  • My song while i was pregnant with my first child

  • 'Thanks for the info on Rick Marotta. What a talent! Obviously one of those people who can sit in with any group and hold his own.

  • Rick Marotta=MONSTER drummer. I love his playing so much.

  • That was great enjoyed..Those were the good old days...

  • I love you Carly! The memories of those days, make me want to go back right now! Thanks for all of your music girl--these are the good ole days.

  • Does anyone out there know who the drummer is in this video? Is he a sessions drummer? or does he play strictly with Carly??

  • @TimeWarpLady Rick Marotta, a monster session player, is drumming on this...He also played on "Peg" by Steely Dan (and countless other recordings). I believe he's gotten more into composing in recent years (I think he did the "Everybody Loves Raymond" theme, for example)...he's one of my biggest inspirations!! :)

  • OH NO!!! DOUBLE 13s!!! "Anticipation" peaked at No. 13 and spent a total of 13 weeks in the Billboard's Top 100 in 1971/72, it entered the charts on December 11th, 1971...

(But then again; there are thousands and thousands of songs on You Tube that never charted at all)

  • i love this song.

  • I know where that issssss :) singing in her front yard!

  • Carly Simon's features shouldn't make her attractive, but she is. I think she is lovely. Can't half sing as well.

  • Love you Carly MUAH

  • I couldn't agree more!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a beautiful song! Ruined for an entire generation by a ketchup commerical!

  • For some reason... I want ketchup.

  • @pdchr LOL

  • @pdchr LOL ....funny.

  • this is just so fine a recording, even out there with the wind n all...and yes Rick Marotta is a fine fine drummer ;-)

  • Carly made the good ole days even better. I love her big smile.

  • @myredfestiva I couldn't agree with you more ! ! Between those long legs and that big toothy smile. . .what's not to like ?!?!

  • yes

  • I love this song with a burning passion!

  • I wish I could have been there for this , thankfully she did it so now we can watch it over and over again forever . Thanks Carly

  • ! want some ketcsup!

  • CARLY-THANKS 4 BRINGING ME BACK TO THE GOOD OLD DAY-YOU ARE TRULY 1 OF THE BEST.

  • I love Carly Simon, what a talent. Unfortunately, every time I hear or think of this song I am cursed with the vision of the Heinze ketchup commercial that used this tune, from the '70's I believe.

  • The drums are the big hook in this song. When She sings "Anticipation is making me wait," and the drums start that solo, syncopated countdown, you anticipate every beat of the tom toms. Waiting for that next thump, like a heartbeat. Anticipation. Thats how you write great songs. And the drummer is VERY good at it. What a fantastic band!

  • Love this setting with gulls flying in the background. Carly is great.

  • Carly! Thanks! You're the best!!!

    ;D

  • yawn. just another liberal elitist born into privilege holding a concert in nowhere other than Martha's freakin' Vineyard!!!!

  • Still looking good Carly , 18 years older than me but i told you i would drop everything for a single date with you and i still would . You laughed and said that's cute kid , but i was so serious. They just do not make em like you anymore . Davy

  • she was right...

  • FANTASTIC SONG!

NO-ONE KNOWS WHAT TOMORROW WILL BRING!

JUST ONE DAY AT A TIME!

LOVE ONE DAY AT A TIME!

  • @cynthia6637 En efecto Cynthia. Ama un dia a la vez. Y vive un dia a la vez :-)

  • Awsommmmme

  • +++ Will always love Carly.

  • ..the seagulls were in communication with her "there!"..as Her Majesty and I Am Music..so cool..replay!..There. She Is..The Most Beautiful Girl..Esquire!

  • i was being facetious...beautiful song! beautiful lady and genious bass playing!

  • wonderfull song...Anticipation is very special.....

  • @ThevanGoghBlues You are correct. Carly did write Anticipation while waiting for Cat Stevens (Steve) to arrive for their date. Her official website has a Simon Speaks > Ask Carly section where she mentions this.

  • Id rather listen to elevator music, oh wait I AM!

  • Anticipation...exceeds Realization! - Amelia Earhart This song says it all! The "good ole days" are not gone as long as we don't " know nature's way." Carly is a diamond!

  • timeless lyrics; anticipating reuniting with an old love from the good old days.

  • The late, Great T-Bone Wolk. Rest in peace brother. You were an amazing talent.

  • She sings from her shoulder pads.

  • 1980's fashion at it's best Carly rocking the shoulder pads!

  • little did she know when she sang that, those(were) the good ole days...really love here songs!!!

  • all the musicians in this group kick! the bass player is awesome

  • Yes, I admit it. The only reason I even know about Carly Simon and actually like her a little bit is because of Little Black Book.

  • RIP T-bone Walk

  • this mv makes me feel so happy. I feel like I'm there enjoying the breeze.

  • I've always loved your music growing up. I'll keep listening you for years to come...Your music has been such an inspiration to me...

