I just checked on eBay and the cheapest one was $79.99. I got lucky today though and picked one up locally from a guy who advertised in the paper. Just $40. Works great!
HELP... I bought the haier monitor but when I connected on my Sony NEX5 i did not get video or sound. The Sony Nex5 is a mini HDMI. So, I bought a RCA video component to HDMI and an mini HDMI to HDMI adapter. Please, anybody ever tried to connect that monitor on a Sony NEX? Thank you
What is the best way to go from mini hdmi on my 60d to the component cables. is there a cable that can do this? I see boxes but is there a cable? IF so where? Thanks
@MrDrumdemon101 Hello. I think I am having the same problem that you are. My Sony nex 5 is Mini HDMI, I bought a Mini HDMI to HDMI adapter and a HDMI to RCA component video cable. Did not get any image or sound. HELP......
I use a HAIR monitor while shooting. It is a pile of crap compared to an expensive LCD playback viewer...but If I could afford those, I would have them. It doesn't put out very accurate color, but to see what I am doing while run and gun filming, it is great. I got mine new (on sale) for just under $80.
hey I ve been looking all over for this cable>>> where did you get it?? I purchase one from ebay__ but the usb was to small..... (I have the rebel T3___ and The HAIER monitor) any suggestion for it to work>>>>> thankx
I have a video production business and was using a portable DVD player for my monitor. When I saw this last year for $50.00 at Christmas I purchased 2 of them. The greatest thing is most monitors have an adapter so you need a female to female connector. This I just plug the video out from my camera. I do not use the audio from the monitor. I plug directly into my camera. Also it has a 12 volt plug. Get the cheapest battery buddy and you can use it for hours.
@experimentORIGINAL I bought one from Amazon for $50 about a year ago... the price seems to have jumped back up. I was looking for the link to share with you, but it doesn't seem like it'll be anything you haven't seen before.
I've had good luck with my Haier 7" but truthfully the picture is garbage. It's good enough for the job but you get what you pay for! Just wish it had a more secure mounting point, I ran a tap into the bottom threads but it still feels a little unsafe.
hey! i really need some help with something about this monitor...i just purchased this monitor and i like it but i just recently updated my 60d firmware and installed magic lantern. however, when i try to plug the monitor into my 60d it says no signal but it works fine with the memory card(with magic lantern) is not in it...I NEED HELP! thanks!
@GingerSnapsPhoto Amazon jumps a lot with pricing. I just clicked it and its $109. Just keep in mind if they went that low once, its bound to happen again.
Hey ONELONEDORk..i so i just got this monitor .. its xctly how you discribed it. you the best Dude lol but i got a qustion.. when i press record on my Dslr.. the screen on the Haier blacks out..how can i fix thaT PLEASE RESPOND
Nice video! Thanks a lot! On minute 1:43 you show the volume bar on the monitor. Trully says, cannot find the same with my Hair... I use 5DMII with the standard cable (Yellow-White-Red). While capturing the video I don't hear any sound through the Hair and no any sound bar appeares. But when I play the clip on 5DMII through the Hair I can hear the sound. Did you switch smth. in your camera and/or on Hair to have a sound and such a bar when capturing? Thank you!
i bought Haier HLT71 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV with hot shoe adapter. When the item is attached while video recording on my canon 550d it has a slight interference. Any tips how to reduce or remove the interference?
I like how in less then 2 weeks, the price of this item went up from 59.95 to 99.95, What a country week live in...Not your fault Onelonedork, just the American way i suppose. Let us know if any other door-buster-deals come up!
Will this work with the Nikon D7000? If not, do you have any recommendations for what monitors will work with it, & what monitors work best for APC - non- full frame sensors? If you could let me know, I'd really appreciate it, thank you...
Pretty nice review, although, it would have been nicer if you'd actually had a subject that was in focus. Focus, is the main reason for getting an external monitor. This review shed no light on that capability.
Heads up on mounting this monitor! The treading is not compatible with the standard bolts that are found on US equipment which is more coarse (few threads) per inch. I think I found a bolt that will work, but I almost ruined my original mount by over cranking it....monitor works great and since the feed from the T2i is not HD, the resolution is fine as well.
@boolagotbeats The 7d t2i and 60d us the AVC-DC400 if you get the ST version it ends up being about $20 more. If you have the 5d the cable is Canon STV-250N. Hope that helps.
@onelonedork Okay thanks, also, I want to try and mount this to the bottom of my steadicam by replacing one of the weights with it. They use 1/8th" screws (guessing) ALso I want to angle it up so it is not facing forward, any idea how I can do this?
