  • Karl 'No Gimmicks Needed' Gotch. Tha man, The Myth...... The Legend!

  • Osamu Kido is the one that Gotch calls "his son," as he's the only one that came close to his level. And when the UWF was restarted in 1988, Kido stayed in NJPW, because "his father" wasn't there.

  • Real wrestling here! rip Gotch

  • This is so awesome!

  • scissor single leg counter? COOL.

  • 1:15 to 1:20

That is why he is one of my all time favorites.

  • Damn, Karl is in great shape for his age. Anyone know how old he was when this was filmed?

  • @Gedooptics

Is John Cena more like Thesz, Gotch, or Bruno?

    LOL.

  • @Gedooptics This video took place sometime between 1984-1986 or 1988-1990, because those were the years when the UWF was in business in Japan. Gotch was born in 1924, so he would have been as young as 59 & as old as 66. But I agree, he was in great shape for his age then, and from what I heard he remained in great shape until his death. Even putting to shame a lot of younger guys with body-building backgrounds when it came to some of the exercises he recommends.

  • Gotch thought UWF would bring a new renaissance of wrestling but just the opposite. It's all completely in pieces today, a total wreck.

  • ゴッチVSヒクソングレーシー見てみたかった

    時代が合えば・・・

  • The only Japanese wrestler that came close to Gotch's level was Osamu Kido.

  • @DefLeppardVanHalen Level of what though?

  • @eslubin As far as similarities and ability go.

  • Karl was a great wrestler that the USA never appriciated!

  • Kazushi Sakuraba? Absolutely the best catch wrestler in MMA. There's others I'm sure. But the way Sakuraba executes his maneuvers is amazing.

  • People say the reason why the German Suplex was named the german suplex is because of Karl Gotch (a german). But i always thought that german suplex's have been around since Grecco Roman has, which is hundreds of years.

  • @xxrobfalconxx there's an interview on the web where Gotch attributes the origin of that throw to the Finns

  • @eslubin So it should be called a Finnish Suplex then? lol

  • Comment removed

  • @Coldstonechampion ummmm where in any of my comments on this vid, did i talk about genuinity and fakeness/showmanship at all?

  • @xxrobfalconxx sorry buddy I meant the EICHolztheExpert guy my apologies

  • @xxrobfalconxx maybe thats why they call it a "finish" :)

  • karl gotch was one of the best wrestler of all time, btw he teached inoki a legendary move,i dont know the name of the move in the moment, but i do know is,kalr gotch was a german,he was born in hamburg and hes also the founder of the GERMAN suplex...all hail to the germans!

  • Bruce Lee was Chinese, Billy Robinson is British, Gokor Chivhichyan is Armenian, all hail the world!

  • @TheShimelfly

    The Octopus Sretch?

  • The closest thing to Karl Gotch today is Kurt Angle.

  • @RSXemperor

Not even close, I would more think of guys like Hikaru Sato or Minowaman.

  • Karl Gotch. This guy's good, man.

  • wow this is awsome master gotch and then joshiakii jujiwara!!!thank you .

  • Excellent, rare footage of wrestlers training with the master. RIP Karl Gotch

  • Excellent.

  • This video is ancient history. Gotch has passed on and the UWF no longer exists. But it is a rare find.

  • not even gotch could make takada a good shoot fighter

  • @tinobar

"Not even Gotch could make Takada a good shoot fighter"?!

Takada wasnt SUCH a bad fighter after all. He joined the MMA circuit in his mid - thirtees (way too late) by challenging the at this time best fighter in the business! No wonder that he lost. What followed was Takada not realizing that times had changed, still doing worked shoots. Thats what most people blame him for, but keep in mind this was just what Takada had been doing all his life.

  • Kazushi Sakuraba anyone?

  • They are pro fighters and Sakuraba learned from Billy Robinson wtf are you talking about?

  • @Kolohe86786876786786 If I'm correct, this footage is from Akira Maeda's UWF. Sakuraba started Pro Wrestling in Nobuhiko Takada's UWFi and his master in Catch Wrestling was the legendary Billy Robinson.

  • Josh also trains with Billy Robinson and is focusing more on pure Catch. Watch the Yoshida fight and you will see the difference.

Robinson according to a Gotch interview by Jake Shannon mentioned, him to originally wrestle amateur in Manchester then moving to Wigan.

  • He was right. Because MMA is exceeding Pro Wrestling in popularity and wrestlers rule.

  • well wrestler as in collegiate/amateur wrestling...there are few "legit" catch wrestlers out there....sakuraba could be one and josh barnett but barnett uses erik paulsons system of CSW which includes catch wrestling but also incorporates judo, sambo,BJJ etc

  • To be perfectly honest, there really isn't any such thing as a "pure" style of grappling or wrestling.

Judo is built upon various arts, same for Sambo, Catch Wrestling, and BJJ. Getting a black belt from Cesar Gracie doesn't justify being pure at BJJ, as Cesar and his teachers skills are from other styles also, yet they may still refer themselves as jujitsu, or whatever.

In the end, they all have a relationship to areas like Pankration, which makes any modern style an offshoot of this!

  • bjj refers to itself as jj but is totally unlike any jj youll find in japan.ITS early kodokan judo that maeda taught to carlos and was modified slightly and added to since then.

  • Thanks again, Larmy.

  • cool video..must be rare...never seen this before

  • Gotch-ism forever.
