As a high school student, I find physician occupations the most interesting, but I don't have grades or personality to pursue anything of that magnitude.
I'm only fifteen but have been interested in medical science for years and am actually writing a novel that takes place in a hospital setting...My curiousity will never die out.
I want to be an anesthesiologist SO bad. I am very passionate about this job. I dont think there is any other job more rewarding, than the jobs provided in the medical field. Im 17, and Ive been apart of the medical academy at my high school for 3 years now.
My only concern is that Im not smart enough. I have a 4.28 GPA on a 6.0 scale.
@ImaniHere Well Im going for CRNA , Nurse anesthestist, which is kinda the same thing but the CRNA takes orders from the Anesthesiologist, I would rather be a CRNA because an Anesthesiologist seems like it is more responsiblity and schooling
@sublikeaboss I used to think the same thing. And the pay of a CRNA is still great, but at the same time I would love to have my own practice. Thanks for your input, its definitely something I'll reconsider.
I don't care how much money they make ,as long as they keep me alive during surgery, with my brain intact after surgery. I'm glad I had a good one,as I'm sure the pain of a hysterectomy would have killed me..
My Anesthesiologist was the nicest person i met during my surgery, i was only with her for about 5 min yet she left an impression on me forever. She was also very hyper. My friend then told me how much they made, no wonder she was so chipper lol.
It is true that Anaesthesiologists can earn very good money, especially if you are business minded and setup your own private limited company through which you contract your highly skilled services to hospitals and individual surgeons. In australia anaesthetists are charging up to $2200 per day and work is always plentiful. If they work as a government employee the pay is around $300,000 per year, for a 40 hour week!!!!!
Some people are happy with there jobs and others are happy with the reward they get from there job. Depends on how you define your happiness or what makes you heppy. I for one enjoy the reward. Believe it or not, there are some people out there, who might be the happiest people on earth, that work at a shop right or gas station, even though they don't have the life style everyone wants. You never know.
i m anesthesiologist and there is nothing interesting in it, everyday same monotonus life, doing same n same things, money is defenately there but there is no job satisfaction, so i changed to critical care, its so much adrenaline rush there n lots of money and lots of respect and i dont think any otherjob have this much job statisfaction................ anesthesia sucks.............
Yeah but money and lifestyle is what gets you respect in life and very few careers like the medical field offer the promises of the two aforementioned. :(
When I was in high school, I heard all about the big salaries anesthesiologists make, and for a fairly short span of time I was actually considering becoming one. In the end, I decided that it would be a bad life decision for me. I felt that the schooling would have taken up more of my life than I would prefer. Now, if it was something I was passionate about, then that would not have been a problem. Same thing with the pharmaceutical field. I can't do it just for money. Wouldn't be happy...
Great anesthesiologist...not. Who taught this guy how to pre-oxygenate? So much for touching the machine and the equipment without removing your filthy gloves. that definitely isn't a CRNA in this video.
im 15 and i have wanted to be an anesthesiologist for 6 years and im planning on going to collage for 12 years. any ideas of what i need to prepair for now?
@MyJohnnyDeppLover im 15 too and after watching some of these videos, I might reconsider becoming a doctor. it makes me sorta sad that when I'm 30 and a doctor, I'll think back and realize I missed some of the funnest years of my life :/
@MyJohnnyDeppLover Get a Bachelors degree with a very very strong science background in the program, get accepted to medical school that offers either an doctor of osteopathic medicine or a medical doctor program (both last eight years in length) then find an anethesiology residency program (usually 4-5 years long) then find a anestheisology fellowship (usually 1-3 years long) .. And then boom you're an anestheologist
@schottilie Patronizingly pointing out minor typographical errors in the comments section of youtube while acting offended on behalf of the poor misspelled word is truly the lowest form of internet trollery. Congratulations. Keep up the fantastic work.
I'm currently on a cardiac/internal medicine ward to get some experience on that field. After 2 days I already miss anaesthesia and the ICU. Internal medicine is just too slow for me. I really miss the pressure. It's like an extreme sport, you do it for the adrenaline rush and once you've tasted it, you cannot stop.
I understand that these types of careers require you to have a passion for that line of work but why is so bad to like the pay? I'm sure pay is pretty big contributing factor to why most people become physicians, and who can blame them. Who wants to have a job where you only live paycheck to paycheck, which by the way is what my parents are doing and its depressing. Sure pay isn't everything but I find it a little hard to believe that it doesn't matter at all.
Intoresting, i been threw some surgeries, they are nice people, I had a cute girl anesthesiologist once. I hate that when you get an IV in you and when they admenister the anestetic your arm gets cold as hell, well before I passed out I said baby keep me worm
I am not in this for the money. At first yes, I was like "Wow 180k a year?!" then I looked in and their a very much skills dealing with biology, geometry, and human anatomy. I happen to also like working with people. I am social and always up to talk to people. Dealing with people would be easy for me, also I am chill person and could calm patients down. Exactly what I am good at. Since some of you are in it for the money, Love what you do. Or you'll waste 12 years in college.
