I myself would never get an abortion, but I think that if you were to be RAPED, not drunk at a party, and got pregnant then that would be an understandable thing. I personally don't think that I would be able to deal with the constant reminder of a traumatic experience like that. Honestly I think a lot of moms would end up abusing the child, or not take care of themselves/baby while it's growing because of how it was conceived.

They don't really obtain a heartbeat or central nervous system until 5 weeks, after that they can feel pain. I realise that I'm fortunate - I'm happily married, we have good secure jobs and no reason to worry if I became pregnant. I'm a nurse and have sat with women who want abortions - I know the majority don't make the decision lightly. But the thought of killing a baby - it makes me so sad - I know how i feel.

If a mother is abusing drugs for instance - the protection of childrens act comes into play (in the UK anyway). I only found that pout at mandatory training yesterday.

I myself would never get an abortion, but I think that if you were to be RAPED, not drunk at a party, and got pregnant then that would be an understandable thing. I personally don't think that I would be able to deal with the constant reminder of a traumatic experience like that. Honestly I think a lot of moms would end up abusing the child, or not take care of themselves/baby while it's growing because of how it was conceived.

I believe that every person has the right to choose whether or not they should get an abortion, but that doesn't mean that I think that they're ok. I was just thinking a man who knowingly kills a pregnant woman can get charged with two counts of murder. Idk just thought I'd put it out there...and there are very few states that have laws against women using drugs while pregnant ....so when does a baby have rights???

~~~~~~~~~~ Thats because the women is the ONLY one who can decide her fetuses fate. In the law, a fetus is always determined to become a legal human being unless the mother decided against that. A "baby" always has rights, a fetus never does.

@gemineyedragons Someone facing murder charges must go on trial. If the killer knew that she was pregnant, that would add to the malevolence of the crime. It would even be harder for her to defend herself while being encumbered by pregnancy. Each murder is decided on case by case. Are you concerned for the woman or just the baby's rights. If the women dies, you know that the baby has to die!

people who are against abortion are merely ignorant and ego-centrical. Just because you believe in the soul doesn't mean that your beliefs should be forced on others. You can never truly know whether you would or would not have an abortion until you are put in that position. I know a woman who had to make the decision to abort and the emotional hardship that she struggled through was heart wrenching but in the end it was the right decision for the rest of her family. @3012susanna I'm against abortion for numerous reasons, and I don't appreciate being told I'm ignorant or egocentric for it. I do not spend my time going around telling women planning on abortions or who have had them they are wrong for it, but I give my opinion of asked. Blanket statements like yours are unhelpful. I can say that I would never have an abortion because I know how strong my feelings are. I do not consider it a viable option for me.

Everyone has the right to an opinion, those who assume they are correct/force it on others are ego-centric/ignorant. Really I don't understand how you could possibly know if you could have one. @3012susanna I couldn't morally kill what I consider to be a baby with a soul and a purpose. where there's life there's hope... I'd rather have the baby adopted if I couldn't look after it. I realise that I'm fortunate - I'm happily married, we have good secure jobs and no reason to worry if I became pregnant. I'm a nurse and have sat with women who want abortions - I know the majority don't make the decision lightly. But the thought of killing a baby - it makes me so sad - I know how i feel.

@Alimagify fair enough i guess. I just couldn't morally bring a child into this world knowing it would have a life expectancy of only 1 or 2 years or it would be incapable of doing anything for itself due to severe disability, that makes me more sad than having to terminate the pregnancy.

@3012susanna The problem I have with things like that is one persons definition of severe is totally different to anothers. I understand that you're talking about children with short life expectencies etc - this leads me to a quality of life debate that I'm going to steer clear of at the mo - but my mother would have been aborted nowadays in all likelihood becasue she has spina bifida. some people conside that severe.
It's not that I can't understand your point - I just disagree with it.

@alaloka Interestingly it is true an unborn baby has no human rights - yet unborn babies are covered by the protection of children act... If a mother is abusing drugs for instance - the protection of childrens act comes into play (in the UK anyway). I only found that pout at mandatory training yesterday.
I find that slightly bizarre... Are they children or not? Do they deserve protection or not...

@kilox10001 if you don't want a baby to survive off of you don't get pregnant, but if you do it is your responsability to see it through unless you have a life threatening complication. If you don't want a child there is always adoption some people would die for the baby you are not ready for or cannot financially support(oh and the baby only gets a small portion of whatever you eat)

I don't think this debate should be looked at in a spiritual way, as there isn't any evidence of the existence of a soul. That is unless, of course, you are referring to a soul as a representation of a person's moral alignment (but that would not start at conception).
