  • Thank you for All videos!

  • NiCE PERSPECTiVE...Thnx!!!(Mtl.)

  • quite some black humor at the end :I

  • This is the only thing I didn´t try yet: to listen a sitting bald with 2 candles and what seems to be a Buda picture behind him for 1 hour, 11 minutes and 11 seconds.

I´ll give it a shot. Hope this one works.

  • Very good talk, very insightful it opened my eyes to a lot of things, thank you very much.

  • I love the metaphor of the two bad bricks and the 998 good bricks in the wall. We should try to see the beauty of the good one. This really helped me.

  • people might be wrong about the whole depression theory. It's very difficult to prove

  • Thank you for your videos, i'm going through a really difficult time right now. It really helps knowing that it will pass! Please keep up the good work.

  • Worst part of modern life is not finding enough time to relax I myself haven't had time to meditate and have strayed from the path of right mindfulness ...Buddha is the way and the light and I need to get back on the path of meditation

  • I loved that depression joke :D

  • I just like to sprays you for this nice and truthful talk,Please keep on going on in live talking. You are like an Angel.

  • Anyone know if there are any videos of Ajahn leading meditations?

  • Sadhu, sadhu, sadhu. May u achieve arahantship soon. Buddha's path has changed my life a lot. Thank u.

  • Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu...

  • 11111

  • I'd like to add-(I just saw the part where he talked about fault-finding in modern society) don't underestimate the effects of media and advertising in the fault-finding phenomenon.

They unconsciously and perpetually are sending us the message that we are not good enough in order to fuel our desires to buy products.

  • Absolutely hysterical that, after an hour proposing that we focus on the positives, that the first question would be to know "Where is your mistake?" And now I am doing the same thing!!!! lol!!!! Thanks for talk.

  • i would run out of stuff to say after 2 mins

  • 50:38 "..Life ISN'T meant to be totally PERFECT...

  • 1:11:11 i like that

  • Hvala vam što ste podjelili sa nama.

  • I've got a good cure for (mild) depression...purchase a copy of "Mindfulness, Bliss and Beyond" by Ajahn Brahm, read it and practise anapanasati every morning of your life...works for me, anyway.

  • its a shame i don't have the funds to travel to see Ajahn Brahm in person and hear his talks. youtube will have to do until than.

  • @toastybeer I'm in a similar situation. This guy is really one of the best buddhist teachers I've listened to. But you know it doesn't have to be THIS monk in particular. The source for his wisdom is theravada buddhism and there happens to be a temple in the town next to mine. So I'm considering it's time to visit an old friend there again who has brought an amazing transformation into my life. Maybe you can find a theravada temple near your place, too?

  • joy at last to know there's no happniess in this world....

  • what you get you should give.

that is so right.. we are too often thinking that what you give is what you get, but offcourse it is also the opposite.. the good stuff we get is what we should give others too.

  • We're all shit collectors ! :)

  • I am so thank full to ven ajahn brahmawanso for his advises and I also thank you to the person who upload this clip to you tupe.

  • i was most happy person, most! Loved life totally, then i lost my loved one who i loved most. I fell to depression. I feel so bad. I hope someone could pull me out from here... its so bad.

  • @riling I don't know who you might of lost but I might know what you're going through. I lost my wife 5 years ago to cancer. There are a few of these videos that deal with death.. but one that might be good for you is "Impermanence: everything will be alright".

one of the things that we all must learn is that only we can truly make ourselves happy, everything and everyone around is is subject to Impermanence.

  • Wow, I have been watching your videos for the past few days and I must say, you ajahn brahm have really opened my eyes in a way no person or book ever has. Your teachings I will carry on forever. So thank you, for sharing these wonderful words with the world. Because the world definatly needs it! :)

  • Thank you, I needed to hear this!

  • It seems that once we become mindful, we are able to clearly see what our options are when we wake up each day. With this, we can do things that uplift and inspire ourselves so that our day will be a positive and joyful one. This of course may not be true for those who suffer from clinical depression but instead for those who get down often about things.