  • One on the finest looking girls would sing this before she took me on; to quote Woody Allen: "Sex without love is one of the most shallow experience one can experience, but when it comes to shallow experiences?; It can't be beat"

  • @MrCaptainComfort

Thanks for sharing this. This is probably no comparison to Woody Allen, but I always try to keep a quote in mind by Gil Grissom of CSI Vegas in regards to the same subject. They are very similar. Nice to discover someone like Allen reflected on such an experience too!

  • Love this tune. I wish Carly and her band would tour again!

  • Great vocals and instrumentals. great song and sound. Looking good Carly.

  • Great vocals and instrumentals. great song and sound. Looking good Carly.

  • Her voice sounds better here than when she first started. Great performance.

  • Weird Al Rocks!

  • She has an overbite.

  • the base player kicks butt in this arrangement - and I do agree - the drummer does also!

  • @jeffroush1953 Yes, T. Bone Wolk played with everyone it seemed -- sad loss, but so talented

  • im not sure if i like this onE but ill give it the a chancE

  • i think im falling in love with u again? PEACE/LOVE......RICKY

  • dumbere67 - you're right the original drummer is andy. this guy's name is marotta.

  • We're waiting in ANTICIPATION for Carly Simon to reveal what the tune "You're So Vain" was about; Develop some ovaries girl, and let the truth come out. Who are you afraid of? At any rate, nice tune.

  • @GoodOldTroll The world is full of idiots... it's a long line... but GoodOldTroll is first in line...

  • @1632jimroberts Well said :)

  • Comment removed

  • @GoodOldTroll How sad you would say that, BUT i would rather be the horse's mouth than the horse's a**, like you are.......................................... Carly Simon is a beautiful talented gifted artist

  • i love that they used that for a ketchup commercial lol

  • the good old days,, sure would like to have a time machine!!!!

  • The one and ONLY Carly Simon!!! A true legend in every sense of the word, saw her on Today Show not long ago, she still sounds and looks as amazing as she did back then

  • this sounds funny but i always thought the drums were kick ass in this song. i think the album drummer is andy newmark but i dont know if this is him. somebody help !!

  • @dumberer67 The drummer in this concert video is Rick Marrota. Glad you enjoy the drums!

  • @CarlySimonWebsite I loved the drums in this too man!

  • The entire band is out of sight. Who's the awesome bass player?

  • @dumberer67

Thats funny you said that .. I have always thought this song has some great drum grooves also.

  • @dumberer67 I just clicked on the comments section to say the drums really make this song so great, and you already said it! ... well, the drums and good songwriting and singing. The outdoor setting, the wind blowing in Carly's hair, all of it, so beautiful. Thanks Carly for being so awesome!

  • @ToxickyGOO my mom (now deceased) loved carly. she would play this song over and over i was maybe 7 or 8. thanks carly and thank you mom !!!

  • @dumberer67 Russ Kunkell is the drummer on the original no? Rick played with Steely Dan too.

  • @MrVeesworld anyone that played with steely dan has to be good be well !!

  • Great Memories......

  • she is just the singer of my feelings

  • Carly your a breath of fresh Air!!!

  • Congratulations and God Bless you "Joe the Guy"

Love Aunt Lisa and Aunt Wendy

  • The method is called negative feedback...it's the method used in a lot of filtering techniques for recording in a studio. The effect can be totally cleaning to the original sound, or if applied slightly out of phase can yield some very interesting sounds. My most favorite song of all time...made all the better by my and my honey's present situation.

  • RIP T- BONE!!!!!!!!!

  • When are they going to release on Blu Ray this great concert ....please

  • A great voice and sooo easy on the eyes, Love her!!

  • Love the Vineyard!

  • God I want some ketchup.

  • @guyinfl99 Nice. ; )

  • Wow, that's T-Bone Wolk playing the guitar with the black hat on. T-Bone was with Hall and Oates for decades and just died a year ago, one of the greatest musicions ever. He was also in the Saturday night live band with GE smith back in the day. They did a tribute to him on livefromdarylshouse, which is an awesome site where Daryl Hall and his band does a jam sesson from his house each month with different guest muscisians. RIP T-Bone.

  • was the concert over a period of several days or did she change outfits that many times. I'm fine with that. but wondering.

  • Iam praying for my best friend for he has moderate Alzheimers Disease! He loved Carly Simon!

  • @padude64 Dear freiend, may the power of this wonderfull music and the power of love helps you. Hug from Rio.

    พิซออนเดอรูฟ

  • Bring out the catsup;;;

  • She's great.

  • Carly is very toothy!

  • Carly has class! These ARE the good ole days! No female artist (if you can even use that term?!?!) today can compare with Carly, Carole, Karen and others from those days. None of them could ever get up in front of an audiance with just a piano or guitar and a simple back-up band and actually entertain the crowd.

  • Comment removed

  • Very attractive, notwithstanding she could eat an apple thru' a tennis racquet...

  • This sure looks like Marthas Vinyard ? Am I right ? What a HEARTBREAKER ! Lovely lady !

