@willfred8706 thanks... lol i went catfishin 2 days ago and caught nuthin. we used cut up shiners and some dough bait i homemade.... tuna, syrup, penut butter, ground frosted miny wheats, flour, and some cotton.... im not sure if it was the bait of where i was
@ambersteven69 where I'm at, there aren't that big of cat. if i was using a 5-7 ot hook people would ask me if I was frickin shark fishing. I have a much nicer abu garcia setup that I use when I go places where there are bigger cat.
Yeah, go for it! I used anything from cut bait(suckers and carp) to live chubs to live bluegill, haven't tried any of the dough yet this year. Good luck, let me know how you do!
you must not catch them big, no offence, but i am using oz. egg or no roll sinkers, in a santee rig or a 3 way rig, with a 5-7 ought kale or circle, somtimes a sickle... tght lines.. also the geats on those shakespears suck, get you a quatium reel and a white ugly stick 8 foot cat rod.. unless you just have or want little cats
Hey man nice video, A tip the hooks that you have are like 3-4 bucks the same brank but in circle hooks are only like $1 more and they work way better. Another tip i use 12 for bass but 12 will work for the cats too but it will be harder to get a big one on it try like 20lb doesent matter what kind you use tho i like green. p.s. ALWAYS USE A RED HOOK! lol
you shouldnt use a split shot weight ! its is good for catching smaller fish but when you get any thing bigger than 2 pounds it puts a lot of tention on the line. what i recomend to do is buy some beads from your tackel store and put one or 2 above the weight that way you wont put any unwanted stress on the line its self. if you want to have your pait above the weight you should just carolina rig it
(with out the float). it may be just a little more expencive but its deffinantly worth it.
That rod and reel combo is a great value, though i must say my reels falling apart. that is ofcourse after catching a 22# rock fish, a 10 pound Channel, and several 5# or less cats. I fish the cumberland river in TN.
you know what i find helpful when fishin for channel catties, english hooks and chicken livers, and i put two small spit shots about 5 inches above the hook, and tten inches above that, ill put a bobber, it works for me all the time, i like to go out rite before tide goes out, best time!
The only reason I turn it that way is because when the water is low, it is less likely to catch on anything (rocks, trees) if it drags on the bottom. When the water is at its normal level, I don't have to worry about any of that though. Nice vids by the way.
@willfred8706 yea man just a tip, on that big rod and reel your not using its full potential. you need about 20 pound mono on there or 30 pound braid. it will still cast plenty far, but 12 is way to low for that hoss.
@TheAvidCatfisherman was using 12 just so i could fit more line on there and not be relining as much. even with 12 lb test i was relining 4-5 times/year for each reel i own. fishin 5-6 days/ week does that to ya. i have 20 on there now.
works the same with braid? how's that stren btw?

Try using your bullet sinker the other way round . besides that, thats just about the same rig I use for channels, simple to rig also.
