  • I was young, but around then. Reviews of Nancy were middling to scathing, and Frank criticized for using his influence to create an undeserved career for her. Today, she is looked upon in a better light, as a niche artist of that particular period, the mid-to-late 60s, not so horrible. Frank Junior was actually good, a handsome boy with a good voice. The kidnapping of him, and resulting bad publcity, effectively torpedoed his career. He wound up his dad's imitator and sometime conductor.

  • @defundthewar I was around then. Nancy was never seen as a great singer, but she was in fact (albeit briefly) more popular than her dad ! And he was BIG in the mid 1960's. I was in high school at the time and she was really an "in" performer...if only for a moment.. I agree, she is now seen as a niche performer of her time.

  • @BarneyGoogle1950 I think it's inaccurate to say she was even for a moment as popular or more popular than Frank. I think she was a curiosity, briefly, and rode the coattail of the Sinatra name as best she could. She was cute, could sing a little, made a niche fashion statement, but I don't recall anyone getting really excited over her even at the height of her career.

  • @defundthewar I lived through this and remember it well. Even her dad joked about her sudden fame. Her recording of "Boots" was a sensation. DJs played it to death. I remember high school lunchroom, and when the song came on, the students cheered and sang it. Hey, even Fabian and hoola hoops had a moment. Maybe goofy, but true.

  • @BarneyGoogle1950 If the 1950 of your name is your birth year, we aren't much age different. Of course, Boots was a huge hit, but one huge hit, and some lesser ones- Sugartown, Bang Bang- do not make a career of substance. Nobody's saying her rise wasn't swift, but- I hate to say it- even Tiny TIm made the bigtime, but it's a slippery slope. It helps to have genuine talent, like Frank Sr., to keep the public on one's side, longterm.

  • @BarneyGoogle1950 I'm familiar with Frank's specials & Nancy's work, and I recall when so many girls wore boots to school that it became a dress code issue. (Culottes were also a problem but not Nancy-related.) I don't want to hog the board so I'll just say that if Nancy did anything in records, film, TV, Vegas that wasn't Frank-related or arranged, I'm not aware of it, and this does not a star make. Even Mia Farrow, who HAD a career, was dismissed (unfairly) by many as a hanger-on.

  • @defundthewar You must have some sort of Nancy resentment, I don't understand. Simple answer: Nancy's "Boots" sold about six million copies. She sold more records than her father in 1966. One of the biggest selling records in history. It was a cultural phenomenon, all tied up with the 60's social changes. And yes I agree, I don't think she was all that good. But her moment in the sun cannot be denied. I rest my case.

  • We are hogging the board and should stop. Yes, we agree: 1) Nancy had a monster hit one year, and 2) She was not all that good. Where we disagree is that I say if she needed the name and pull of her father to be a star, and never strayed beyond her dad and his connections, she was not a star. And no, I say she wasn't a cultural phenomenon or representative of any great sociological, political or sexual significance. She seemed a nice person anyway, certainly deserving no resentment.

  • @defundthewar In fact, Nancy had many hits, as much talent as many pop performers, and a nice little run. Are you one of those anti-anything-Sinatra people? I never said Nancy was a star--I said she was more popular than her dad, for a brief period. I never said Nancy was a cultural phenomenon--- I said the record "Boots" and the public response to it created one. Check all over youtube. You are right, she deserves no resentment--yet you resent her. Methinks thou protesteth too much.

  • @BarneyGoogle1950 Methinks you are an athhole who likes to argue too much. I don't care whom you think I resent or not. Frank, although not a nice person, was and is my pop musical idol. I have been guilty of hogging this board along with you, and- I don't know about you- but this is where I get off.

  • @defundthewar So call names. Typical liberal, huh? I deal in facts--everything I said about Nancy was factually correct and logical, but you-- the smartest guy in the room, just has to disagree over and over, to have the last word, because he can't accept that he is wrong. Trash Nancy--whine--run away. But that's a liberal for you. Goodbye.

  • what happened to this America????????

  • @montotosk Don't be sad, everything's okay. You may find just those feelings somewhere else in the media, just give the present time a chance and look around with warm and friendly heart. God bless America - I love you.

    With greetings from Germany.

  • Hahahahahahahaha!

    This was greattt!

  • awesome. thnx f. up

  • An amazing renditions of songs, bridging generation gaps,& to think, according to Nancy, she was upset that her dad, tried to use her,to get Elvis Presley to drop Col Parker, and become a member of the Rat Pack. Can you imagine the headliner battles in Las Vegas?& I guess out of respect,of Elvis said, no thanks but offered his gratitude and give Nancy a part in 1 of his films. Don't believe it? The late Bill Bixby that co-starred w/Nancy Sinatra in the Elvis flick said the same thing b4 Bixby died!

  • omg nancy is such a cutie pie and she makes me laugh :D and so does frank he has a great sense of humor!