  • @JohnCKimbrough Well said!

  • Thank you so much for this video. I have been suffering from PTSD and survivors guilt. I will try and keep your teachings close to my heart to move forward without all the "shit" that I have been carrying.

  • @TheIggy457 tried, doesn't work.

  • @TheIggy457 This is NOT a place for a fanatic Christian!Man I am so fed up with you people,I am sorry to say that but I am disgusted with the lack of respect of the Christians, specially with those so called "evangelics" who insist on pushing their garbage upon people that hold a different point of view. This is one of the reasons I have left Christianity 10 years ago.Do us a favor:Stay in your little world and keep the "salvation" through Jesus to yourself. Keep Jesus "the flying Jew" to yourself

  • @ray180597 Awwww.. come on! thats a little harsh!

  • @beaterfred Harsh? No,no... Go to JEWISH videos,MUSLIMS videos,HINDU videos,BUDHIST videos,PAGAN / WICCA Videos and check it out ! There is always an INTOLERANT FANATIC CHRISTIAN repeating the same old bullshit: "Jesus is the ONLY way", " Jesus havedied for you", Jesus is the only true God", "Salvation is only through Jesus"...Jesus this, Jesus that....FUCK JESUS! Their IDIOCY is over the top! There is a limit for all things,ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! How can a DEAD DUMB JEW "save" the world? Pure Crap!

  • @ray180597 whoa, chill! lol! Don't let it bother you!

I know a lot of people for whom Christianity has worked. We are all different and have been brought up in different ways, and different religions work for different people. I know it can be annoying sometimes, but just let it go! :)

Besides Thelggy457 here wasn't really disrespectful. He is just trying to promote what he thinks is the right way, and besides he said bless you, so lets bless him too and all be friends, whaddaya say! :D

  • @beaterfred What if I go to the Christian videos and keep repeating ACCEPT KRISHNA,ACCEPT VISHNU,ACCEPT BRAHMAN,ACCEPT ALLAH, ACCEPT BUDDHA, ACCEPT ZEUS, ACCEPT THOR, ACCEPT APOLLO, ACCEPT POSEIDON, ACCEPT ALL THE THE OTHER "GODS".... How will they feel??

Sorry, but these Christians are really a big pain in the ass.

  • @ray180597 Raging on a Buddhist video. Are you going for the Most Ironic Comment prize? ^^

  • @TheIggy457

Hardly 100%... what about all the millions of people who tried and then became (or stayed) agnostic or atheist or found a different religion instead?

  • Nice to know I can down-load the talks from your web sight to my mp3 player.

  • "998 of good bricks"

    "basket of good eggs"

    "15 seconds of praise"

    "meditate to let go"

    "craving is unfaithful"

"let it be, energy will come back"

GREAT TALKS. THANK YOU AJAHN BRAHM!

    Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!

  • Honestly, I don't know how many times me and other people tell me that things will "Pass"

I'm still depressed after 2 years, shit doesn't pass, at all.

  • @FlamingForce Sometimes it takes a lot longer than 2 years, but its eventual passage is guaranteed

  • @FlamingForce face it like a man .you r the cause n you deserve it. nobody else.your depression will goes now. right? if not you r just a miserable sort.(sorry just trying to help)

  • @yongteikseng You know nothing about me, don't jump to conclusions.

  • @FlamingForce is that because your still being a shit collector and not changing the way you look at things. Your obviously a very smart person to have watched this, remember not to ask from the world that it can never give you. trust me it will pass because you will die = ) so there's always something to smile about mate.

