I used fireworks grade 50 mesh aluminum powder and the iron oxide is probably where it went wrong. I don't know what kind it is, I think it was iron(II) oxide but it had been stored in a barrel for many years outside and rained on an contaminated with god know what... If I ever try it again I'll make sure its good pure iron(III) oxide.
How much thermite did you put in there?

Did you use aluminium and iron oxide?
Its cool but the reaction wasent that powerfull. Ive seen a guy burn through a frying pan and a 1/2" steel plate.
But he used a redbull can maybe it was more concentrated that way.

I just bought some new thermite and il probably light it up next week. Il try to find some steel and a old frying pan and record it.
You can also find the video I mean in my channel i uploaded it on youtube and there are instructions included on how to make it. (not recorded by me)

Yeah, it was pretty fun to make.

Later I took a hammer and gave the bottom a small tap and bottom of the pan collapsed... so it was close.
