  • Yuck!

  • I must admit, I got a copy of this on VHS about 10 years ago and didn't realise what I'd picked up. In retrospect its a nice homage to some of the original work with Sid James, such as the Cruise episode.

Anyway - happy to help :)

  • Cool! Never would've noticed the pattern of his jacket otherwise lol God he is so cute.. Thanks for putting this up, Matthew :o)

Tony himself had something interesting to say about colour when The Punch & Judy Man came out:

"The new film is not in colour. Colour slows down comedy. It is too peaceful. The Rebel had to be made in colour because of the paintings. Some films have to be made in black and white; look at the wonderful quality they got out of Sweet Smell of Success."

  • I honestly have no idea what he means by "too peaceful"..

  • I think I know. Perhaps he was harkening back to the days of silent film?

Either way, I just tend to see the colours now by rote. Its quite annoying,l but by brain is starting to fill in the gaps. I watched 'The Ladies Man' the other night and spend ages toying with what colour Sid James' tie was! :)

  • "By rote"?! I need my dictionary lol

channel537 uploaded both of Tony's movies, sadly that account has been disabled :( Anyway, it was just weird at first seeing Tony in colour in The Rebel! And now I'm dying to know what colour his eyes were lol I just couldn't make them out.. Would you by any chance know?!

Like Tony you come off as a bit of a perfectionist (in a good way!).. Me I would probably go crackers doing what you do :-p

  • I've got the Australian film he did in the attic, so will look back and let you know. I'm pretty sure he was slightly tanned with blue/green eyes, but can't recollect.

    Perfectionist - moi?! lol

I've had a lot of people slating Colourisation for a good many years now. Atm I'm just thinking - what the hell! Its all good fun :)

  • Me, personally, I have nothing against it, as long as it doesn't REPLACE the original B&W! Meaning I'd prefer both versions to co-exist peacefully side by side lol

You have his film do you.. *puts on begging face*

Oh please, pwetty please *big puppy eyes*

  • And another question..

How come every Tony Hancock fan I've ever come across on YouTube happens to be male?! Does one need a Y-chromosome in order to relate to him or truly appreciate his genius?! AM I THE ONLY GIRL OUT THERE?! lol

  • Well, for me, I'm actually like that in real life! I just think its good, well written comedy.

  • This youtube thread won't let me post direct links, but if you do a youtube search for "Tony Hancock, The Final Series, Australia 1968" there are a number of clips from the series already up here.

  • Nearly forgotten about those, thanks. They're so sad!

Because they're not very funny & Tony is just trying so hard - they just recylced all the old material & not very well for that matter. Oh! My account got deleted.. all 1,000 subs & all *sniff* so starting over :o)

  • This was very quickly put together, so I know I need to work a little more on Tony's hair. Also the encoding appears to have made the skin tone pinker than appears on the project file.

Nevertheless, if anyone has different ideas on colours to use, esp the tie, please let me know.
