  • About Half Eagles, Half Air Supply and Half Cheap Trick

  • This song is a part of me.

  • Keith, where ever you are, know that this was and will always be the song that I think of when I miss you. I love my fiancee, but you were the first great love of my life, the first of only two. I think about you so much since you died. . . I guess now I really do love a ghost.

(ps-you are a real asshole for overdosing like that.)

  • You're still here, why won't you leave my head, you're with me but I want you closer

  • "The Mississippi's mighty, but it starts in Minnesota, at a place that you could walk across with five steps down"... Probably the best song lyric I have ever heard!

  • I was in a Psychiatric hospital, years ago now (2000), finally dealing with the abuse I suffered as a child, and that done to my best friend Melody (in our Minnesota) and I STILL couldn't let go of her...... until I heard this. Thank you girls..... because you helped me let go, and be free, and now.... I'm still 'in love with a ghost' (she died years ago) but can finally live.. Because now, once again, she is my girl, my best friend, and helps me live..... Thank you

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. It amazes me time after time.

  • pure poetry

  • This reminds me of my best friend that passed away in 2004. What a perfect description of painful unfaltering love.

  • Mike Nee, I will forever be in love with your ghost... Love you always, S

  • And I guess thats how you started, like a pin prick to my heart, but at this point you rush right through me and I start to drown. What a perfect description of the memory of her that never stops overwashing your heart.

  • i think this song is about anyone you have lost and you still feel them but don't know how to deal with feeling them still - sometimes even when they are still here........

  • i dont think ive ever heard this song without breaking down and crying. i was introduced to the band, well emily and amy, in college through a friend and told them how much their music has affected my lie, they asked i there was any one song in particular, and ghost was my answer. after an explanation as to why, they sang it for me (ever notice how college parties always seem to have at least one guitar available?). never before or since has a song captured my emotions like this one.

  • this song never leaves you - especially if you have ever been touched so deeply..no matter how that love was lost....

  • Lord, this song will always remind me of her....

  • "unknowing captor"...ain't it the truth.

  • I pulled over the side of the road a few years ago crying my eyes out to this song, it reminded me of my day who had passed a few yrs prior... Nove everytime I hear it it takes me back to a loving place in my memories with him. Thank you so much for such deeply loving and thoughtful lyrics... x

Now how can this big fan in Brisbane get to see you gals live???????? Hmmm

  • Love is stronger than death. Whether it is about a love that has ended, a love that has passed away, or someone that you love that you can never be with . This concept also is demonstrated by the song Next Lifetime by Erykah Badu

  • I heard this song a long time ago in College. I liked it back then. I recently downloaded it and really listened to the lyrics...wow...it's a really powerful song!

I think everyone can relate to this song...everyone still has residue of that one person that they just can't shake!

    Love it..so melancholic...lol!

  • oh my goodness, how MUCH this song meant to me when I was going through a very similar experience. Hearing it again takes me right back. Thank God for such lovely talent!

  • an angel and a ghost seperated by all those mles/kilometers, ..........ya it's powerful alright

  • ive cried so many times listening to this song. its amazing how songs can do that. how this song wasnt more mainstream beggars belief. but i guess its better being underground!

  • the best song emily such a artist at painting a picture that everyone can relate to such a cancerian trait

  • So powerful.....

  • Of all the music, all the bands, all the gigs, this and Language or the Kiss...just the very best

  • This is my favorite song by the Indigo Girls!

    Favorite verse:

And I feel it like a sickness

How this love is killing me

    Id walk into the fingers

    Of your fire willingly

And dance the edge of sanity

    Ive never been this close

Im in love with your ghost

  • 20 years, and still I can't get her out of my mind. every time I hear this song, her kisses haunt me all over again.

  • Yes, it really is like being haunted. But I can tell you.... sometimes the ghosts come back to life.

  • There will never be another song that touches me the way this one does.....

  • Very unique duo, their writing styles are so different, it is a wonder that they get along. Usually with a duo one member is dominant and the other is supporting, but not with them, either one could be a single act on their own. Equally powerful poetry from each, just different. I wonder if they have ever co-wrote a song together.

  • My favourite Indigo Girls song :)

  • And I know now how it feels to be weakened like Achille's with you always at me heels. ..

That has to be one of the most aweome lines ever written...

  • Exactly. No one else seems to think so, but that line pure genius.

  • Take heart.....someone else thinks so too!

  • That entire verse just kills me!

