Government needs to tax everybody even if they don't use it,,so there!!!!
@justice1thunder The idea is to get medical moving so that the society at large gets used to the idea of marijuana not being the boogeyman that the state makes it out to be. Then, when people get used to it being around, more laws are passed for legalization, taxation, and regulation.
I for one will not except getting a fine for possessing my medicine. That still means that it is a crime to naturally medicate for my pain. License,Permit or whatever we want to call it, if this will not protect us from criminal prosecution, then no matter what we do, We are still criminals in their eyes!
pointless? what the fuck are you talking about? have you ever met a cancer patient going through chemo? do you know what its like to not be able to fuckin eat?
While that is absolutely true I think that marijuana has much more of a purpose medicinally unlike say, heroine, which is something,as you said, something we should be able to put in our body if we want to.
I'm with mr.philly here... what is the reason? Smart Ass!

I'd like to see marijuana just legalized and not taxed or regulated, but that's probably asking for too much.
GaramRee 1 year ago
What they mean by taxed and regulated is that it works just like any other product that is sold on a legal market.
Anything that the clerk sells at his store is taxed later on, and some items like tobacco are taxed before they even enter the store.

I know what they meant and I mean exactly what I said. (I'm a right Libertarian)