  • Beautifully Done!!! I read that Carly wrote this while she was waiting for James Taylor to pick her up for a date. I have no idea if this is accurate, but interesting....

  • @srrailwayfan cat Stevens

  • I'll be honest, those were some of the most thoughtless lyrics I've ever heard.

  • I love her <3 My mom named me after her!

  • This is a pretty simple tune, but being a drummer, I have always liked that drum part. Easy to learn. . .fun as hell to play ! ! !

  • Makes me hungry for ketsup.

  • @edwardschlosser1 See what happens when someone mentions FOOD. Quit watching T.V.

  • i hope i can get my next future wife to get her mouth done same same

  • @Foorehtnossip me too, cause mine looks like a beer bottle, lol, & she''ll need it

  • I hope she is getting eready for a comeback soon . b4 i leave the countrey

  • She is smoking Hot! I have always crushed on her hard!

  • @jacksonmd62 You and me both, brother. Tall, long legged, big wide toothy grin. . .what's not to like ?!?!

  • great song by a sexy woman

  • I'v been thinking of this song,In my head for the last week.Take away the new cars and replace them with thirty year old cars, and were back to the, good old days ".Thought's from the play-ground in my mind"

  • @bser3973 i'm with you on the good old days, when i visit these video's it always takes me back!!

  • Comment removed

  • this is the very first record i fell in love with. i heard it under the bedcovers on radio luxenburg when i was supposed to be asleep to get up to school in the morning. it sounds as good today as it did then

  • @auldnickdevlin Hi The second time you heard this song was probably on a commercial.Probably in the late 60's or 70's I think it was for ketchup commercial, heinz,or delmonty.

  • Gorenji Carly! .......... you are the best

  • Beautiful in every way...

    (so glad those shoulder pads went out of style!) ;~}

  • U GO CARLY...DEF CHARISMATIC ---HAS THE "IT" FACTOR AND DOES IT HER WAY AND SHE LOOKS SO HAPPY RIGHT HERE!!! (i am a dj) and i burned these tracks every opportunity i had!

  • That bass guitarist used to be the bass on SNL band in the 80s

  • @okiedokay1

I would see him in nearly every Hall and Oates video that had a band backing them up!

  • I haven't listened to her since these times and it brings back enormous emotions...wow, who'd a thunk it. isn't she so beautiful?

  • Isn't this the Santa Cruz Pier up in northern California? We were just there this summer and at night---I recall those posts!!!

  • @msseuss Sorry to disapoint but this was filmed at Martha's Vineyard

  • Pretty Hot

  • I know it's LIVE, but how the hell did they keep the wind noise noise out of the mics? There's no evidence of it at all, but look at her hair - its not exactly calm!

Maybe her voice is just that powerful theguy on the mixing board could turn her mic down.

  • @52rockme722 - Re: Wind - I forget the technical term, but basically they recorded the sound of the wind alone first, then back it out of the channel when the vocals and instruments are played. Kind of like the way you remove hiss from cassette to digital transfers.

  • @CarlySimonWebsite Re Wind: As Carly sings into the front of the microphone her vocal and the wind is picked up by the mic. The back of the mic picks up just the sound of the wind. The noise of the wind is then subtracted from the track that contains the vocal and wind. Then you get a track which contains mostly her vocal.

  • @CarlySimonWebsite Re: Wind noise in the vocal tract. The front of the mic receives her voice and the noise of the wind. The back of the mic receives just the sound of the wind. When you subtract the wind noise track from the vocal + wind noise track; you get just her vocal. It is hard to believe that this song still sounds so good. bismuthradiation

  • @CarlySimonWebsite Could be that the mic is highly directional and they have it placed so the wind is approaching from the back of the sensitivity field.

  • @CarlySimonWebsite That is so interesting!! I always learn something everywhere I go.

Thanks for that. I LOVE CARLY!!

  • @CarlySimonWebsite - RE Wind - I believe you're talking about ANWR (Adaptive Wind Noise Reduction). I don't think they had that kind of technology back in '87. Pretty sure they were still using reel-to-reel and gramophones back then. ;)

  • @jimwit008 They probably just used stereo cancellation. I don't think they were using computers then, but they did have some sophisticated hardware and tricks to do noise cancellation. Now, of course, you can manipulate the wave forms digitally. You can invert the wave so that it cancels when you play it back with the original.

  • @52rockme722 prolly better off trying to figure out, how she got so much talent to go into that microphone!

  • @52rockme722 who cares. Why even comment.

  • I am a product of the 70s. The over abundance of youth, strength and stupidity. It was fun anyway... This song takes me right back to those good old days!

  • Friday night....I love you

  • Great lyrics!!! Most song writers today can't tell a story. So many songs today just ramble on and on. Love you Carly!

  • Like Rocky Horror 'Antici...pation' more betters

  • @preluki I remember! Say it Say it! How do you do I, see you've met my...

  • I really like Carly. What has she got new???
