Don't kill me , but what do you think = the blond one can't dance at All :o(( Que piensas ? Yo pienso que la mujer rubio ( palabra no correcto !!! ???) no puede bailar :o(( ... NO eliminarme :O)))
Thank God I was born in time to catch the Disco Era. I was a little kid playing with Legos but it was still nice to listen to quality timeless classics like the music of this man on Disco 92 WKTU here in New York. Good times and a courageous artist for aspiring artists to hope to emulate.
To EuroBoy..I thought that the blonde backup singer might be Patty Darcy, one of Cher's former backups but it's not (VERY similar, tho'). I'd like to know who it is, too, if anyone else cares to weigh in. There was nothing like the 70's!!!!
If music knows no barriers, no differences in color, race or religion why do you insist in labeling music as gay or straight, just follow the rythm and ENJOY!!! YEAH!!

Those were the days; party till the sun comes up. Raw talent, unbelievable voice, Izora, Martha and Sylvester could hum down MSG without a mike. Seriously, I'm a witness. This song is timeless; sounds like yesterday.

This is like my alltime favorite dance song, the energy of this song is incredible, and I just realized or read on Wiki that New Orders Blue Monday is a sequel or uses this song lyrics as the foundation of Blue Monday.
you can imagine Sylvester still with us today traveling the world showing all them ravers how tripped out dancing first began .. i miss him so much .. it hurts like Princess Diana
This guy was the reason studio 54 in the U.S.A reigned as the best nightclub in the world. The worlds fans still mourn this great man. R.I.P. Sylvester
@dutico I don't think you could classify Sylvester as to sexuality. Maybe he was a Try-sexual, try anything once (or more). Actually I'm not sure that Sylvester had that active of a sex life (comparatively, as the late 70s/very early 80s was era of sexual liberation).
I too was way to young to notice that he was different. Me and my younger sister were amazed by his voice. We used to dance around the living room floor for hours. He was an gift. Hearing his powerful voice uplifts me. AMEN!
There is no doubt that Rupaul was influenced by Sylvester and Sylvester influenced by Little Richard. Liberace was probably influence by Little Richard because he only changed his onstage persona after Little Richard did it first.
Totally Agreed... Music has no race, age, color or sexuality. music is art and art is not good or bad, is simply the way people (the artists) use to express their feelings and emotions. in this case, it´s very evident people are enjoying the music and having the time of their lives. I don´t see anything wrong with this...
Damn! If it weren't for the religious right FUCKTARDS that helped bring about the Reagan (counter) Revolution, this Country the United States would be FAR less homophobic than it is. And same sex marriage in whatever vehicle would be a non-issue. And gay friendly music wouldn't have been sent into exile, either. Thanks Jerry Falwell! THanks, Phyllis Schlafly! Thanks, Pat Robertson! Thanks for NOTHING.
I am 100% heteralsexual and Syvester rocks! I was about 12 years old when this came out and I loved it then and I love it now. Only an asshole sensitive not being true to himself hesitant back packer would have insecurities about feeling something that is "just a message". Now if he singing a blaintant homosexual message then that would be another thing but if the song makes you move you can't fight the groove. Just shut the fuck up and dance or just click on something else..