@YourStrangeNeighbor Keep in mind that anesthetists don't have a lot of interaction with their patients. I work in healthcare, so I have seen first hand the logistics of the OR. The anesthesiologist will inform the patient of the anesthesia and how it works and is there when they go under and when they wake up. Of course, they monitor them during the surgery but the patient doesn't remember that! If you love people, maybe just think about a family practice physician.
@kenbe33 True. I have not begun much research into being a physician in that category, but I will look into that. I would absolutely challenge myself to become an anesthesiologist, because I would promise to do great things with that kind of a salary and maybe even start charitable organizations. I want to strive to help people and yes, I in fact agree I love people I would love to bide aside them with other needs as well. :)
Everyone that wants this job just because of the money is likely going to be bored with their job in the future. There are a number of responsibilities that go with this job. One mistake and your patient is dead, your reputation tarnished and it's likely you won't be employed ever again. I'm becoming an astrophysicist because I have love for the job, not the money.
@PlainAndZombie In this world, you need to know that a job is about money, not about loving it or enjoying it. Notice how it's called a job, and you get a weekly reward or pay...
@xvengaming I am not trying to say don't go for the job if you only want money, I am saying that if you go for the job with only money in mind you are going to be bored in life because a job takes around 40 hours a week average for 20 years. Money doesn't buy happiness.
@ewebb16 If money is all that is on your mind, you'll end up killing someone. You have to have a passion for your job whether it's 50k a year or 500k a year. Choose what you want because you have a passion for the job, not just because of money. Success and money will follow soon after.
First off its not all about the money your going to be spending your WHOLE life doing this job.You have to love what your doing. Also it takes about 12 years to become one.
@Bunnehsayroar OMG I WAS CHOSING BETWEEN THE EXACT TWO, but as much as i enjoy the uses of psychology i realised that the income per annum of a anesthesiologist is much higher :D
@youruniquestyle I'm fairly certain a staggering amount of doctors only choose that career for the money, for ewebb16 it's damn well possible. Bloody 400k per year!
@QBisbest yeah it is a contributing factor, everyone cares about salary. but if you have NO desire to help people or it is very little, you won't make it through med school.
@youruniquestyle Yeah, tell that to the Doctors that nonchalantly informs their patients that they have a terminal illness and leaves the room without looking back.
@QBisbest You act like you know every doctor. Maybe you've just come across the arrogant ones, arrogance doesn't necessarily correlate with not caring. They've done it so many times, they start to feel less emotion. A lot of the people in medicine for the money, drop out of med school.
I'm considering anesthesiology now. I have ALWAYS wanted to do general surgery, since the age of 3 (father is a surgeon lol) but because I want to spend a lot of time with my family (kids and husband) it definitely won't work out. Does anyone know if plastic surgery has good lifestyle in terms of working hours?
Ok I am tired of people saying that they want to be a doctor simply for the money! Being a doctor is not easy AT ALL! you have to actually have a passion for it because at the end of the day when your a doctor & hate ur job your hardly going to have time to use your paycheck because of your schedule (meaning hardly anytime to shop,go on vacations etc.) and your going to be depressed at your job all of the time. Choose a career u have passion for maybe u might like nursing,OT,PT,engineering etc
@MarqLouieIVI With HMO's and CRNA enroachment, the exalted "200k" a year is starting to decline...fast. Don't expect this to be the case in ten years. Also, if this is a field where you just want money...don't go into medicine, much less Anesthesia. For the love of god...
@eduardogutierrez521 do what YOU want. the only two things you need to do anything in the USA is a dedication and knowledge, no talent no money just dedication and knowledge.
I'm 18 and this is what I wanna do it sounds like a lot but I'm up for a challenge I just wanna ask is it worth it? I mean more than 8 years of school it gots to be worth it but I want a real anesthesiologist to answer this question.
Regional anesthesia of the upper limb by a "brachial plexus block" may be a good alternative to general anesthesia for surgery in this part of the human body. There are numerous brachial plexus methods. They are classified by the level at which the needle is inserted for injection of local anesthetic: Interscalene block on the neck, Supraclavicular block immediately above the clavicle, Infraclavicular block below the clavicle and Axillary block in the axilla.
What they talk about in this video is only maybe 1/3 of what anesthesiology does. They make it sound like it's all about sedation and pain control during surgery - it's not. We're also experts in airway management in the OR, ICU, and floors. Critical care (ICU medicine) is also a large part of anesthesiology, as well as performing a number of specialized procedures such as central venous lines, epidurals, spinal and regional blocks, etc. This video only shows a SMALL portion of the field.
@JKLilly100 Good luck! but there are fourteen years of schooling to become one, the money is quite good, my dad is an anesthesiologist, starting pay for it is 200-300k a year, he now makes 400k
@toaotou The oldest non-trad I've heard of was a guy in his fifties. Think of it this way. Four years of college, which puts you at 92 (there's no way that any credit you've received when you actually went to college, however long ago, will transfer). Then four years of medical school, which puts you at 96 (assuming you survive that long). Anesthesiology residencies are typically 3-4 years so, as long as stress doesn't kill you, you'll be a board certified Anesthesiologist by 99-100.

