  • lol did he just say that those of us in new zealand black smith in shorts?

  • I wish i was able to learn to do that

  • You have one of the coolest jobs in the world!

I'd really like to buy a knife from you someday. How much would it cost me to make some kind of a survival knife? I need a blade that's pretty thick (1/4 inch thick), 8 inch long, 2 inch wide. I need one side flat so I can hit it with something to help me cut through wood and if you could add teeths on the flat side, that would be great. I would also need something on the tip of the handle to use it as a hammer if possible...How much would it cost?

  • @X0verXDriveX Thanks. I'll be in touch.

  • very nicely made i never knew they burned handles on too .............. question have you ever burned your beard ????

  • @iHasAbucket0246 Thanks, once but that was over an open fire ( camp fire) be well.

  • Haha this is excellent, I subscribed XD

I hate how very little people actually forge the chamfers of blades on youtube, forging them makes them way way stronger I've found anyway :)

  • The knife was nice and cool

  • Cool bladeq

  • PURE TALENT!

  • Scary music, but I like the twinkle in your eye.

  • @sirlordmongus Thanks, the twinkle was an added i movie on my mac :-} be well!

  • id like to have 1..i collect, use, make knives myself but sometimes i see a new 1 and gotta have it :) shoot me a msg

  • @bigaxe87 LOL !!!

  • hahaha cool video i too blacksmith barefoot and without any type of protection gear, and the only thing ive done in 5 yrs is smash my hand with my hammer lol. i subscribed

  • Shit music

  • @Breathor

The singing bugged me, too. Liked the instrumentals, though.

  • @JesusFuckingChrist84 Thanks for the view, enjoy life!

  • @mcusa77

Heh, you too, keep making knives. :)

  • @Breathor When you say shit i think horses, thanks for the inspiration! Be well!

  • amazing, how long would you say it took ?

  • @spr00sem00se Honestly, I can't. However, I once made a pair of creased horseshoes in 13 minutes. It's not how long it took me to make them, it's how long I practiced to where I could make them. So as for the knives, approximately 30 years. I'm a slow learner. Thank you for your interest. Enjoy life.

  • @mcusa77 thats true, you never can tell how much practice went into something

  • you make it look to easy

  • ...Mastercraftsman! So few... So needed!!

  • @SittingMooseShaman Thanks again for the kind words, be well!

  • @VulvasHo Thank you! Will do!! Be well!!!

  • cool video

  • If you want to start smithing what supplies will you need

  • @MrMountainhunter Greetings! Well if you were to purchase a rounding hammer, it's flat on one side & slightly rounded on the other, an anvil or railroad tie or a heavy chunk of steel, a cold hardy & a hot hardy, some flat tongs, with this alone I can make almost anything. Maybe next vid I'll gear it more towards tongs, hammers, etc... Best to you! Be well!

  • @mcusa77 where can you order chunks or rods of metal that would be good for knife making.

  • @MrMountainhunter Good Evening! I would suggest using scrap steel. Anything high carbon, old files, leaf springs, railroad spikes.. I just sent a skinning knife to NY that was made from an old file. This is very cost effective for the beginning smith. Be well.

  • @fire1169101 Man I tell you, I'm having the same problems finding coal.

  • @bigpozzz go to kayne & son blacksmith depot its a web site that has pretty much all your blackksmith needs

  • @lonesoul1203 oh thanks man.

  • @MCusa77 and also with you....No you didn't steer me wrong, I am still very much a beginner...not even a forge yet...it was just a random question I had at the time and I ask when I have them, your leaf blade did give me an idea for a throwing dart...maybe from a train spike, something simple for starters...thanks again

  • @fire1169101 Sorry, I'm tired. I got mine from a place in Oklahoma. They were wanting $1500 for a semi truck load. Off hand I can't remember the name of the place. But if you really want to know, I'll try to get back to you on it. Oh yeah, that was before gas prices got jacked by the way. Be well.

  • @VulvasHo Thank you Russia for your view. As I stated, I was just playing around in the forge with my boys. Call it what you will. Either way, I would love to see some of the knives you make in your homeland. If you're interested in any "real" knives, you can visit my page and if that doesn't suffice, maybe I can do a replica of one of those Russian daggers that you boys throw while you spin in circles. Wish you the best. Enjoy life.

