  • Maybe the best relaxation song ever...

  • Looking back I've come to consider this piece one of their best.It was very special the first I had heard it. Something about it's hint at minor tone, attitude of the singer and it's simplicity appealed to me. I heard it in my head walking the streets to collect bottles for 2 cent depoist return. Brings back memories of days long gone. Thanks for the post...

  • Dave Guard was such a talented soul. He put his own signature sound on every song he sang especially this one with the twang of that terrific acoustic sound made a unique finish. This is one of the great ones.

  • I have met Bob on a number of occasions in Vegas and yes, he is truly an asshole...

  • 'Hope you never have to meet Bob Shane in person. He is a real asshole...

  • Thanks for posting this truly great song.

  • You can hear Bob Shane tell the story of the song's origin in the video titled "BOB SHANE- SCOTCH AND SODA 8/18/07.

  • I don't know about the story about Seaver's parents, but the copyright lists

    Dave Guard as the composer.

  • Loved it way back when and right now...Huichol53.......

  • reminds me of being a young teenager.....WoW, from back then to today, things sure have changed? Guess I'd prefer the younger days. this was one of my favorites.....Always love these guys, very talented....Huichol53.......

  • Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest he had the pregroup wrong; we obviously saw them at different performances. The trio often played DC.

  • bsanders34 said he saw them at the Carter Barron in DC. I did also, but the pregroup was Stan Getz. Both were excellent! I was 17 and lived with my Kingston Trio albums. Now a couple of my daughters love them too. Thanks for posting this; I have always love it.

  • i sang it dressed as welma flinstone in a crowded bar on halloween! oh me oh my am i higher than a kite can fly! ... i actually had a thirteen year old girl ask me who the flinstones were!! then asked me if the song i sang was from the show! ~sigh~ sad sad how our youth have not be exposed to sucjh wonerful things!

  • My dad use to play this in his convertible, while I sat in the back seat maybe five or six years old. So nostaligic for me and still puts a smile on my face : )

  • thanks for sharing this unbelievable oldie wish music today was this uncomplicated

  • Very seductive song. Just ask my first husband. :)))

  • First time I heard this song was 1968 in a crowded smoky bar. I fell in love with it and listened to it hundreds of times since then. Great song.

  • I remember my parents playing the Kingston Trio when I was a little girl....(born in 1973) and I still can be drawn back to those summer memories of my childhood and smile at the classic good vibes of the Trio! And yes, I still can sing almost all the words to most of the songs. Thank God for cool parents who listen to cool music.

  • @fsu506 me too! my dad loved these guys and this song

  • every time i here this song i will always think of my dad he loved the kingston trio i miss you alot dad rip 1/9/2011

  • i remember listening to that record with my dad and singing this song into a broom handle lol

  • Classiest act ever in show biz: the Trio was headlining at Carter Barron in DC in the late 60's. A young Roger Miller was the 'opener'. After a performance Nick Reynolds came to me and said, 'we're going to let Roger close, instead of us. The people love him!' An amazing act for an amazing act........Better: A CLASS ACT!

  • As a DeeJay of many years, I clearly recall the Trio and this 'cut' from their first album. We played the devil out of it, our audience loved it, but Capitol took a very long time to release it as a single. (As a fact, I'm certain they ever did!) I was present to witness the Trio perform the very classiest act I ever witnessed in more than 45 years in the 'biz'........I'll have to do that at another time.

  • Super Song. One of my favorites. The Kingston Trio had many more songs than just Tom Dooley.

  • Oh, wow, this really takes me bak to better times. Oh, honey...if my walls could have talked while I was enjoying this song. We BOTH loved it. LOL

  • Man, I love this song!

Thanks for posting it, and for the history.

  • have never forgotten the good times when listening to this at Zeke's Burger at the University of North Texas. Thanks for loading this on the tube.

  • . . Scotch and Soda, original recording 1958 . .

  • What a wonderful backstory to this song ! It's kinda sad that someone over 80 years ago wrote a song that scores of people have enjoyed over the years but never knew it. Thanks for posting Nocaro !