pussic, that's completely false, at least in the U.S. Respiratory therapists never go in the OR. Many anesthesiologists remain in the OR for the duration of the case. Many supervise a nurse anesthetist, but we never work with resp therapists in the OR. An RT would understand very little of how to monitor the patient, and even less about dosing the drugs.
ANESTHESIOLOGISTS are relying on the Respiratory therapist that is in the Operating room. Most of the time, the anesthesiologist administers the initial does and leaves the operating room. it is the Respiratory Therapist that actually adjusts the dosages and makes sure the patient is doing well by monitoring the vital signs.
@AndraBobo Because they are paid very high. higher than surgeons. They're one of the highest paid. That explains the demanding training and experience.
the anesthesiologist is the guardian angel of patient during a surgery. Save a lot of lifes and this is very gratefully...and this is boring??? i don't thnk so!!!!
Anybody with knowledge in becoming an anesthesiologist? I'm currently taking a two yr program in nursing at a community college in hopes of becoming a nurse anesthetist..
Hello, my name is Linnea and I'm doing a project on anesthesiologists for my science class in school. I was wondering if I could please use this video for my project, it would be very helpful. If you could answer me as soon as possible it would be very much appreciated! Thanks

Im 15 and I have a 3.9 Gpa with all honors and AP classes. I want to pursue a medical career, but I reallllly dont want to fuck up while operating on a patient
I also wish to pursue a medical degree :) But don't worry about "Fucking up on a patient" at the moment, all those years of training are there to prevent that from happening.
Most medical schools require 2 semesters of general chemistry, 2 semesters of organic chemistry, 2 semesters of biology, and two semesters of physics, along with humanities classes. Most medical schools also require at least a 3.5 overall GPA.
I'm going to work REALLY hard to be an anesthesiologist. Yeah, I'm only 16, but I think if I work really hard, by the time I'm 30 I should be able to make my dream come true.
It's 4 years of college (any major is fine, so long as you take the req'd coursework for med school admission, get a very high gpa, and score very well on the MCAT exam and interviews). Then 4 years of medical school (extremely demanding on your time and sanity, and you'll have to again do well in your coursework and score well on your board exams to apply for anes. residencies - they're competitive), then 4 years of residency (but you get paid $50-60k/yr) Source: current 4th year med student