  • @fire1169101 Peace. I personally would use coal over gas. At $500 a ton it's still cheaper & coal mining does less damage than fracking. Contact a local blacksmith guild or pay the $500 I guess. $500 is cheap compared to alot of places. You can always burn some hardwood and make some coal yourself. Best to ya.

  • can you explain why the tang is so narrow?...always hear about the tang being of a certain wieght to balance a blade is that BS?

  • @offenwrong Peace. The weight can be distributed by the weight of the handle as well. Not all my cutlery blades are balanced like one might want for throwing. But they feel balanced in the hand and they carve just as well as any balanced knife. So I guess if you want to use the weight of the tang to help in balancing, you could and I do on some knives. It's all a balancing act and some acts are full of BS. Hopefully, I didn't steer you wrong. Be well.

  • i lOve Smithing

  • did that knife end just melt through the wood like butter????

  • @shkipipow Not store bought butter, home made:-} That is after I drilled a small hole. Be well!!!

  • you should of used it on a spear.... ROMAN themed

  • I think that it would be an arrowhead. a very large arrowhead indeed

  • very good video thanks a lot

  • admkanne, Please no, I'm no bad ass. There's a multitude more meaner than me. I do tan hides however but they usually consist of buffalo, deer, sheep, goats etc...As for the flies, I was just giving you a few examples of what I know can be done with these little darts. Glad you enjoyed the vid. Be well.

  • "or you could use it as a small throwing leaf to kill flies on a wall"

This guy's defiantly one of the biggest bad-asses left in humanity

  • LOL Peggyyabass. Them toes have had a rough life. Since adolescence, they've been jammed, busted, stomped by draft horses, and shed more nails than I can count. I guess if I was vain, I'd go for toe replants. But those faithful funky toes are well broke in and do their job faithfully. I reckon I'll keep 'em around.

  • thems sum funky toes

  • Thanks

  • amazing

  • LOL jpw9000 , the dude behind the hammer was my buddy, he does a fair job, thanks

  • "if your good you can do it with just a hammer" (procedes to do it with only a hammer)

    LOL! good vid

  • Soft coal. If you can't find it, hard coal will work if you break it up. And if you can't find it, just get some hard wood, burn it, and quench it when it becomes charcoal. And if you can't find it, try a sage fire. If you can't find sage, pray, you're gonna have a hard day. Enjoy Life.

  • Also, what's the best coal for a forge?

  • Hay turkeykiller777 I used Recha Glue, just joking. Drill a hole smaller than the tang, burn & quench to keep the wood from burning.Did you make one? I'd love to see it.Be well!

  • How did you get the handle to stay on the tang?

  • Thanks,be well.

  • thumbs up for the song sir!

  • Thanks. If you don't like the music, maybe you'd be interested in purchasing a knife or some fine silver jewelry? Either way, I'm glad you enjoyed the vid. Be well!!!

  • love the hand forging. well done. absolutely hate the song.

  • Damn, now all I need is a forge and an anvil and some steel...and possibly an antler.

  • That's art,Thanks & be well.

  • wow, such a nice guy, i like ppl who work with their hands

  • LOL... No problem, I don't do bacon :-]

  • @mcusa77 no offence but that is probably the most annoying song i have ever heard

  • blacksmithing in shorts with no shoes is like cooking bacon naked, just seems like a bad idea!

  • cool but so redneck

  • Thanks.

  • i forge in shorts all the time, but no shoes is nuckin futs

  • just amazing, really like the most what your saying ´bout not grinding, why waste any metal having a forge a hammer and 2 strong arms. fracking awesome

    and your song´s a keeper ;) i tell ya . . . zaba zaba zaba zaba

dude u rock , stay healthy - all of yours too

  • STstar22, If you've been forging for a while you can use this video and just make it larger and then add what you like. My best advice would be make sure you have some high carbon in it and enjoy your time in the forge. Yes, I have made daggers. At this time my focus is working silver and gold and my Recha design cutlery.Thanks. Be Well.

  • So I have a question, I've been forging things for a while and I came across an intresting design for a dagger. It's called a flame dagger or a kriss blade. I was wondering if you knew how to make one or if you have any tips. Any info helps. Thanks
