Ive always had this style of defense, but nowhere near as good as it could be! going to work on it for my fight in may! anyone know other videos with tips on the philly shell?
This stance looks abit similar to Bruce Lee's JKD Stance, if the right arm was more lower to guard any low attacks like kicks, obviously i know its boxing.
can you show this stance against a european or russian style. I try to show them the Philly shell but the people here in europe swear it doesnt work. lol It makes it easier for me lol
Man again! Your southpaw with is pretty descent but when you just did the mayweather jab from the philly shell your wide open for a right hook from another southpaw because when you jabbed you put your left hand in front of your chin the way John Conteh did when he was fighting. And if the other southpaw times that jab and slips in to his right its not gonna be pretty for you!
Having your power hand in front can sometimes be an advantage but in my opinion it's better to have proper stance just like anything else believe me with enough practice what was once uncomfortable can become second nature if done everyday 6-8 months atleast for me
Im a heeavy puncher and im right handed and I feel like Southpaw is more comftable for me and so should I stick to Left foot foward or Right Foot foward?,
I started that way, and switched back. Honestly, it was a better choice to switch to orthodox, despite taking some training partners by surprise who aren't used to southpaws. I found it easier to make my jab and lead hook stronger than it was to make a weak left straight stronger. You'll have to figure out which makes more sense for you.
@maxdax21: I would stay in orthodox till you know the basics of boxing down cold, then practice switching to southpaw in training/sparing/boxing. Very good for a fighter to be a converted southpaw. It helps a lot when fighting another southpaw so they dont constantly step on your toes and also confuses orthodox fighters who don't have a lot of experience with southpaws. Good luck in your training.