  • @FlamingForce Hey! I too have been depressed for about 5 months now, and while the passing of the s*** seems to be happening at snail pace, I am positive it will eventually. If you believe it wont pass, and if you believe everything is worthless, then nothing will cheer u up. Just 2 days ago I lay awake crying feeling utterly useless! It took a good friend's harsh words to make me break through the the-world-hates-me, happiness-is-a-delusion phase I was going through. Hope you are better now! :)

  • I've listened to several of his dhamma talks and I must say he's one of the best I've heard.I don't often get to hear the dhamma talks in english so its a nice change, and I glad i get the opportunity to listen to your videos. its greatly appreciated. thank you and keep up the good work you deserve it :]

  • 'You're all shit collectors!' ^^

  • is this not a recipe for denial.

  • @lyntonio Isn't it denial when you dismiss all the goods things happening in life? One doesn't have to deny the mistakes they make, they simply must acknowledge then, forgive themselves for it and do their best to learn from it, then move on and try not to make the same mistake again. As he said in the talk, trying to not be depressed and continuing to try harder will only perpetuate your depression because you're not taking the time to step back and actually learn from what happened.

  • Thanks, Teacher Brahm. This Damma talk reminds me of another you gave titled "Talk You Way To Happiness" or sometime like that. The cool thing about really big picture thinking, or Buddhism, if thats what you want to call it, is the realization or understand that we have the ability to brainwash ourselves. In my opinion following the "Eight Fold Path" is a wonderful way to accomplish this because it is good for the practitioner and the World as a whole. True happiness or good kamma.

  • 1:11:11 ;)

  • I absolutely love this man. Words of wisdom, thank you Ajahn Brahm.

  • Love listening to Ajann Brahm talk... He is the best.......

  • if we keep believing,'i've got depression', not only have we allowed ourselves to be depressed, we've also put limitations on oursleves. labelling is very powerful. a wiser way of thinking is,'i WAS like that. but what can i do now to make things better?' if nothing works, then think,'this too will pass'. and it will. and it's not like i don't know what depression is like. i've been in a psychiatric ward for depression and attempting suicide and am still recovering physically.

  • even if there're 1000 bad bricks, getting negative doesn't make things any better. however, it's a habitual & common response. however, until we understand that being negative & beating ourselves up not only doesn't improve our situation, but creates the causes for more suffering, we won't even try to change our attitudes towards the terrible stuff that happens in life. changing our attitudes is not easy either. stop identifying with/believing our past self image & give ourselves a new chance.

  • @wayamat ok I see Im not on the same page as most here - If u have not experianced serious depression, Like I have and do - then U cannot understand. My orginal critisism was on the begining of the talk, the dude there suggested ppl who have serious depression should seek help (and I agree) but thats pretty much what buddism can do for those. ANY1 with half a brain can tell ppl that. NO he goes on and speaks of "milder" ones for all u happy campers out there, whose noses are too big and such.

  • @MrVoid77: Certain ways of thinking & viewing the world predispose people to depression. As such ways of thinking become habitual, the chances of suffering depression increase. It is best to prevent depression by not getting into such patterns. "The dude there" (Ajahn Brahm) was trying to point out a few such patterns of thought. People with mild depression can hopefully avoid getting severe depression using his ideas. He was not trying to describe some instant cure for depression

  • I have done so many bad things in the past in terms of karma.I have also done few good things which I can always recall and be happy of.

we all are just average humans who are trying hard to obtain all sorts of happiness by indulging and possessing physical objects.

What amaze me is that these monks are living without no luxury what so ever and still managed to be happy and experience more happiness by meditating and giving thing up.

till the day we all die, we will be chasing happiness...!

  • @garouHH Im not saying Buddism is useless against depression, for example I am reminded of Leonard Choen the singer/poet who spends time in Zen monastery every now and then, and he is with this clinical depression. However when some1 says "depression" I take it as Major depressive disorder, commonly called "depression" - I do not like it when ppl use the term loosly, its like saying u have stomach cancer, when ur tummy is hurting bc of too much candy, hence my exapmle of luxury problems.

  • @MrVoid77

Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity ...Wikipedia .

Wikipedia also go,s on to list a range of symptoms ranging from very mild to very server .

trivializing people people with mild depression is very unhelpful .

using terminology such as "self pity "and such attitudes can often cause people to hide there problems and add to them by further eroding there self esteem .

like most problems left unchecked even mild depression for some people will get a lot worse .

