yeah the pro 78 C is a good detector, just not the best. It's more of a ''I don't want to spend more then $200 on a detector but I still want PRETTY GOOD detection'' what I did is bought a $120 escort 8500 (not X50) off ebay just to have a detector with speck mode and once I found out they used 35.5 ka I went and bought a escort 9500i (450-500$) and I have much better detection with 35.5. 34.7 is more common in my area and is the easiest Ka to detect.
you have to have either a beltronics or escort detector that's capable of speck/tech mode. there's also a new whistler that tells you that the Ka frequency is close to 34.7,35.5, or 33.8
I know this is an old comment but just wanted to go ahead and reply. Honestly any radar detector would be useless against a very skilled LEO operating 35.5 I/O be it Bel/Escort, Valentine 1 or whistler.
