  • i can remember when he used to do a roll call of the slain children in atlanta to the intruders save the children, so many memories tony brown is the best i surely miss that era and time!

  • Rest in uhuru (freedom), Mandre, you will never be forgotten!

  • I Love Tony Brown on the Midnight hour in Philly. I love WDAS-FM 105.3 in my home town of philly. Thanks for posting this memory!

  • this is classic philly radio!!! if you under the age of 30, you have no idea but if you 40 and up and lived in the philly, jersey or delaware area and listened to wdas fm at midnight, you knew what it was....

  • Wow,it will never be the same

  • The opening countdown is from Charles Earland, "Leaving This Planet", a killer tune. The song when the "Soft Machine" is activated is Jermaine Jackson's "Castles of Sand".

  • Some of the cuts that were played right before the transition were behind Mitch Gilbert's editorials. Check out MFSB - "My Mood" and Santana - "Tales of Kilimanjaro" for another trip in the Wayback Machine.

  • THIS IS THE JAM...I JUST WAS ASKING ABOUT THIS!!!

  • This is Brown in space....... yeah...man what memories...and he's still doing it... was bad when he hopped over to Power 99 for a bit..but he's back home where he belongs...

  • the best radio ever. i could not sleep until i got beamed abroad at the midnight hour. this the origins of radio progaming for the 'grown and forever sexy '

  • Yesterday listened to the Quiet Storm, via online radio, for the first time in many many years. When the midnight hour came and this song came on, I got teary eyed smiles. So long ago and IT all came back like an old friend. Some 3 hours later, I come to YOU TUBE and I see many others share my sentiments for this small piece of east coast nostalgia. My family back in Chester, Pa. I miss and love you. I hope to see you soon!

  • Yeah, I grew up on this in Philly too, then South Jersey...this brings back lots of memories of the 70's in the Raymond Rosen projects....25th & Diamond...the Valley....Fitzsimons Jr. High School...the good old days or the bad old days, depending how you look at it. Dime bags in small brown "pillows", Pork Yat, and apartments in the projects that sold everything from shots of vodka to loose joints to pork rinds.

  • This is classic Philly radio!!!! Thank you.

  • I never knew Tony Brown was a Star Trek fan! :)

  • There's a song that he used to play every night besides this Mandre's Interlude that I'm dying to find. The only part of the lyrics that I can remember is that midnight kept being repeated in the song. . .I keep hearing how it goes in my head but I can't remember it to look for the lyrics online. It would normally play right before midnight or right after around the time he made his transition to Mandre's Interlude. If anyone knows the name of the song or who it's by, I'd be overjoyed! Thanks!!!

  • @BAinPA I think it was a cut by Charles Earland.

  • Grew up in the Philly area, yoooo this is such a welcomed memory, reminds me of days when life was much simpler and people knew how to enjoy themselves! I live on the other side of the country now but I still catch Tony's transition via my iPhone whenever I get a chance... The west

Coast folks can't relate but it's my little slice of HOME thanks!

  • Where can I download this song?

  • Man, this song takes me back. On the 3 way talking to all my friends and boyfriend. Wow, I miss those days.

  • Always, Tony!

  • I have been looking for this song since 1982. I have it on cassette but no cassette player. This takes me back to being a kid and the best time of my life in Philadelphia. Thanks so much!

  • I remember this as far back as 1978. That entire album cut by Mandre was the monster track up in the dorm room at Hampton U. Back then it was Hampton Institute. This interlude was the second of three parts on that LP side. Great cut!

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWW! This is a throwback!!!!

    Tony Brown is the man!!

    105.3 WDAS-FM Philadelphia!!!

  • Eventhough it has changed ownership several times over the years WDAS FM 105.3 is still on the radio dial and it still sounds good as a matter of fact it sounds better because it's in HD high definition audio and you can still listen to it thanks to the technology of the internet you can hear WDAS FM anywhere in the world and the format never changed when they were bought by clear channel the present owner WDAS is truly Philly's best classic soul and R&B radio station so make sure you check it

  • wdasfm.com has live sreams of their prorams and you'll still hear my man "Anthony Chocolate" and the "transition".

  • TECHNER VIDEO you asked arent you glad I recored this. YES! I really think Ihave to chalk this up to being my FAVORITE find on YOU TUBE. Back in 1981 I worked a third shift job in Philly and we always loved listening to the "Crossover". I miss this sooo much. Brings back such great memoris. So YES - thanks for recording it. If someone doesnt record it you can never get those memories back... but now we have it! THANK YOU for sharing this!

  • @levichick16 Butter ball? If it is the same person I am thinking of he was in Detroit in about 1996-97 at WGPR.

  • Yes Tony Brown is still going strong . 7Pm-12 midnight.

  • ahhh man this brings back some good memories...hec do you have that old jam the WDAS FM Party animals did...it was Lawrence Cut it Lavon, E.C Larock Cutmaster "Butter and Kenny Ebo...if you can post that hell you will be the LEGEND lol i been tryin to find that for YEARS

  • OMG!!!!! Ihaven't heard this version in a long time. That's THE TRANSITION! You have to live in Philly to know this....Mandre, Abstract Funk.

  • @cheyney79 I don't know if they still play this version but I remember listen to this intro in the mid to late 90s working late night at Wawa. Tony's voice is deeper now.

  • what is the name of this song. i have been trying to find the music to this.

  • @Gee755 it took some digging but the name of the tune is entitled "Interlude" by Mandre.

  • WDAS is still kickin' it... What song is that playing in the background..sounds like Mandre.

  • Yes INDEED! The original!! I remember when I called in and requested "Smooth Sailin Tonight" by the Isley Brothers back in 87 to a girl I liked in high school. They said they would give me a shout out instead. Right before midnight Mr. Brown said, "Coordinates are locked on to Kinsey in Willingboro......." I couldn't sleep the rest of the night. Outstanding post and thank you for the memories.

  • I like this video, and it is a nice early quiet storm! As I said in a previouspost I heard about the quiet storm in 1989 at WXLA AM in Lansing. Even though I knew nothing about this format in 1982 it brings back good memories. I was in kindergarten then, and for the most part it was picture perfect school year for me!

  • this brings back soooo many great memories. Every teenage boy thought this was the coolest.

  • That's Straight Philly baby. Ain't nothin' like that in Detroit or no where else. That's how we do it in Philly baby.

  • is this station still on the air? That program came there early. Detroit didn't get that until much later.

  • @manyvideoinerests. The station has been on the air for many years. What program like this is in Detroit?

  • Oh yes! As I said and my phone was acting a little weird arlier but The Quiet Storm didn't come to Michigan until years later. This station still on the air and what about Toney Brown he still around do you know?

  • oh tony brown is mos def still doin his thing on wdas

  • That is really cool! What city did the quiet storm start in? Does WDAS carry any sindicated stuff I.E Tom Joyner or anyone like that?

  • @manyvideoinerests Washington DC WHUR Late Melvin Lindsey

  • @manyvideoinerests still on the air and still going strong even with 107.9 on the scene. Sunday evenings is still jumping with the oldies. Long live Butterball!!!