  • This too shall pass.

  • I always tend to forget, actually I have the choice to choose , to be depressed or to be happy. Thank you Ajahn Brahm.

  • You be amazed how much "suffering" could be eliminated if ppl just stoped feeling sorry for themselfs. We westerners have grown a habit of feeling sorry for ourselfs and dabbling in luxury problems, flirting with all kinds of nonsense. Take the years before the world economy crisis hit us, like 2006 - is it really "suffering" to feel envy -or being depressed -- over something like ur neighboor has a better sterios, or a bigger car etc.. (or ur nose is too big!). I guess it isand its delusion

  • I truly admire Ajahn Brahm. What has this man done to earn himself this kinda wisdom?

  • @ctyuang

He spent a lot of time alone getting to know himself. And what he found to help himself he uses to help us like a noble Bodhisattva.

  • @ctyuang Sat still

  • @ctyuang self-improvement.

  • @ctyuang he follows the path that the buddha showed 2554 years ago.

  • @ctyuang Years of hours and hours of meditation.

  • @waymat Where do I say "I have a complete understanding of the human condition" and why do u asume that im "looking up depression" on the net? I subscribe to that channel and ive listen to almost all of Ajhan Brahm talks he has given on the channel here. Dont get me wrong I am not flaming at this great monk, I simply disagree, and have every right to do so. -- Metta

  • @MrVoid77 in your post you are so quick trivialize the problems and suffering of others unless it shapes up to your opinion or experience of depression

so i figure you must be clamming some .

  • i love BSWA helped me through so much in life and my journey

  • I mean no disrespect, but I don't understand this one term he keeps saying. It seems as though he's saying "fore fighting". Is he? And, what does that mean?

  • @tigerborn62 He is saying "fault finding"

  • @sashazeitlich THANK YOU!

  • @tigerborn62 Forefinding

  • @MsYoshie he says faultfinding actually

  • @sl2mmer Of course, you're right :-)

  • buddhism have truth but not whole truth is 1/8th the truth truth no its a lie

  • This made me kinda angry -the only real depression to speak of is the one he talks of at the very begning, and tells ppl to seek a doctor, very well. Then buddism cant do anything for those ? (if so then lets just stick to healthcare tips and professionals)

All the rest are simply luxury problems of whiny ppl, like "my nose is too big" (no ur pathetic selfpity is too big!) Self pity is not depression. If you know how it is to be depressed and cant move cant get out of bed u will laugh at this

  • @MrVoid77 wow it must be fantastic for you having a complete understanding of the human condition .

but why are you looking up depression on the net ?

  • @MrVoid77

    > Then buddism cant do anything for those?

While I'd be thrilled to see research papers on that, I do doubt that it can overcome severe neurochemical imbalances, and even more so that it'd be as quick and effective about it as psychopharmaka are.

    > Self pity is not depression.

Whatever the source, the suffering is real, and as suffering is subjective, trying to objectify it is neither helpful nor compassionate. "You don't know real depression!" won't heal anybody.

  • "Human mind is naturally fault finding"

With ourselves AND others. This is why forgivness FOR ourselves AND others is soooooo important when the tendancy is to "salt into the wounds" of other people and not letting them off the hook when they've fallen short.

  • What about Tony Robbins for the feasible and the Buddha for the infeasible?

  • Human mind is natrually fault finding. It's human nature to make things better than how they are right now. I think it all because we are designed to be perfectionists once we are commited to something. It's hard to let go of the desires to make things better.

  • @Ashitanoyuki we are not designed to be perfect, our environment expects it off us, if you are an egotist you will play to your environment, if you are a spiritualist external has no influence as the ego is tamed. if someone rejects you for a cause then your attention is focused to that cause, if someone accepts you for that same cause you were rejected for previously suddenly your perception of it bends, the external truths always are false, the internal concrete ones are peaceful and constant.