@warriorskull12 in america a quarter of a million dollars (250,000) but it takes like 15 years to becom one. 4-6 years o college. 4 years od med school. 3-5 years od residancy.
It's a good idea to take calculus, but you don't HAVE to. You don't use calculus in Anesthesiology. The math used in anesthesiology is: division, multiplication, subtraction, and addition. You will NEVER use calculus. The reason your brother is pushing you to take calculus, is because medical schools are VERY, hard to get into! They get thousands of applications a year, from students trying to get in. So more advanced the classes you take, the better chance you will get in a top school
@brunobarrios213 The best is all you can do. If you really do try your best, you can do it! The pay will be HUGE. Here is your motivation. Just think, you will be in school for about 10 years, but at the end of it, you will be able to buy multi-million dollar homes, you will be able to afford Lamborghini's, Ferrari's, etc. You will make about $37,000 a month! That's all the motivation i need lol, Good luck friend.
As of two days ago, I plan on being an anesthesiologist. I have three friends who are going to go to college for it and are set on it too. I am fifteen and am a sophomore in High school. I haven't got a perfect GPA, my averages were 94, Math, 93, Honors English , 98, Chorus, 99,World History last year for my classes. I literally try as hard as I can. Is there anything else I can do to help me get accepted to UNC? I graduate in 2013, so I have a little time to improve myself. Thanks.
As a high school student, I find physician occupations the most interesting, but I don't have grades or personality to pursue anything of that magnitude.
Bless the physicians of the world!

I think anesthesiologist is not a doctor who makes diagnoses,... it just makes people sleep...

@gioojj It is not a big deal....

Y are totaly wrong...the anesthesiologist save a lot of lifes...is one of the most important person in a operation room.
joanama12 6 months ago
@joanama12 yeas that's right but we can not compare their work to surgeons... Surgeon is the main person in operating room...

Choose a career u have passion for maybe u might like nursing,OT,PT,engineering etc

cottoncandychic 7 months ago
@MarqLouieIVI With HMO's and CRNA enroachment, the exalted "200k" a year is starting to decline...fast. Don't expect this to be the case in ten years. Also, if this is a field where you just want money...don't go into medicine, much less Anesthesia. For the love of god...

Regional anesthesia of the upper limb by a "brachial plexus block" may be a good alternative to general anesthesia for surgery in this part of the human body. There are numerous brachial plexus methods. They are classified by the level at which the needle is inserted for injection of local anesthetic: Interscalene block on the neck, Supraclavicular block immediately above the clavicle, Infraclavicular block below the clavicle and Axillary block in the axilla.
chrissline77 8 months ago
What they talk about in this video is only maybe 1/3 of what anesthesiology does. They make it sound like it's all about sedation and pain control during surgery - it's not. We're also experts in airway management in the OR, ICU, and floors. Critical care (ICU medicine) is also a large part of anesthesiology, as well as performing a number of specialized procedures such as central venous lines, epidurals, spinal and regional blocks, etc. This video only shows a SMALL portion of the field.

sterlingtheman1992 7 months ago

An RT would understand very little of how to monitor the patient, and even less about dosing the drugs.
bertelman 11 months ago
ANESTHESIOLOGISTS are relying on the Respiratory therapist that is in the Operating room. Most of the time, the anesthesiologist administers the initial does and leaves the operating room. it is the Respiratory Therapist that actually adjusts the dosages and makes sure the patient is doing well by monitoring the vital signs.

It's 4 years of college (any major is fine, so long as you take the req'd coursework for med school admission, get a very high gpa, and score very well on the MCAT exam and interviews). Then 4 years of medical school (extremely demanding on your time and sanity, and you'll have to again do well in your coursework and score well on your board exams to apply for anes. residencies - they're competitive), then 4 years of residency (but you get paid $50-60k/yr) Source: current 4th year med student

do you really need calculus to become an anaesthesiologist? because my older prother is pushing me to take it and i suck at math :(
brunobarrios213 1 year ago
It's a good idea to take calculus, but you don't HAVE to. You don't use calculus in Anesthesiology. The math used in anesthesiology is: division, multiplication, subtraction, and addition. You will NEVER use calculus. The reason your brother is pushing you to take calculus, is because medical schools are VERY, hard to get into! They get thousands of applications a year, from students trying to get in. So more advanced the classes you take, the better chance you will get in a top school

brunobarrios213 1 year ago
@brunobarrios213 The best is all you can do. If you really do try your best, you can do it! The pay will be HUGE. Here is your motivation. Just think, you will be in school for about 10 years, but at the end of it, you will be able to buy multi-million dollar homes, you will be able to afford Lamborghini's, Ferrari's, etc. You will make about $37,000 a month! That's all the motivation i need lol, Good luck friend.
