  • i actually love both these classics, but the Mustang just looked mean, like an angry horse!

  • In my opinion, 68 Mustang fastback is far sexier than the bulkier, and heavier charger (though tough as a bull) something a redneck can appreciate (dukes of hazard)

  • Best looking Mustang! Thumbs up!

  • The Charger couldn't handle the hard turns. It ran into the camera in one shot. MATE.

  • Badass

  • I actually drove that car in the movie.Yes,I was 8 yrs old but they said I was the next Jeff Gordon who was 2 at the time.Steve looked down, shook my hand telling me I was a driving fool. I saw the pile of cocaine and 4 hookers behind him and said,"Steve, never get tween a dog and his bone"I was a natural but the drugs and women cut me down in my prime, before 3rd grade.I now raise spider monkeys in south carolina

  • MY DREAM CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That car is beautiful, only thing I'd change is the seats.

  • i met the owners of gcm today

  • its the original Bullitt mustang???

  • @94Twitty no the original is sitting in a barn and will never be for sell

  • both cars were heavily modified for the scenes....

  • @rolex427sc The mustang was worked so it could keep up with the Charger......the Charger was a standard 440 4speed R\T

  • @68bobba no the car was tuned for the raceing driver so he could keep control of it because there was only 2 donated by ford and not only that on the 14 december 1977 Steve McQueen tryed to buy the last remaining film car from someone but the owner refused the offer

  • @BRAV0TWOZER0 What are you talking about mate?....what racing driver?....the only thing the mustang had on the Charger was handling(being a smaller car)....Steve Mcqueen hired his own mechanic(Max Balchowsky) to work the engine on the Mustang so it could keep up with the Charger....just as well they didn,t get a Hemi Charger

  • @68bobba yeah and just because it has a hemi don't mean it is quicker... because the chargers are well know to be heavy... for god sake how blind are you to not figure out the entire car is made out of steel...

  • @BRAV0TWOZER0 It wasn,t a Hemi mate....it was a 440 Magnum,and it was heaps quicker

  • @68bobba good point... my mistake but it don't mean that it was masively quicker i mean look at the race between the general lee and the double o... it explains everything... and both cars are stock...

  • @68bobba Bull crap - they were both worked over and the Charger still couldn't handle or brake worth a damn. You'll see that in the movie.

  • @1967mustanggta both were worked my arse!!....whered you get that bullshit from mate?....the Charger looked like it handled pretty good to me...ever driven a Charger mate?...they handle ok,for a big car...I owned a 68 for 4 years...you don,t know what your talking about

  • THE GREATEST CHASE OF ALL

An inside look at how they filmed BULLITT, the granddaddy of car pursuit movies.

BY: Susan Encinas (Muscle Car Review, March, 1987)

The Dodge, which was practically stock, just left the Mustang like you wouldn't believe." Ron Riner has similar recollections. "The Charger ran rings around the Mustang. We trimmed the tires down (on the Charger), we practically made them down to bicycle tires to try and handicap Hickman, and Bill just run them."

  • @JackFlemingFan yes it is my friend........of course the charger blew away the mustang....bigger engine = higher speeds....shit load of more torque= more acceleration....the only problem was the handling...but both cars suffered from that

  • what?? no FE???

  • So, the original 68' Mustang Bullit have 450 horse after de modifications?

  • No, the original 390ci, probably only had 300 or so. We chose the Ford 347ci because at the time no big block crates were available, and everybody agreed that the car should have a Ford engine in it.

  • No, the 390 that the original (well, the TWO originals) had in it made about 325 HP. Of course, just like the guy in this video said, that was Ford's rating. Ford almost always underrated HP and TQ. Actual output of original was around 410 RWHP.

They never modded the Engine in the movie cars. For both cars they used in the movie, all they did was add Koni shocks and stiffen up the suspension so it could take the hits going down the huge San Francisco hills.

  • Remenber that I asked, "after the modifications" I already know that, the 390 100% stock original had 325hp, but the Mustang used in the Bullit movie with Steve Mcqueen aren't 100% stock original, right?

I watched a british TV program from BBC called Top Gear where they especulates that Mustang used in the film had someting around 450 horses...

  • I already told you. xD

The ENGINES in the movie were stock. The SUSPENSION was not.

In that Top Gear episode (i love that show) the actual car Jeremy Clarkson is driving had 450 horses, NOT the original ones.

  • No, besides the suspesion, the muffler (where came that scary V8 noise) and the carburator was changed (The carburator for the 68 Mustang Bullit is a Four-Barrel Holley replaced the original one)

-Another modification, a closer gear ratio

A pure 100% stock 390 Mustang can't get a 440 Charger, The classic mopar in the film don't have engine modifications only the suspesion, just like you said about Mustang, I believe you confusing the modifications in both cars, no offense...

  • No, i actually have a book describing all the famous TV cars (Bullitt, General Lee, Starsky and Hutch Torino, etc.).

It says in the book that the only mod on the Mustang besides the suspension was the exhaust, but that only made it sound different.

Like i said: Ford HIGHLY underratted their engines, because the Mustang was faster stock then the Charger.

  • The 390 figures is not that impressive about high 7s into the 60mph acceleration and high 15s in the quarter mile according with 1960's magazines tests...

I stand for my point of view, no way that 68 mustang Bullit was stock if that car don't have 450 horse, at least, just watching that machine running on the film, it must had more 50 ou 60 plus horsepower, and a very close gear ratio modification.

  • I know, but Ford UNDERRATED their engines! It was rated at 325, but it actually made close to 410 RWHP, with no mods. The 440 was NOT underrated, it produced only ~375 RWHP.

And it would have to have LONG gears, because they ran around 120 MPH in the movie.

  • -And you are wrong, is possible to get some hp with muffler modifications, besides that car even had a muffler just the tail exhaust, without a muffler the engine produces that huge and incredible sound...

  • I know it is POSSIBLE, but they DID NOT. Just because its possible doesn't mean it happens EVERY time...

    Please learn about cars.

  • Jonh Ebert Review - December 23, 1968:

"Ford Motor Company and part of a promotional loan agreement with Warner Bros. The Mustangs' engines, brakes and suspensions were heavily modified for the chase by veteran car racer Max Balchowsky."

...Engines, brakes, and suspesions were heavily modified, I hope your had learn someting, closed case.

  • Who is Jonh Ebert?

    Was he a movie reviewer?

If so, I can review the movie for you too: Mustangs only had better suspensions.

  • Learn about cars??? You say to me that 390 stock mustang have 410 hp and I suppost to believe? A 390 Mustang takes a eternity os 15s to run the quarter mile, if this car had 410hp it was capable to do times between 13 low,/mid 13 seconds...

Not even every muscle car had your power overrating...

  • ***I mean overrated

  • I know, only Ford overrated.

    Now please learn history...