can i use it on my new canon 60 d? and what other items should i purchase from amazon to be able to hook this up to my canon 60d? and can i charge the battery that comes with it? how can i get an extra battery? thanks dude. please reply soon.
Hi, thank you so much for this info. Can I use this monitor for pole aerial photography (not video) where I use the monitor to view what my camera is seeing from 20' up in the air? I'm not interested in using the monitor as a video monitor but being able to see what my photos will look like before I click them. ? Thank you so much.
@baljot1231 Well the 550D while recording output is only 480p I believe so there's no point paying more for 1080p monitor if the camera won't be outputting while recording anyway.
Hi ! I live in France, and I planning buying one ! But do you think, maybe, if it will 100% works with my 550D ? I'm only scared for PAL version of my DSLR, thank you !
I had the 10.2" version which had a much higher resolution and more even lighting, however the inputs were very noisy, meaning if there was high contrast images being viewed, the light spots would ghost or echo over to the dark. Very annoying! I traded it for the 7" shown in this video.
The threads at the bottom are metric, but are very close. Definitely chase your threads.
I bought it and it's an OK monitor. For the price you can't go wrong. It always looks a little darker in the monitor even if it is actually perfect. Also, It makes a high pitched hissing noise when it's turned on. Even though there are all these cons. If you dont have a monitor but need one cheap... This works fine.
@onelonedork i just bought these from amazon, its a july 2009 version (uses 12v power supply, 7.2v battery) had dead pixels so im returning it, but it also had the bad 1/4" threading messed up so I think its the same model as the one in your video. The replacement unit they sent is a september 2009 version, threads came fixed, has one dead pixel but it does have a high pitched noise coming from the battery like @Fear509 mentioned, so i think its just some circuit they changed thats causing that
@michielvanzummeren Plug the wall adapter into the monitor and plug the other end into the monitor. Leave the unit off, amber light is charging, green light is charged.
@JippaLippa Looks like the batteries from Haier are sold out on amazon and ebay. I've got an adapter coming in the next week to try and rig this up for a better battery. I'll keep you posted.
Hey dude... I see you reviewing a lot of nice monitors and stuff. I have the 550D and the 60D cameras and I understand that the monitor's resolution output of the 60D and the 550D drops to a much lower resolution. How much does that affect your focusing?
Another question, if you have the budget and the time, will you look at the Zacuto EVF and/or the Cinedroid viewfinder thingy? Should be interesting.
Thanks for all the reviews and info, it is very useful to me.
@onelonedork rebelt t2i. I think I found a cable that came with the camera for it. Thanks for the review im getting the screen as a starter then in like a month or two getting the lilliput! woo
@ForeverFire Not a Nikon owner. If it has an RCA video output you should be good to go. The HLT10 is on the larger side, and I'm not sure if it has the 1/4 20 mount on the bottom.
@onelonedork yet it does hace RCA video output..thanks man!...i lookinh foward the 10inches its justo 10 usd from the 7"...3" will comes good right?..anywhere i can ask aboute 1/4 mount?...bcuz i dont live on US..so in time to time i ask friends who travells to bring me the stuff..
Nice review. I'm doing a shoot this Monday where I'll be using a homemade steady cam to shoot a theatre stage by walking 360 degrees around it. I picked up this monitor off Amazon and will be mounting it to my steadycam so I can face forward yet see what the camera is recording. Hopefully this will work out well. Again, great review.
Do you think you could make a video on how to remove the Magic Lantern firmware from your camera fully? I'm actually trying to figure this out myself...

ForeverFire 11 months ago
@ForeverFire Not a Nikon owner. If it has an RCA video output you should be good to go. The HLT10 is on the larger side, and I'm not sure if it has the 1/4 20 mount on the bottom.

Your videos are great! Very helpful. I really appreciate it. I was wondering what the best way to attach this to my rig would be?

Do you think you could make a video on how to remove the Magic Lantern firmware from your camera fully? I'm actually trying to figure this out myself...
JoshuaBeeLoved 11 months ago
@JoshuaBeeLoved Magic Lantern lives on the sd card if I'm not mistaken. Just switch the card with a fresh one and you'll have your old firmware.
StimpyJackal 11 months ago
@StimpyJackal You are correct sir. He could also formate the old card.

Magic Lantern is out for the 60D? That's news to me. The only thing I've heard of is an unstable alpha version. Am I missing something?
