The tempo however seems a little fast for a cradle song "dodo, fais dodo".
1/4 note= 52.
Thanks for the phrasing by pairs of bars as Vierne wrote; many recordings do not have this.
I find the interpretation a little relentless; maybe too much vertical finger action. Perhaps a more legato approach with horizontal thinking for the melody and anticipation of hand movement..
Many thanks for your advices. When I listen back to what I recorded I feel exactly the same. That was my first attempt to record something I play myself and well, the recorder really is a merciless tool!
I hope to have enough time in August to make a better version of this one. I still lack some skill to use the expression box in real time but I will practice it.
How about some information on the instrument? And where in Paris is St. Jacques de HautPas? I thought I knew Paris pretty well (for an American who only makes it over there every few years), but I missed this C-C organ. It's obviously not very large, but a small C-C is better than most other instruments of any size ;-)
St. Jacques du Haut Pas is located in the 5th district (arrondissement), 252 rue Saint-Jacques. I couldnt find English references for the chancel organ but you can find some informations by doing a google search using the keywords:
This C-C organ is quite small indeed (2 keyboards, 14 stops). It was a private order for a Baron (I do not remember his name), then it went to the Sorbonne until it was brought in St. Jacques church not long ago. I really appreciate its sound, it is kind of neo-romantic fashion.
Currently, some stops are out of tune and there are some minor mechanical problems, it should hopefully be revised soon. It is quite "physically difficult" to play, since the keys must be pressed very hard.
As I also commented on the Delacour berceuse recording: Tranquillity is a must! Settle much more on the unison parts. The whole ending part is also (in my opinion) better played with great pauses and a more "artistic" interpretation.
Overall a nice performance though, but a bit untidy in some parts. The piece is much more difficult to perform beautifully than it first apperars.
Indeed I'm starting organ over again after having stopped playing for several years (due to my studies...). That is why I still lack precision, but my fingers are getting it back, slowly!
Aside from the tempo this is quite nice. Especially for the first time recording it.
Vierne's music is something that needs to be emphasized with pure emotion and not just played.
I never knew Cavaille-coll made organs like this. I have to say that its quite nice hearing one of his smaller organs.

Do you know that a crescendo from the swell box is not linear? The first 1/4 of the movement of the pedalhas as much effect as the remaining 3/4.
Il faut insister que les jalousies soient parfaitement hermétiques quand fermées et que les pivots sont bien graissés.

Oui, c'est une petite merveille. J'espère que la mairie va continuer à l'entretenir.
