@starfyre05 I can't determine whether you're advocating spanking or not. I'm an advocate of it, but I don't think any amount of spanking would have helped Rhoda. Exorcism or lightning are about the only options, if you ask me ;)
@Kari166 Work in a daycare for a week and I think you may change your mind. I see at least three displays of this sort of pre-murderous behavior a day. Haha.
@DestroyerNr55 It's about a little girl Rhoda Penmark who happens to be a serial killer. People seem to die when she wants something they have-such as the little boy, Claude Degal, who won their school's penmanship medal, and a former neighbor where Rhoda's family previously lived who 'accidently' fell down a flight of stairs.
My favorite movies about evil Children and teenagers. The Bad Seed/ Rhoda; The Good son/ Henry; Orphan/ Ester; Mildred Pierce/ Veda; Devil in the Flesh/ Debbie; The Omen/ Damian. These evil Children rocked!
'The Bad Seed' is one of the most badly acted films of all time--but, like Valley of the Dolls, its SO unintentionally bad its good! (that's the definition of 'camp', by the way). Hilarious, really. Alone in the cast, only Henry Jones seems to understand that none of this drivel should be taken seriously--and he steals the movie from everyone!! He should have gotten an Oscar nomination!
@windstorm1000 'Stagey' - yes. But, to call Ms. McCormack's perfomance (in particular) 'badly acted' is to have no idea how FEW child actors ther have been who COULD act. Very, very few. Ms. McCormack's Rhoda was - IS - STILL utterly beguiling, in it;s cloying sweetnes, but, hiding UTTER evil at the drop of a hat - and when she switches from good to evil - wow. As far as the other actors performances go, I've seen their work - it's a personal choice. Bad acting? No. Stagey? Yes.
great movie seen it a few years ago been trying to get it on dvd and can not find it my 17 year old son laughs when she tells leroy to give back the shoes love the movie
I love this movie my mom made me watch it as a kid and ive loved it ever since...that rhoda was one bad lil bitch but was so sweet and pleasant...thats what threw everyone off except of course leroy and u see what happened to him...lol
I remember being a little creeped out by this movie when I first saw it, but this trailer seemed a little weak. It's better than the trailer makes it seem.
One of my favorite films. Who cares if it's black and white, from the fifties. Very gripping, and to realize the child is really that evil. Why it was remade is beyond me, also it being compared to The Good Son is kinda annoying.
Nancy Kelly...she was way too old for this part..she looks like William Hoppers mother as opposed to his wife..and the man who plays her father looks younger than she does...
@MPL029 Nancy was only 35 at the time and Hopper was 41 I guess you figured her look was too old Any actress under 30 at the time may have been too young to believably play Patty's mother. And you thought Paul Fix[from Rifleman fame] looked younger than Nancy? That's harsh .. Glad Miss Kelly isn't around to read this
@lpvcrcd not meaning to be harsh..just telling it like it is..she looks much older than 35..and much older than Hopper...chronlogically it doesnt matter..its all in their appearance..and perhaps she doesnt look younger than the actor who portrays her father..but more his contemporary than his daughter.
@MPL029 true she doesn't have a youthful look. "Tired "would be the adjective I suppose if one could recast in their head Eleanor Parker comes to mind She would have been 34 but more youthful befitting Hopper's wife[and an excellent actress]. But Kelly played it with gusto and you can't rewrite Hollywood history. Take care!