This was not the 80's.. This was 1979. Nothing in the 1980's sounded this good. My cousin bought this record at Peaches in Miami in the summer of '79.. we were 12... Great times!
@discott75 I wish i had your childhood music-wise...such a great decade..especially from '77 till '79...i wish i was a part of the whole disco craze....i'd fight my way into studio 54 haha..
There isn't a day that goes past that i wish i grew up as a teen back then....i'm 15 now..
so what if someone is guy or whatever........look at the church the biggest criminals and perdofiles of all times ! Sylvester was incredible, what a voice, what a energy
As a kid I thought he was "Sly" and he left the family stones..lol (as anyone, including myself, they call you Sly, short for Sylvester). Hot song, the thing that I don't like, is you don't even hear of him, on radio stations. Sad for them to censor his music, behind his image....yet in this world, there are alot of those that are gay. I am not of such, but just think that he needs to be played more, instead of hearing the typical disco artist, ie: Bee Gees, Donna Summer, etc.
For those of you too young to have experienced the '70's disco era, let me tell you, you missed a treat! It was incredible and will never be seen again, The rhythmic base thumping looping tracks.....there are no words! And dancing? This music took anybody straight to the dance floor! Anybody feel me on this?
@3Pookie3 being a 15 year old and not experiencing this era..i definitely agree with you...
Disco was about pure excitement..people had fun..they danced their asses off all night to music a million times better than today's mainstream music...not only that..it didn't matter whether you were gay, trans, bi or straight in a nightclub..you were who you were..and that's all that mattered...
well said sister im an ex racist hooligan who grew up in a carib church in Mcr and now have gay mates to this day.MUSIC FILLS YOUR SOUL.this is one of my all time favs. FOR REAL SYLVESTER JAMES RIP 4 REAL
@Musictalk-Hey Man I'm Not A Fan Of Sylvester's Life Style But Nevertheless This Brotha Was A Great Musican And Besides If U Watch The Episode Of 'Unsung' In Which They Talk About Sylvester's Childhood-He Was Molested By Someone In "The Church" In Which He Used To Attend And Perform As A Boy. U Can Watch It On YT Right Now. Check It Out.
Greetings. I heard this song for the first time via TVONE's Unsung Documentary. He was so advanced for his time and took a stand to accept me as I am or keep it moving. Regardless of his lifestyle, who are we to judge and at the end of the day, he made beautiful music. R.I.P.
You go to give it to sylvester, he opened the door to many artist. Back in the day's, when you know they would just shot them down. People are still in odd of the fact that most or a big majority of the artist are gay. Hay one thing is for sure, music is music and that is the universal language in any gender.
Why don't you save that for another page. We here to hear the music. ain't nobody tripping off Sylvesters orientation. Come on brotha. Save that for another page. No disrespect to you, but we didn't come to this page to judge. We came to listen to this jam. Peace be with you. Brotha.
Rick James, and Prince came our shortly AFTER,the notoriety of SLVESTER.I'm NOTT hating on Prince, nor SLICK RICK because I loved the work of these two artist, especially RICK JAMES.How many teeneager would forgo the wrath of their fathers, byu taking money to get some Converse All-Stars Basketball shoes, and get some RICK JAMES type boots similiar to the ones who wore when he sang...BOOSTIN' OUT???? ALL RIGHT YOU SQUARES !!!!!!(LOL).
Yep,because of my older cousin, who was the same age as my mother,I knew of the Genius of Sylvester as a young teenager.Too bad the advances of medicine wasn't available...Would there be people like Prince,or my homie,RicK James if it wasn't for the FLAMBOUYANCE of SYLVESTER? MAY HE REST IN PERFECT PEACE !!!!!!
@Eegunjobi1966 well, prince was out there the same time and so was rick james so i dont think it's fair to say if it wansn't for sylvester it wouldn't be a time. Prince came out wearing a thong, heel booths, makeup in the 70's
I was way too young and very unaware of SEXUALITY. I'm a straight female but let me tell you, music has no barriers, no boundaries, it does not see color, race, age, wealth or SEXUALITY. Good music can not be denied especially when music like this MAKE you get up and dance. Sylvester was superb, he was a genius and greatly missed by EVERYONE ALL OVER THE WORLD not just GAY peoplein GAY bars. I love who he was and what he represented, trully one of the few who showed his true colors.
The gays had Key West in 1978, I was there. Divine also lived there and Sylvester came to visit Divine regularly. Since gays basically had the town to ourselves, it was a huge party. The clubs would play this song constantly when he was in town, and he would be out on the dance floor with the rest of us. On one of these visits, Sylvester walked out of the club drunk with Divine and started singing this song walking down street, with Divine dancing. The crowd went wild. Oh, those memories!
@donvitodaplaya Yes it was goin on. Sylvester was friends with my neighbor in Key West and he would stay there for long periods of time. He loved Key West, and stayed with Divine, and they went to the clubs and danced together on the tiny island, and yes it was going on back then big time.
@YouCanSayIt I saw Sylvester in concert at a small gay bar in Westport CT in '83 or '84. He was amazing! The place went crazy with dancing & singing! He was awesome! Another horrible loss for the LGBT & entertainment communities. And, yeah, it was defnitelt going on back in the day!!
@Anteroization Hmmm maybe performers but Patrick Cowley who virtually invented Disco Music actually dies of Aids in Nov 1982 he played and performed his own music and created some of Sylvesters best commercial hits like 'You make me Feel Mighty Real'
check it out theres some gay hater giving me negative points on the live version of this and a promo, what a loser LOL. some people still live in the eighteenth century and they are too stupid to realize i'm female LOL. loves to sylvester RIP
I am an hetero-sexual french guy(34 years old) and I love this live version of long-time hit in my country. So the most huge thank you to you, please go on, and I wish you the best New Year's Eve possible.
Yeah I was there in 1979, with my chin on the stage at the Hammersmith Odean, reaching out a hand to the Master of Disco! A great day in my life! R.I.P Sylvester, your music lives on xx
There was only one Sylvester the ultimate greatest and no one to this day can compete or offer what Sylvester had. This great record has stood the test of time and never dates . i could listen to this anytime anyday any year my favourite record . Missed by those who loved his music but not from our hearts. RIP the ultimate Sylvester .
Back in the day homophobes, faggots, spooks, honkees, spics, kikes, and everything else mixed in could party till the sun came up. Today they all just pretend to........ Love One Another
Great to see a true live rendition! But to get an even better idea of this dynamic singer, look for the American Bandstand clip of them performing Dance Disco Heat. Then think of all the famous trios - The Supremes, Martha & the Vandellas, etc. How many of them have performances on video that captures them having so much fun on stage? Trio groups can learn a lot from this group, and it's great to see Sylvester James gain some new following via YouTube!
maybe YOU can listen what Sylvester has done before the disco fever. in 1974 he recorded a fantastic soul album. Sylvester And The Hot Band - Bazaar .... search it and listen!!!!!
great performance, love the syncronized disco at 2:44. this song still brings people out to the dance floor, they played it at a body and soul party in nyc, same energy as this video ,with everybody singing it,much like a church ritual.
Straight-up, shake yo' ass music! The shit today that is supposed to be 'disco/dance music' sucks. Back in my club days, I learned that gays party the hardest and have the most fun. RIP, Sylvester!
I got to meet Sylvester and the Weather Girls during a lunch at the Copa in Ft. Lauderdale. Friendly bunch of singers. Little did I know that I would appreciate their talents now more than back then.

Eegunjobi1966 2 years ago 3
Amen to that! Here's to the legendary disco artist, SYLVESTER -- the true Queen of Disco (Donna & Gloria, quit sportin' them tiaras!!!!)

Anteroization 2 years ago 4
@Anteroization plus the amount of coke they were snorting probably had a factor too.
donvitodaplaya 2 years ago

Silvester and Klaus nomi were the very first performers in the arts who died of AIDS
Anteroization 2 years ago
@Anteroization Hmmm maybe performers but Patrick Cowley who virtually invented Disco Music actually dies of Aids in Nov 1982 he played and performed his own music and created some of Sylvesters best commercial hits like 'You make me Feel Mighty Real'
