Taxing and laws are vital parts of government's functioning and without such "losses" of freedom there would be no government and no security either. Its important to divide power to many different parties so power can't be used only by one group of like-minded politicians, which could lead to things similar to patriot act. USA needs more bureaucracy e.g. more parties.

The patriot act is borderlines of having a dictatorship/communist government where you don't have any power against the system. The Constitution was put in place to prevent the over powering of government onto its citizen. The government keeps taking steps to rid its citizen of their rights. This will disassemble the USA as other empires have done in the past. I thought Obama would had been straight with this since he was a constitutional law professor at the University of Chicago.

The patriot act does just that, also allowing many other officials (most of whom you dont even know the names of) to spy on people and imprison them and squelch them. The governments job is not to prevent, " chaos" as you called it. Our founding fathers favored the occasional revolution to keep us honest. And in america we protect our own family and rights: the right to bear arms.
What you talk about is a perfect system in a perfect world, unfortunately we as a people are far from perfect.

My phrase was meant to point out that you can't have both the security which the PATRIOT Act has to offer and still have those liberties which it minimizes. I consider them minor because you are not directly affected by the restriction of these rights. suspicious threats, however, indeed are. which brings me back: are you willing to sacrifice the safety of your citizens in order to maintain these rights?

the Patriot Act was written and signed into law on Oct 26th of 2001...the PA is made up of 100's of modifications of laws to make it easier to spy on people and gather evidence ..how did they get this massive complex bill written in such a short time ??