"Now I see your face before me

That could launch a thousand ships

To bring your heart back to my island

As the sand beneath me slips

And I burn up in your presence

As I know now how it feels

    To be weakened like Achilles

With you always at my heels"

    Elegant, Literate. Beautiful.

  • This song has the most beautiful lyrics. . . and that verse tops them all.

  • This song never loses it's affect; powerful, moving, some of the most powerful lyrics I've ever heard.

  • Beautiful, emotive song. Georgebushisaknob, great name!!

  • ...then it was all over till 1999. what remained was a sense of the comfort we get used to, of plenty light and colour...yet when it became established, one rather missed the sense of its being a relief and a respite, which one had had when it came back after the darkness."

-Virginia Woolf upon witnessing the total eclipse of the sun in 1927

    ~Indigo Girls

  • Thank you! I've been searching for this song for a while.

  • one of the most gorgeous songs. One of those songs that put a lump in your throat every time.

  • This song, though I heard it long before I met her, reminds me of my late wife. It took so long to love her, but when it took, I loved her til it hurt. Sometimes I can almost smell her perfume in the air. I always look to see if she is there but I guess I'll have to wait my turn to see her again. I thank God for people who can put it down in words and music like this.

  • You did smell her perfume...that's one way that they let you know they are still coming around...

  • laudable lyrics accompanied by brilliant melody... powerful.

  • i have never heard these emotions expressed more beautifully or more perfectly than they are in this song... it's absolutely amazing. and i know exactly what she means.

  • Different ghost than when I first heard this song,so I guess that makes this song timeless, doesn't it? Sweet.

  • why doesn't emily get more recognition for being one of the best songwriters of her generation? this song is one of her best.

i've listened to this song a million times over the years and it never gets old.

    thanks for posting.

  • "why doesn't Emily get more recognition for being one of the best songwriters of her generation"? because the music business is all a bunch of aholes who recognize no-talent,bimbo,sluts and aholes :) she is the best

  • I've always thought that Ray/Saliers are like the female versions of Lennon/McCartney.

  • Yeah,

    huh? :)

  • They definitely are :)

  • Come on, Lennon/McCartney were not that poetic!

  • my favorite part of the song is when they go You kissedmy like a lover you sting me like a viper you follow to the river and ley your memories like the piper!

  • I think this is their best song.

  • this song makes my mom cry cause its sad but not me but they have such good singing it rocks the house

  • Carol..I love you...I am not going stop loving you Carol...Carol......Carol....Carol....

    Forever

  • LOVE this song...Can someone please post "LEEDS" by the Indigo Girls also!!

  • When I spent 2 months in the hospital, I would play this song repeatedly on my acoustic in my private room. It was incredibly soothing for me. I haven't heard the song in yrs. Thanks for posting it.

  • I saw them perform it live in Utrecht, the Netherlands, Europ. At the end of the show, they asked the audience (a few hundred people) to choose a song, and I shouted: "Ghost", just when it was silent for one second, so they heard me. They started to perform "ghost' right away. Indeed, their most beautiful song.

  • All TIME BEST!!

  • Beautiful song!

  • Their best song. They rarely perform it live.

  • This one is my all time favorite Indigo song. It's a hauntingly beautiful.

  • This song is one of my absolute favorites. So beautiful, who doesn't have a ghost? Sigh.

  • ONe of my favorite Indigo Girls songs. The lyrics are just amazing and downright heartfelt.

  • Simply amazing lyrics - cut right to the soul - beautiful work!

  • I heard this song 10 years ago on the radio in Boulder, CO and had to pull over my car. I had never heard such tragic and beautiful lyrics. I never knew what sirens had written such a wonderous song for a few months, but when I found out it was the Indigo Girls I was hooked. To me, this is one of the greatest songs of the 20th Century.

  • I love how much they respect (us)their fans. They never fail to entice with their beutiful music and lyrics.

  • I absolutely love this song. It is haunting, it is their best! The lyrics are just creative and perfect and the imagery DIVINE! The harmonies are the best...!!!! Thank you so much for putting this song on youtube!! If you can find photos to use or some sort of image in video..that would make it even better. Thank you for putting one of my favorite songs on here.....A BLESSING!

  • Just wish you'd have added the lyrics to the songs. Their lyrics (especially, Emily's) are just AWESOMELY poetic!

  • The video is sparse, but the song is amazing! I love you, zeki 1208. Thank you.

  • Then again the video wasn't important so I don't care. I love this song though....I really do! :P

  • This is one amazing song. Probably my all-time favorite, and most definitely one of the best in recent decades written.
