I still go here. The ratline is defiantly not easy mentally, but pretty easy physically until the last week. Unfortunately, almost all the females get out of most of the crap because they are all NCAA and much of the difficulty of the week is determined by the upperclassman assigned to you (dyke in VMI iingo), who will be same-sex. Some guys are still huge shitbags and worm out of everything, but its really obvious with the girls. Over 50% I have absolutely no respect for.

Yeah, my year was the one that ruined it for everyone... class of 2005. We had a crazy cadre march in at midnight blacked out with drums. Anyway, we started with 48 girls and were down to 24 in two days. After that the I basically made the ratline easy enough for even the nastiest shedet.

I take it you are a graduate of VMI- how did your year ruin it for everyone?

And, what is your opinion on VMI's admission of women in 1997?

My class didn't personally ruin it for everyone but when we went through our hell week, we lost half the girls in the first two days so they admin freaked. I'm male and I feel women should be allowed to go to VMI. However, VMI has been forced to try to swell the ranks of women too quickly and it has really hurt the assimilation process b/c VMI has to take basically any woman who wants to go there so there is a ton of trash that gets in. For every 1 awesome female cadet there are 10 poor ones

I'm curious, sir- when your class lost half its female rats in the Hell Week, why did the administration freak? What bothered them about that?

If VMI is voluntarily or being forced to admit just about any female who wants to go there, it sounds like I'll have work to do when I go there. I'm male, 12th grade, and if it were my choice, the Corps of Cadets would have no female cadets at all. The women who want to go there should not get in easily, nor live easy while there.

The administation needs to show continual increases in the number of women in the school as evidence of successful assimilation.Losing half the class of girls was a step backwards and a potential red flag to those overseeing the process. Women's sports has been especially contentious issue since 1997 as male scholarship athletes have lost their rides to women who have never played the sport in which they are given a scholarship .This issue is improving, but it was not done well to begin with.

@slimpickensusaf Hey man, same thing goes on at the Citadel, there are a ton of "poor" female to a few good female cadets. I agree with you, women should be allowed to attend VMI and the Citadel, but if they do they need to put out just as the male classmates do

The thing you need to remember is that there is still the option of the "hard" road for women who want to take it. Not every girl opts to let the administration carry them through, and those women should be accepted like everyone else. Sadly, these women are largely the exception

The plebe system at VMI must be allowed to function without outside intereference- if half the female cadets in a new class can't make the cut, they can't make the cut and don't belong at the Institute. If they've got what it takes, they'll make it and become Institute graduates four years later. That's how it should be.
